Maths, BBF's gig and a house!

Righto. This will be a very disjointed and badly written post. I have been essay writing for 7 hours today and the words don't come out good.

Maths assignment sucks. Seriously. I hate it. I have to make up lessons for imaginary kids and then justify my choices. And I really don't have great justifications. I'm planning a class warm up of 21 because kids love it. Justified? Hopefully.

I went to my BBF's gig today and then we went to dinner. The gig was more of a practice session infront of people, but it was good and I'm excited for the actual gig on Friday. After fireworks. Her band plays covers and they are pretty good, but I have zero musical talent. Dinner was tapas. We love tapas. We get to have a little bit of lots of things :)

I went out for dinner last night too, to celebrate my new job. I may have had a cocktail. And dessert. Yeah, this whole healthy lifestyle thing ain't quiet happening right now. Maybe next week will be better :)

We may have found a house! Well, a flat. It is a downstairs flat and there is another flat above. It is below our budget and 2 bedrooms and in the suburb we wanna live it. And because it is so affordable we wouldn't have to get a flatmate! Score. I have emailed and hopefully I will hear back Tuesday and we can view it and move in! I haven't even seen it and I want it. I hope it is good. And that they allow cats. It didn't say no cats....

See title.



I am so cool right now. All employed. At a job I think I'm really, really gonna like.

So I went for a third interview. I think the manager was impressed that i dragged my ass up to the shop on a Saturday afternoon. Gotta go above and beyond, people!

I had all the right answers and impressed the interviwer so much that he offered me the job right there and then when he had said he would probably get back to me next week when we first sat down.

The pay is good, the bonuses are great and the staff discount is incredible!

This is not my recipe. But I made it and calculated the calories so I will share it anyways!

Hokey Pokey. HoneyComb. Sponge Candy. Delicious. Since I am a kiwi we shall call it Hokey Pokey, coz that is what makes me happy :)

If you are unsure what I am talking about (it goes by other names) check here

Yes my friends. Hokey Pokey. It is delicious, so easy and quick to make AND considering it is a big lump of melted sugar the calories aren't bad.

The whole lump has 344 calories.





And there is no way you will wanna eat the whole thing. It isn't healthy but if you are needing a sweet hit you could make this, have a bit and not feel bad!

So, my friends, follow these directions and you will have hokey pokey in no time

*WARNING! WARNING! Use you common sense people. You will be melting sugar. DO NOT do this with young children/ pets in the room. However older children may enjoy watching you make this as there is a cool chemical reaction at the end. Use your noggin, don't take risks with boiling sugar!*

You will need:
5Tbsp White Sugar
2Tbsp Golden Syrup
1tsp Baking soda

Saucepan
Wooden spoon
Pan - Line with baking paper and have it ready when you start. Trust me.


1. In a saucepan over a medium heat combine 5T of sugar and 2T of golden syrup.

2. Stir sugar and syrup constantly until sugar dissolves.

3. Once dissolved crank up the heat and boil the mixture.

4. Once it starts to boil turn the heat down again and let the mixture simmer for around 5 minutes, stirring.

* The mixture will bubble up and start to increase in size. This is normal and wanted*

5. After 5 minutes of simmering remove from the heat.

6. Add in 1t of baking soda and stir QUICKLY!!! The mixture will lighten in colour and foam.

7. Quickly pour the mixture into a prepared pan.

8. Leave to set. When it is cool it is ready! Break into pieces and store in an airtight container.

The pieces can be dipped in chocolate if desired.

This would make an awesome homemade christmas gift! Cheap and very quick to make!

To clean to pan simply soak in warm water for a minute. The mixture stuck to the inside of the pan and to the wooden spoon will just dissolve away!

There ya go, an old favourite and sparkable in moderation.

I remember making this in 3rd form and it went so horribly wrong. I don't know what we did but it ended up like a soft caramel. Who knows? It worked tonight though!

Your last paragraph reminds me of my mom's attempt at making peanut brittle, which I think is also done by melting sugar (not sure). Anyway, my mom's peanut brittle would NOT come out of the pan she poured it in after it had cooled. Hard.As.Granite. She decided after that that it was just easier to buy peanut brittle. Be your own hero

I saw the movie Whip It a few weeks ago. Loved it, but that is besides the point. One quote really stood out for me. It was when the main character, Bliss, is at the rollar derby. She approaches a team and tells them that they are her new heros. The reply is "Put some skates on. Be your own hero".

WOW.

Ever since then, that line, be your own hero, has stuck with me.

I used to read healthy living blogs because I admired these women. I thought they were awesome and strong. They were my heros. But I realised that reading these blogs was fine, but having these heros wasn't. So I put on my own running shoes with a mission to be my own hero. And it has worked! I'm not saying that I don't admire these women. I do. I still read their blogs everyday. But now I read the blogs for inspiration and tips on how I could do things differently. I am now my own hero. I run. I eat (mainly) healthy. I have my own blog and maybe one day I will inspire someone like these women have inspired me.

For now I am content being my own hero.

I came to the conclusion some months ago that try as I might to find motivation elsewhere, it really truly has to come from within if I am going to be successful. Firstly, thank you to everyone who complimented my new hair cut. Support is nice with a drastic change. I keep talking to my boyfriend about it and telling him that now I have a ponytail 'nubbin' :) He is sick of me and is offering me to a good home!

I saw Eat Pray Love last night with my bestest buddy. It was a great movie. A little long, but it needed to be. A little slow to start but without the details at the start the movie would have had little impact. I kept leaning over and whispering to my friend "OK, we need to go to Rome, there are hot guys, we need to go to Bali, there are hot guys". Yes, I have a boyfriend. He knows. I would highly recommend this movie. It gives you a lot to think about but is still very enjoyable. And I think it has a good spark message. How, you ask? Well, listen and you will learn!

In Rome she adopts a positive attitude to food. She enjoys eating, enjoys moderation and knows that she is healthy with indulgences. Sure, she eats pizza and pasta. But she enjoys is. She doesn't feel guily. She is happy. I think this is an important message. Eat what you want in moderation and don't feel guilty about it!

In India and Bali she goes through a journey of acceptance. Accepting herself. Accepting that she can't control how others think and feel. Putting herself first and letting herself just experience life. I think learning to love and accept yourself is such an important message! Love youself and others will too!

Anyways, last week of uni assignments, so excuse my absence!

I am househunting and job hunting. I am calling the jewellers tomorrow to see what is happening with my application. I kinda need to know and I have found employers don't mind if you call and check because it shows that you want the job. One job I got because the guy just waiting until he got called. I got the job because I was the first one to call and ask about it!

Househunting is sucky because we have a budget and cats. Budget means small and bad location usually, so hopefully we will find something good! And a lot of places won't allow cats but will allow families with children. My cats are my children, and they are much cleaner than kids! Cross your fingers for us and our househunting!!

I read the book Eat, Pray, Love and had real issues with it. However, that does not mean I am going to not see the movie, I love Julia Roberts and I have found that a lot of movies made from books make a lot of changes, so hopefully it is better than the book was.
