I can't be bothered thinking of a good title...

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

I didn't go to the gym last night. I was wiped. I slept for a good 9 hours last night if that gives any indication of my sleepyness.

BUT I did go tonight! Spinning for a hour. While I was there I signed up and paid for Thursday nights class. I am motivated when there is $2 on the line! With those 2, and boxing tomorrow night and something on the weekend I think I am looking pretty good for the week.

Eating was good today. I did have some chocolate, but I tracked it and came in under 'budget' so thats OK. New lunch idea of corn thins with hummus. Yummy and filling :) We made fruit kebabs in class today so I got my fruit in :)

More good eating tomorrow, and boxing class. I am on a roll!

Sometimes you need sleep more than you need to workout. Recovery is important too!

The week ahead

Sunday, September 18, 2011

This week is my first week of my LAST placement. That is both exciting and terrifying. The good thing about placement (for my eating and exercise) is the routine. I have breakfast before I leave, have a morning tea break, a lunch break and then something to eat once school finishes. I bring healthy options and I have to eat them because I can't leave the school grounds. I also go to the gym before I go home. The gym is between school and home. I have to drive past it. That makes it easier to just go.

So, I plan on having a good few weeks of working out and eating. I want to look good for Summer, my birthday and my graduation.

Here is the workout plan:

M - Boxing (after the shrink)
T - Spinning
W - Boxing
T - Spinning
S - TBC, maybe a walk/run

I wish the gym had more variety. A pump class, perhaps. Maybe I will put it in the suggestion box! I am also gonna ask for a tour of the weights and maybe get a couple of routines I can do after classes (just 15 minutes or so).

Wish me luck!

READ AND SHARE THE JOY (Now with pics)

Thursday, September 15, 2011

My therapists name is Diane. She sounds nice. I will see her on Monday. Stay tuned.

Now, just need to pass these damn assignments...

Oh, and I did some retail therapy. I got a diamond snowflake pendant that I have been drooling over for about a year

and a dress that I look really hot in. Seriously. My best friend called me hot. And we are very honest with each other.

Changing Doctors

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

I have been thinking about changing doctors for a little while now. I really feel like my doctor isn't listening to me and that is not a good way to feel about the person who is treating your health.

Today I confronted my doctor about not listening to me the last time I was in. He said he was sorry but then went and did the same thing today!

I have been feeling depressed lately. I asked for a recommendation of someone to talk to about it so I could try and work through these feelings. He tried to put me on anti-depressants. I don't want to go on them, and I explained my reasons to him (I don't want to medicate the problem away, because that is not a solution and not how I want to live my life) and he still kept pushing them on me! No means no! I don't in any way judge people who use medication to help with depression (my mum is on anti-depressants) but I don't think they are for me. I would rather face the issues and find the root of the problem than just medicate it away.

So I am going to change my doctor. How do you even do that? I have been with this doctor since I was 8 and, apart from after hours doctors, I don't know the doctors in my area. Argh.

Hey. You are a student, you pay student union fees and those fees pay for free medical care and counselling at student health. Might as well use it while you can!

Sorry you're having to change doctors. Can't say I blame you, that's for sure! You could ask friends who their doctor is and would they recommend this doctor to others.

    Hi there
You are absolutely right to change doctors if you feel your current doctor is not hearing you. I would suggest you look for a younger doctor - they tend to be more open to treatments like cognitive behavioural therapy and other "talking therapies" than some of the older doctors.
You are right too that anti-depressants are very helpful for a lot of people but if you don't take them then they won't do anything!
Best of luck,

Have a look in the phone book for Medical Centres around you. One way you can do it is to go to Wises Maps and put in your address - work or home. There is a section at the top call "Amenities" - just click on that and it will show the various medical centres around. They will come up as a little red cross on the map. Just click on them and they will tell you the name of the medical centre. You can ask people around what Doctors they use and what they think of them, too.

I recently changed my Dr, but within the same practice. 3 of the nurses and I were talking and I suggested that they bring my records up and have a look at the Dr's notes. I got them to go through it over the previous 3 visits. I didn't tell them WHAT they were looking for, (I had read my records earlier because something didn't gel right and I had a gut instinct) but suddenly one spotted it and commented that the Dr was rather mean and the comment totally uncalled for. They THEN suggested a Dr within the practice who actually LISTENS and is a real sweetie. They also said he is not about rushing people out the door as soon as they go in. I have since been to this Dr and he will be a keeper :-)

Good luck.

I realize we don't live in the same country, but here in the US, every possible type of physician, from general practitioner to specialist will push antidepressants given the opportunity - for EVERYthing. I have been offered SSRIs by everyone from a therapist to a DENTIST -- I kid you not. In the states, we medicate and medicate and medicate and medicate some more, because god forbid anyone should be anything but happy...god forbid anyone should feel a variety of emotions, or, even worse, become self-aware, and learn about themselves, their choices and behavior through introspection and psychological work. I've had to fight kicking and screaming to NOT be on an antidepressant -- I was worried for a while that no doctor would respect my wishes to not take Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Effexor... I hate how hard it is to get that choice taken seriously, and it's ONLY my choice -- I'm not commenting on or judging ANYone else's -- but man.

Sorry. Just empathizing, over here.

Today, I spun

Monday, September 12, 2011

Spun? Spinned? Whatever, I did it.

The class was rather...blah. No one had energy and it was contagious. I got through it, but it was a looooooong hour. But my workout for the day is done, which is 2 days in a row. Go me. I even (briefly) ventured over to the arm strength machines for a little 'play'. But the arm machines aren't all in the same place, which I think is silly, and I could only find one. I'll have to book a time with one of the trainers there (free, thanks YMCA!) and get a tour of the machines.

I have a busy day planned. I have a bit of assignmenting (blah), then a haircut (yay!) then the doctors (boo). I got a call late last night from the doctor I saw at the after hours doctor last week (A story I didn't blog about. Long story short, my lips were itching and stinging like crazy and I was having to ice them constantly). He said my tests came back and I have...Oral thrush (ewwwwwwwwwwwww) and a STAPH INFECTION (more ewwwwwwww). So I am off to my GP to get it sorted. While I am there I am going to have a quiet word about how uncomfortable he made me feel when I was there last, and how I am thinking seriously about changing doctors. He owns the practice so I can't go to a supervisor, and I think he needs to know.

So, thats my day :)

No wonder you have been so tired, staph really takes it out of you. Poor smelly, I hope you got better! (reading this weeks later, it's like a serial!)

Good luck with the Dr's appointment. Maybe the Dr was having a bad day when you were there last? Oral Thrush is particularly common - especially if using some medications. I have had it myself. It is very easily treated, but I would suggest that you keep your cups/utensils separate or soak in a little very hot water and bleach for a while. Kudos to you for making that spinning class AND lasting the hour!
