I think I'm done losing...

I still have 2kg to go until my goal weight, but I think I'm going to stop here. I weigh 67kg, a number I am happy to say aloud. I look good and I feel great. My thighs still touch and I have a little pouch, but I think that's just how I'm built. I'm confident wearing short shorts and a tight top, or skinny jeans. I'm a size 10-12 (US 6-8) in pants and a 8-10/small in tops. I think I'm going to be happy at this weight. And if I'm not? I can always lose another few kilos later. I'll also keep up with the ST which will help to reshape my body a little.





Starting weight: 87.3kg
Current weight: 66.9kg
Starting BMI: 29.9
Current BMI: 22.9
Starting pants size: 16
Current pants size: 10 (sometimes 12 depending on the cut)
Starting top size: 14/L-XL
Current top size: 8-10/S
Waist measurement in June: 83cm
Waist measurement in Feb: 71cm
Hip measurement in June: 109cm
Hip measurement in Feb: 98cm

I have also reduced my ring size by an average of 5 sizes, my bra band size is 2 sizes smaller, and my feet are a size smaller.

Thanks for all the support while I lost 20 kilos! Here's to maintenance being an easy transition!

    emoticon You look fantastic! I think if you still do want your body to change, then yes... ST is the way to get that done! That is what I am working on... though I still want to lose a few more pounds. But, I know if I gained 5 more pounds and was more toned I wouldn't complain! Do what feels right - YOU know best!! Congrats on getting to maintenance!!

    You're looking good! Maintenance will be a different challenge for you, but I'm sure you will do well because you've put your mind to it! About "losing too fast" Our bodies are quirky marvels. You've flown halfway around the world...twice. Crossed time zones, slept not in your own bed, eaten different foods, and drank different water. Your fitness was different too...mostly walking, which as you found out, can be very beneficial in a weight loss programme! Now you're home again, and your body is still adjusting to all of that. Keep doing what it is that you're doing. Let your body get used to being home again!

Just so you know... it's SO not easy. People assume you are still trying to 'lose weight' because you still look like you are 'dieting' because you made a lifestyle change. I get a lot of, "omg, stop dieting, you aren't fat" and it gets annoying. It is REALLY hard to eat enough when you are only eating healthy and clean- so I treat myself frequently ;)

Losing too fast?

I never thought I'd have this problem - I think I am losing too fast. I weighed myself the day before I left on my trip and the day I got back, and there was a 700g difference. Since being back (6 days) I have lost another 1.4kg. That is 2.1kg in total, which is heaps considering I don't have much to lose. I'm sure when I weighed on my first day back I was probably holding some water weight from traveling and high sodium airplane food, but still. I'm eating plenty, I'm not exercising too much, there is no real reason why I would be losing weight this quickly...

So, I have no idea what to do besides keep an eye on it. If I'm still losing rapidly in a few weeks I'll head to the doctors for a quick check up. I only have 1.4kg until I get to my goal weight (and I will be stopping this time) so maybe once I enter maintenance it will sort itself out? No idea!

    Some of it could be to do with your cycle. Mid month, progesterone makes us retain fluid. Loose it just before or during yr period (aint it gr8 being a chick!). If you haven't been starving yrself or exercising excessively, don't worry about it. Actually, it's when the opposite happens is very discouraging. Enjoy fitting yr clothes better emoticon

    My first few months here is where I lost the most, the fastest. I dropped 12 lbs in about a month... it was a little scary! I think you may have just been retaining a lot more than you though. Also, since you were in SF, you probably burned more than you think... that's a very walking-friendly city, so you were probably standing/walking a lot!

    Its hard to say, but I know when I wasn't working out over the holidays I lost when I didn't expect to, but I'm pretty sure it was all muscle that I lost. Once I got back to the gym I realized I looked a lot more toned before the holidays. Maybe some of that is the case for you since you were here in the US and not working out like normal??

I'm sure it will even out and be okay - but yes, keep an eye on it and see the doctor if you feel like you need to!

    I've gone thru the rapid weight loss also. I don't think I'd worry too much unless you keep losing and your not making any lifestyle changes.

    I went through a time like that. My body finally adjusted to the healthy diet, and my weight balanced out. I also went from a size 12 to a size 2-4 with little problem. The bloating in my body decreased over the past year. For a while, I wondered if I'd just shrink away.
My body found a healthy place of balance. I feel sooo good!

    Something to add, I suppose, is that I don't get my period for medical reasons, so I don't have the cycle gain that most women have.

