Rangitoto Island is a dormant volcano in the middle of the Hauraki Gulf. It is a 25 minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland, and my friend and I climbed it today! Then we missed the ferry, so we wandered around for 2 hours. I have tracked as 2 hours walking and 1 hour hiking, which gave me 800 calories. That seems reasonable!
OMG on the ferry!
Rangitoto from the ferry
Me with Rangi in the background
Bit of a view through the pohutukawa trees
Most of the island is just lava rock. Amazing the plants have adapted to survive here!
Red, volcanic dirt
View from the top (look better when not shrunk for spark!)
At the top!
Near where the ferry leave from
Random pretty photos
At the end I laid in the shade, waiting for the ferry to come. I am SO exhausted, but so glad I went. It was a lovely day, filled with so many moments that made me love my city a little more. I am very lucky to live where I do, it is a paradise!

After over a month of little to no movement my scale said this this morning
And I look like this

So a sweet kid was holding a door open for me. I got distracted talking to another student, they got bored waiting for me, and just let go of the door. It slammed on my toe, nearly taking my toenail with it
It hurt. I managed to not swear in front of the kids, and hobble down to the sickbay for an ice pack. It is bleeding and swollen, and I am not stuffing it into a sports shoe today, so boxing is off. I am wanting to be very active during the holiday, so I hope that with ice and elevation it will feel better soon!

Well, school ends on Tuesday. Where has the year gone?! My babies are all grown up; Most are moving to the senior school next year! I will have 2 in my class again, but the rest are off to bigger and better things
The last 2 days I am on baby sitting and crowd control. The kids will help me clean and organise the class, then some will go and help another teacher to clean and organise (she has to move rooms, I don't, and her kids are too young to help), and I will have her class for a movie. Movies and games will be a big part of the next 2 days. And then they leave, and I will probably be crying in my classroom for a while! Sad, but true. You get so, so attached to them!
I have big plans for the school break, as you all know. I will probably be posting some blogs that ask silly questions, so be prepared. Unless some kind soul who lives in/is familiar with my trip locations wants to offer to answer a sparkmail full of silly questions... Limited time offer, folks! Before I leave I have some Kiwi Summer activities planned! Climbing Rangitoto next week with my ex (we are seeing each other a lot. He is a better boyfriend now then he was when we were together, lol!), Action World with a friend this week, and Rainbows End and kayaking with my friend Luke who is visiting from Wellington at the end of the month! YAY!

It was my birthday on Friday. 24 years young. I dressed up like this
and headed out. First stop was my work xmas party. I spent an hour there chatting with workmates. Then I headed home, jumped into mum's car and headed to the restaurant to meet my girl friends.
It was a fun night filled with laughter, food, and a little too much wine (OK, I was a little, tiny bit... drunk). My birthday is the day for eating whatever I want. For dinner I ordered the carbonara. It was sinfully delicious, creamy and cheesy, and I enjoyed every bite. I actually ended up leaving 3/4 of it because it was so huge! I was going to eat whatever I wanted, but that didn't mean stuffing myself when I was full. In the end I am guessing I ate 500-600cal worth of it, which is actually not too bad. Dessert was a brownie with ice cream. It was gooood.
With birthdays come reflection. And I have decided to take charge of my life a bit more. There are heaps of things I want to do but never get around to because no one wants to do them with me. For example, I really want to climb Rangitoto Island. If no one wants to come with me then I can go by myself! And I will. I also want to go kayaking, and go back to Action World. If no one wants to come with me I will just go by myself. I'm spending a week alone in the states, so I should probably practice anyway!
