Day One is a picture of myself and 10 facts about me

Just for fun, a baby picture! I am the big one! In this picture I am nearly 2 (21 months old) and my sister is 1 month old. And technically its a picture of me and someone else, but...my blog, my rules!!!

Fun facts

1. I get REALLY freaked out if I don't know the time
2. I love crime shows
3. Buying stationary makes me oddly happy
4. I have way too many books and DVD's
5. I have a younger sister (see picture) but we no longer speak. It doesn't bother me, she was only cute when she couldn't talk
6. My favourite ice cream is mint cookie smash
7. I have an obsession with cityscapes at night. I find them calming
8. I love Japanese food
9. My cats are my children
10. I love my sparkpeople friends!

On a sad note, this morning I went out to my car and a girl called me over to her. She was in tears. She asked me if I knew the cat laying on the grass. She had run it over. My heart skipped a beat because it looked like mine, but when I looked closer I saw it had a white tummy, and my cat doesn't. My landlords cat does though. This girl was hysterical, she was so upset with what had happened. I offered to break the news to my landlord if she couldn't face it, which she took me up on. I grabbed her details incase the landlords wanted them, gave her a hug and told her it was OK, it was an accident. My landlord took it well, but their kids will take it hard. Poor kitty, she was sooooo sweet. After I told my landlord what had happened I ran inside to cuddle my kitties. It could have easily been one of them, and I was so grateful that I still had them.

So on that note, cuddle your kitties, puppies, kids, parters and friends. Go on, I'll be cudding mine!

Cute pic, and you really made me laugh with your facts. :-)

Shame about the kitty, poor thing, and that poor girl, she must have felt dreadful!

We had a similar thing happen with one of our cats, except we thought it really was our cat, and we buried him, and everything, went indoors, sat there quietly crying and staring out of the window, only to see our cat leap into the garden from next door. Turned out we buried a stray!

I'm way too excited about this gym thing

Thursday, March 10, 2011

Seriously. I'm pouring over the class timetable and hi lighting the ones that fit into my timetable. With my yellow hi lighter. That smells like lemons. Fruit scented timetables rock my world.

So far I'm wanting to try a bit of everything:

Box and burn
Muscle Max
Core Power

I wanna do them all. Please? Someone give me endless time and energy! Me thinks I will have to pick 2-3 a week and either go to what I like best or rotate them.

OR I may hate all the instructors and end up doing my own thing in the gym. Who knows. I'll find out soon enough, and you, my wonderful friends, will be along for the ride. Is it moving time yet!?

I'm REALLY hoping I can find someplace to use the sentence "Fruit scented timetables rock my world", (giving you full credit, of course), because it is too good to waste on just one audience-limited blog! emoticon

I am guessing the additional new workouts will also give you energy when sitting down for homework and studying. Enjoy! They all sound fun, I've always wanted to try spinning.

I'm joining a gym!

Wednesday, March 09, 2011

Thanks so much for all of your study snack suggestions. I'm going to write them all down so I have snack ideas handy :) Oh and do the shopping and actually get food in the house. None of you suggested gravy, stale cereal and gum, right?

A fantastic perk of moving in with my parents is the increase in disposable income. With that income I am joining the gym! YAY!!!

This gym (the one my parents go to) is reasonably priced at $15 a week, is just 5 minutes down the road and has lots of classes that fit my timetable. I LOVE group fitness but when I worked at night the classes were always on when I was sleeping or working (morning and evenings). Now I work more human hours I will be able to make it to a couple of classes a week and will have full gym access. YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY. I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it.

I will also be closer to the pools that offer water walking, which I love, so good news all around!

So my fitness will have a jumpstart in 3 weeks. I will be coming up with a new set of goals and will try and use the gym as much as possible. Bikini by summer (8 months)? Hell freaking yes.

I'm wanting to develop fitness related goals instead of weight goals. Sure I would love to loose weight and I hope I do, but I like fitness related goals better because sometimes the scale lies and doesn't tell the full story!

Watch this space!

Study snacking

Monday, March 07, 2011

I am feeling better today. It must have been food poisoning. I feel 95% better today and I even managed to eat 3 meals! YAY!!!!!

I also managed to do some study. Now, when I study I snack. The mouth moving makes the brain work, I swear. Today I did unhealthy snacking. I don't want to get into the unhealthy snacking habit. So, readers, I would like to invite you to comment your little hearts out about what I should eat instead of chocolate when I study. Something one handed that takes little work is best and something that I can eat mindlessly with not a lot of calories. Please and thank you.

Today would have been an AWESOME day for a run, but alas I was still feeling weak so I refrained. I have uni tomorrow which means walking a couple of Ks from my car to campus, so that will hopefully help burn off the chocolate calories.

Anyways, its late and bed is calling my name. Night!!!

Spoonfuls of peanutbutter (you can eat only a little bit of this and feel very satisfied...AND, if you feel you need that chocolate taste, you can drop a couple chocolate chips into the jar (or onto the spoon) and you basically have a Reese's Peanutbutter Cup, except healthier!)

Wasabe peas!!!

A bag of trail mix or mixed nuts.

Ooh, or dried fruit like apricots, cranberries, raisins, cherries, prunes.

Damn, now I want to snack on all of these things. emoticon

I try and keep a lot of fruit in the house, in fact I am going to have an orange after I finish typing this.

I'm glad you're feeling better today!

One handed snacky thingies that one can eat a lot of without packing on the calories:

baby carrots
grapes or other berries
apple slices
grape tomatoes

I find that apples with peanutbutter help! Good luck. I spent 3 years writing my dissertation with snacks, and am now paying for it by needing to loose extra weight. Finding healthy snacks now is a great idea. I also found coffee helped.

I have a giant pitcher of water at my desk. (or a cup of coffee) Seems to me that the hand moving to the mouth is what does it for me, so I'm good with beverages.

That said, here's my favorite snack: 2 wasa crackers spread with 2 tbsp of hummus (the spicier the better), then topped with finely chopped bell pepper and red onion and parsley if you have it.

2nd favorite snack: cottage cheese with wheat germ on top.

Frozen grapes! They take longer to eat each one and they are delicious and sweet, like a little slushie!

How do you feel about popcorn? I found that when I am watching TV and I need a snack that it does the trick. I get the 94% fat free microwave popcorn, and sprinkle it with a little seasoning, my flavor of the moment is Chili Lime. The whole bag is about 100 calories, according to Spark's nutrition guide.

I'm siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick

Sunday, March 06, 2011

The point of this blog is for me to whine. A lot. I'm good with that.

So, I'm sick. I woke up at 3am and raced to the bathroom. Use your imagination (or don't). I woke up at 8 to get ready for work and felt like death so I called work and told them I wouldn't be in and slept until 12.

Since then I have been in bed all day. And I feel icky.

At first I thought it was food poisoning because I started throwing up 6 hours after eating, I did have salmon that was left out too long and I had no other symptoms. So I called my boss (catering company) and said that I ate some of their food last night during my break and now I was sick and I think it could be food poisoning. Now, however, I have a headache, a sore throat and generally feel crap. Oh well, if it was food poisoning they would want to know. Of maybe it is and getting sick at the same time is just bad luck.

Who knows. I know that all I have eaten today is some noodles and ice blocks. Anything else makes me wanna puke. Even sipping water is dangerous. I can barely walk to the bathroom (standing makes me feel worse) and forget about uni work!

I'm gonna crawl under my covers now.

Take good care of yourself. Eat lots of ice-blocks to keep your hydration up! Having some lemonade (NOT diet-type) can also be very helpful at the moment.

Big Hugs,
