A swim and a nana nap

Thursday, January 27, 2011

Hey all. Again, busy busy busy!

I got some exercise in today, a 30 minute swim in the sea. The water was blue, the sky was blue, the hills were alive with the sound of music. I live in a beautiful place and I love it! I managed to have a good swim. So good that I got home and ended up falling asleep on the couch! After about 40 minutes Russell woke me up and relocated me to our bed where I slept for another 2 hours. It was awesome. I love naps. Days off are days for naps!

Russell has decided he wants to loose some weight with me. It will be good to have a buddy in real life to loose some weight with! Unless one of my fab spark buddies wants to move to NZ... Just saying. He wants to loose about 6kg and I still want to loose 20kg. Back where I started, again. Gotta get my big butt to the pools and try out the local gym. Not being able to run has really put a spanner in the works. It is easier to put some shoes on and walk out the door than to drive to the pools/gym and pay to get in. Ah well, I'll ajust.

How is everyone else?

    I love naps, too!

Sounds like a good thing to have Russell on board with losing weight. You can help keep each other in line. :)

Update on the ol' knee

Wednesday, January 19, 2011

I got 1 and a half days off this week. Yesterday I zoomed out of work at 1pm. Ya know those cartoons where the character speeds away and then it cuts to a shot of their hat spinning on the floor? It was an exit like that. I then went home and out to lunch. I then spent the rest of the afternoon laying on the couch reading a good book, then went and got myself a massage. Well deserved, I though!

Today I didn't do much either. I'm being honest with you. I did, however, go to the physio.

It was a locum because my usual guy is on holiday, but it was good to get a second opinion. She confirmed my diagnosis of a pulled tendon and torn miniscus. I was poked and proded, massaged and stretched. And now I hurt. A lot. All I can really do is ice and rest it, as well as biking and swimming.

Thats all for now. I'm sleepy.

Hey Jess...I ve been away a bit so I am behind in all your news...So sorry to hear about your knee. You are doing the right things, letting those physio people do their poking and prodding..At least you know what you've got to work with..Cheers to you for trying to find what activity you can do..Don't fuss trying to do anything but your day to day stuff ( which, phewww is tons!!)..Better that you rest it, ice it ( and save some ice for a drink or two :-)...and get it better. Sending healing wishes your way ..Take care my friend

Sounds like it is a good idea to take it easy while you are sore - look after yourself!

Take care of the ol' knee, Bubble. How long does the physio think it will take to fully recover?

I'll live

My hurty knee and I went to the physio this morning. At 7am. Thats way too early to be forming sentences.

I told him where it hurt. Here is a handy diagram. Hurty bits are in red.

After jumping and squating and lunging and duck walking (I'm sure that last one was just for his entertainment) he told me that I actually have more than one issue. I told him that wasn't unusual for me.

I have hurt the tendon at the front of my knee (refer to picture). I have also torn some of the cartilidge (I can't spell) at the side of my knee. Again, see the picture. These problems can be fixed with physio, exercises and a brace. So, yay, kinda.

I have been cleared to bike and swim. Running is a big no no. Walking is passable, but only if I need to because it won't help matters. Joy.

Since I work on my feet I just have to soldier on. I have to work, I don't have a choice. Can't live on fresh air and sunshine! Work is being good about it and letting me sit down as often as I need to and making sure I'm not doing any squatting or bending. I should probably be off it for a few days...But whatcha gonna do?

So, good news is that its fixable. Bad news is that it hurts and it will be a long (and expensive) process to fix.

I got home from work and ate ice cream. I'm OK with that.

Oh man -- considering how dependent I am on walking and all other forms of ambulation, I would be UP A CREEK if I got that diagnosis! So, I send lots of good wishes and happy happy knee energy. Take care of yourself! emoticon

How many glasses of wine does it take to relax a Bubble?

Thursday, January 13, 2011

The answer, my friends, is 3.

So I headed on down to my Mama's place after work tonight. My dad is away and I thought she might like some company. She knows how hard I work so she had a bottle of Pinot Gris chilling and dinner ready. After dinner she gave me a heavenly foot massage and painted my toenails. I never wanna leave, I wanna stay home forever.

Thanks to everyone for your kind comments about my cancelled holiday. You are all right, it is better to be home where I am safe. I may pop up north for a night or 2 (and take some pictures!) instead, but what is certain is that I am having that week off work. No matter what. Full Stop.

My next day off is... I don't know when. I have picked up some casual waitressing work, so I am doing that the next 2 weekends, as well as working my usual job. Girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. That money will be M.I.N.E. Anyways, the event this weekend is a wedding and I am on the bridal table. Easy peasy, could do it with my eyes shut. 6 years (on and off) of waitressing...Its a good skill to have! I think I'll save up and get myself something nice :)

Ummmm...what else? Not much, really. Working heaps, as you all know. Oh, and I am going to buy some goggles. When the pool reopens next week I'm in like sin. I'm going to try and go a couple of afternoons after work. Knee is really sore, so swimming is the only thing that doesn't hurt. I'll get clearance from the physio, of course. And I'll update you all tomorrow night about what he said. My appointment is at sparrows fart tomorrow morning, before work, so I will give you an update when I get home.

Right, that was long and rambly....Goodnight, my friends!

Australia is flooded, holiday cancelled

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

So there is currently major flooding in and around Brisbane, where I was going for my holiday. 10 people are dead and nearly 100 are missing. The friend who I was going to stay with is waiting to see if she will be evacuated. In short, it is a mess over there, and my heart goes out to everyone who is caught in it. Hopefully everything will be stored to normal soon.

In light of the recent flooding I have been advised to cancel my holiday. I am bummed, but there is nothing I can do about it. I'm happy to stay here and be safe.

In other news

Eating has been OK. Exercise has been on hold due to a knee injury. I hurt it running a few weeks ago. I'm seeing a physio on Friday morning who will hopefully be able to sort it out. Its starting to effect my work.

Thats all she wrote

Good thoughts for all in Brisbane. I can't imagine...
I'm sorry you had to cancel your holiday and that you knee is being fickle. I feel for you because I'm struggling right now due to a knee issue that keeps me from doing half of what I want (and need) to do. Take good care and listen to the physio!

xoxo

Oh dear, I hadn't realised you were heading for Brisbane. I do hope that your friend remains safe. It is hard to comprehend the sheer scale of the destruction in Australia, and I am praying for everyone caught up in the disaster.

It is such a shame that you needed to cancel your trip to Brisbane as I know you were so looking forward to it. The devastation is extensive, so even if a plane would have been able to land iyou may not have got anywhere else, judging by the ongoing TV broadcasts today. I sure hope your friend is okay, as so many have had to be evacuated - and that you get another opportunity to visit your friend some time.

Fingers crossed for you that your physio is able to do something to help your knee injury.

I caught all that on the new last night..Awful. My thoughts go out to all over there!
You are wise to cancel your trip. Yes, disappointing for sure, but safety has to come first right?
Sorry to hear about your knee. Hope its something that icing, rest, stretches will take care of..Take it from someone who's been there..Do whatever exercises the physio guys says..and REST it..i.e Dont fret about exercise..Its better to get it back 100% than damage it more..
I sure hope you get some relief soon. It's stressful to have it affect your daily life...
I''ll be thinking about you!!