    Water weight is a definite possibility. I find that my weight loss is also tied to my cycle... I "lose" 2+ lbs on the week of my period usually, but some of that is due to water retention during the week before- pretty common experience. Give it another week. As long as you aren't ravenously hungry you should be okay until then.

Back to school

Yesterday I had the first day of my second year of teaching. I am much less stressed this year (so far), and am really enjoying my first few days getting to know my new class. My room looks like this





I have 27 students this year, but I probably have more coming as the classes get shuffled. We are grouped based on ability this year, and I am teaching the gifted and talented/independent learners, so if children are too bright for their current class they will get moved in with me. The more the merrier, but I am running out of room and am going to have to start stacking them like tupperware soon. I have 3 year levels in my class, which is interesting, and the some of the kids are younger than what I am used to teaching. However, it is an interesting challenge, and I shall survive!

I went to boxing yesterday and I was supposed to do my weights today, but am having a day off. My legs still hurt from Sundays weights, and it is a public holiday tomorrow (Waitangi Day), and there is no boxing so I'll do my weights tomorrow instead.

    Your classroom looks nice!! I can't imagine 27 students with more possibly! I have 24, and that's MORE than enough!! My other class has 21, and it's much more manageable, even with the disruptive kids. What ages are your students?

    Love your classroom!!!! It looks like you're ready! How awesome that you get the gifted and talented ALL day.. I too, teach gifted but it's K-12 and a pull out program!!! Enjoy your students and the impact you are going to make on them and them on you!!

    Have a great school year! Teaching the gifted can be great when the kids are motivated to learn. I teach special ed, and sometimes motivation can be a problem.

I'm grateful for the ability to make healthy choices. Today I'm eating steel-cut oats.

Introducing Luke

So about a month ago I started mentioning a man. A new man in my life, but I didn't want to say anything until things became official. Well, they are official now! So, sparkfriends, meet Luke.



OK, that is not his best photo (or mine) but it is the only one we have together. This was taken on new years and I got an random person to take it so we would have at least one photo together. This is a better one of him


I have no idea why all the photos on his facebook are black and white. I promise he is in colour!

So there is a little story behind this relationship. Luke was my first boyfriend when I was 14 (awww). But when I was 15 my family moved from Wellington where we were living and moved to Auckland. Also, Luke is 3.5 years older than me, which is not a big deal now but it was when I was 14. Anyways, we broke up, stayed on good terms and remained in contact and remained friends for the next 10 years. We both got on with our lives, as ya do. He got married, separated, had a kid, etc. I went to uni and was in a long term relationship with a real jerk. Fast forward to 2 months ago, and he calls me and asks if he can come stay with me for a few days over new years. Of course I was happy to have him visit, but knew there was a chance that he was coming to start a relationship with me, since we were both now single and had both admitted to still having a crush on each other. Well he visited and it was clear that we had feelings for each other, so when he kissed me the first morning he was here I was very happy. But I was just recently out of a very long and complicated relationship, so I asked Luke if he would mind taking things at a slower pace so I could have time to get my head around everything. He is such a sweetheart and said he understood and we could do everything on my terms as long as we got to be together eventually, and that he has been waiting 10 years so another few weeks wouldn't make a difference. AWWWW! So we have been talking and skyping while I was away, and we decided to make things official, which is why I can blog about him now.

It is a little complicated because he lives in Wellington. It is only an hours flight, so we can fly back and forth fairly easily. I'm going to spend every 2nd or 3rd weekend with him in Wellington, as well as long weekends and school holidays. He will come up to Auckland to see me occasionally, but because I live with my parents and he doesn't it is easier for me to go and stay with him.

So that's my mystery man! I am very very happy!

    I had just gotten out of a relationship with someone who was very wrong for me and needed a break from dating for a while. 3 weeks later I went on a date with someone I'd known for 3 yrs. That was 6 yrs. ago and we've been married for 2. You never know! I'm very happy for you!

My best friend in the whole wide world flew from London to LA to meet me for 4 days. How freaking awesome is she?!

We went to Disneyland





And California Adventure




We went to Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach





And stayed in a comically small hostel room together

The bed was only accessed from the end. To the right is a tiny toilet and to the left is a tiny shower. After our huge room in Anaheim we were a little cramped!

On our last morning we decided to do something hugely stereotypical, and have donuts and coffee for breakfast! Yum, but oh I felt sick after!


After that the photos stopped because Diane had to leave for the airport. I left 7 hours later, so I just went shopping!
