Gone Fishin

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Picture blog will resume tomorrow. For today, c-c-c-check out what I did!

It involved getting up at 4.45. AM. They do a 4.45 in the morning now too. I was shocked.

I went fishing! And had a blast. But I am super tired so I will just show you what I did instead of telling you.

My catches. I had to throw them both back, they were too small!

I was COMPLETELY clueless about fishing. Everytime I got a nibble, a bite or needed my hook baited I would turn to the man next to me (who I called Nice Mr Fisherman, but apparently he prefered to be called by his real name, go figure) and say "What do I do?!?!?!?!". Luckily this man and many others (and some ladies too) were happy to help me out. I'm not above fluttering my eyelashes to get some help and to avoid touching the bait.

I also drank sparkling wine from a bottle, because a can would have been tacky

I was a good girl, just the one drink!

I love this lady!

And then we headed back to shore.

A great day was had by all :) Now if you'll excuse me I have a hot date with my pillow.

Looks fun [I've never been fishing]...except for handling the icky bait...which you so gracefully avoided! LOL

And the scenery...beeyooteefull!!

Um, I am kind of confused over here. So, let me get this straight: You woke up when it was STILL DARK OUTSIDE (I'm guessing), in order to sit in a boat (which I do understand -- I have sat in boats, and it was a lovely experience, but I did so at normal hours of the day and night, after getting an ample amount of sleep) and catch fish, which you then discarded, so that when you returned home, you did not have food, or treats, or money, or payment, or fame, or extra college credits, or a trophy or other prize of any kind to show for the experience. Not even a t-shirt? Did you at least get a t-shirt?

Where I live, in Minnesota, where we are covered in ice for about 2/3 of the year, people do exactly what you just did, except instead of sitting in a boat on water, they sit on a wee stool on the FROZEN lakes/rivers and dangle their fishing pole through a hole (not a euphemism, sadly). For hours. And often return home with nothing. This seems even MORE unpleasant, and also leaves me asking "why?".

I love them both :D

Picture blog - Day 8

Friday, March 18, 2011

Day 8 is a picture that makes me laugh. OK!

This is my ex flatmates cat wrapped in a happy birthday sign. The cat didn't mind, I swear. This picture still makes me giggle. My friend did it as a joke and the cat walked around quite happily for about half an hour.

Eating was so so today. Not great, not as bad as I wanted it to be. Craved some bad food, had a bit of chocolate, I'll call it a draw. Not a win, not a loss.

And...I'm sleepy! The cat and I are gonna head to bed!

Bonus blog

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Some my call 2 blogs in 1 day attention seeking or "uncalled for". I call them bonus blogs!

So today was day 3 of doing OK. Not fab, definatly some room for improvement, but not bad either. I did have chocolate. But I have made my peace with it. I wanted some and it had been 3 days. As long as it isn't everyday.

Breakfast was a fruit and veggie smoothie. A little light on the spinach due to a heavy handed frozen fruit pour, but lesson learned, spinach first next time. Snacks were a special K bar and an apple with cinnamon. Lunch was 1/2 a packet of microwave rice with some smoked chicken. And dinner. Let me tell you about dinner.

I ate brussell sprouts. AND I LIKED THEM!!!! Add a veggie to the list people. My secret? Roasting! I chucked them in with the poatoes, gave them all a toss in some sesame oil and S+P and roasted for 45 minutes. And I dipped them in BBQ sauce. They were delish. Served with a dry fried lamb chop.

So that was my day. I shall track, I shall see and I shall hope that overnight chocolate becomes discusting to me...OK maybe not. Maybe I shall hope for more will power?

I plan on starting to go on short walks next week. I don't want to overload myself because in the past I have done that and things have gone pear shaped. I am also SWAMPED with uni and work, so spare time has been rare. AND I still need to take it slow with my knee. Sounds like excuses but I gotta do what will (hopefully) work for me!

Look at you liking a vegetable that a lot of folks do not like! I may have to try them roasted because I've had them steamed I think and didn't care for them at all. I figured I would like them because I love cabbage, and I thought they would have a similar taste.

Well, well, well! I was always told not to roast brussels sprouts because it makes them taste bitter. Guess I'll have to roast some now to find out for myself. I love sprouts and eat them at least once a week. I see roasties in my near future.... *grin*

Walking is great exercise, so don't think for a second that it's not. How about you try going for a walk everytime you want chocolate?

P.S. (sorry for not using spell check for typos lol) What temp do you roast on? We do 500 degrees but I've seen some people do 400.

3 days without chocolate counts as will power already, doesnt it? lol I've hoenstly never had brussel sprouts but I have learned that roasting makes EVERYthing taste awesome! It's the only way i can eat asparagus! We use Olive Oil and Kosher salt :) my fave roasted veg is Broccoli! and of course potatoes, pearl onions, bell peppers and well.... everything lol. I saw a recipe for roasted asparagus that actually added a little bit of basalmic vinegar at the end. I haven't tried it yet but I will :)

Good thinking on not overwhelming yourself, it's not good to burn out. They're not excuses as long as you're working with what you've got, NOT beating yourself up when you don't, and just keep on truckin!

Picture blog - Day 7

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

YAY I've made it a week. And my mother says I can't stick with anything longer than a day!

Day 7 is a picture of your most treasured item

2 pictures today to make up for the lack of picture yesterday! Item is probably the wrong word, but my cats are the two 'items' that I treasure the most. If I'm being honest, Pixie (second picture) is my favourite. Thats the great thing about furbabies, they don't care if you have favourites.

Eating has been better the last 2 days. Not great, not terrible either. About 300 calories over each day so I will try and cut a few calories here and there.

I had a comment the other day from Puff (HI PUFF!!!!!!!!) about the spinach in my smoothies. You can't taste it, at all. I promise. It just tastes like a fruit smoothie. I was a non believer before I tried it for myself but seriously its now my favourite way to sneak in a serving or 2 of veegies WITH BREAKFAST. Depending on how I make the smoothie I get 3-5 servings of fruit and veggies with my breakfast. And the fruit isn't juiced so I believe all the fruit still counts as a serving, plus you get all the fibre and other good stuff. That means that after breakfast the rest of my fruit and veggie intake is bonus. Score!

In summary, put spinach in your smoothies.

OMG, I'm mentioned in a blog! That is totally my 15 minutes of fame, I just know it. :D

I went grocery shopping two days ago and TOTALLY FORGOT to get spinach and fruit to try out the BubbleJ Smoothie Magic Formula. I actually said out loud, as I was being rung up by the cashier, "DAMMIT I FORGOT SMOOTHIE INGREDIENTS". Whatever, everyone knows me as the crazy lady who talks to herself in public at this point...no need to hide it. Anyway, I am going to get stuff next time (in a few days?) and experiment, for sure! Thanks!
