Successful weights workout

Friday, August 31, 2012

I think I'm on the mend!

Warmed up with 5 minutes on the treadmill. I managed to run for 4 of those minutes, which is a big thing considering my recent health. I didn't push it, kept it slow and short. Felt great to be moving!

On to the weights area. Added weight to my bench press, 1.25kg on either side, so 2.5kg total. I also decreased the counter weight for my assisted dips. Small steps! I need to add more weight to my military press and bicep curl next week, as well as my leg press and hack squat. I am going to kick this program so hard it won't know what hit it!

Got home and inhaled a bowl of cereal and yogurt!

Nice day out today. Great weather. Spring has sprung. The students were mental all day, all over the school. Mine couldn't even handle marking their homework! BAD day to be observed by my boss, but they managed to hold it together well while my boss was in there. A few things to work on, but other than that the observation was all pretty positive.

Now I am going to have a relaxing evening with an early night! This weekend I am meeting some friends for coffee, going clothes shopping, doing marking and getting a workout in!

August recap (plenty of pics, feeling proud this month!)

Thursday, August 30, 2012

It is the end of the month tomorrow (well for me it is) so here is my August recap!

emoticon Weight goal: Lose 1kg, taking me to 12kg lost and 75.3kg. As my goal weight comes closer I know that I am in for plateaus and for my weight loss to slow, but I'll stay positive and keep aiming for 1kg a month for as long as possible

emoticon I actually lost another 200g in July, so my starting weight for August was 76.1kg. 1kg lost would have taken me to 75.1. I weighed in at 74.5kg, which is 1.6kg lost this month (OMG! A RECORD!) and a total of 12.8kg lost. 1.5kg until a normal BMI! SO my weight loss seems to be speeding up instead of slowing down… Remind me of this moment if I don’t lose much next month to compensate!
Translation: Lost 3.5 pounds. Went from 167.7 to 164.2

emoticon Nutrition: Keep tracking as often as I can. Lets aim for 2 weekdays and 1 weekend day.

emoticon I didn’t track often, but I still lost weight.

emoticon Exercise: 2 days cardio, 3 days weights, minimum. More is fine, less isn't unless I am sick or tired. Lazy is not an excuse.

emoticon (kinda). I stuck with my 3 days of weights like it was my job. The cardio was more up in the air. I did 2 days most weeks, but some weeks a cardio day was a long walk, which doesn’t get my heart rate up like other things, like boxing, spinning or running. BUT I figured that as long as I was active it was all good. My recent illness (AGAIN) put things on hold a little, too.

My 8 month progress photos
Start and now (87.3kg and 74.5kg)

Start, 3 months, 8 months (87.5, 82.6 and 74.5)

This top no longer does me any favours. It is too billowy around the middle which makes me look thicker there (I think). BUT holy skinny legs, Batman!

And to finish, here is a cat

1kg of bloat

Thursday, August 30, 2012

I knew it would be there this morning. Water weight. Gotta hate it! BUT, because I weigh everyday I know my body and its patterns well. I know that I weighed 74.9kg (slightly up from where my ticker is) yesterday, so when I weighed 75.8kg this morning I was able to cringe, accept it and not cry. I know I didn't eat 7000 EXTRA calories yesterday. Maybe 700! The scale should go down in a day or 2, and maybe it'll lose count and accidentally take another 200g? 13kg even would be nice...

I had a lovely night out with my girlfriends last night. We had each ordered a chocolate dessert and shared. I ate more than I usually do, but less than I used to. My friends couldn't stop talking about my weight loss, which was nice. These girls are skinny, and I hated being the fat friend. They are also both tall (one is a basketball player) and super smart (law degree and medical science degree, respectively). Luckily for me I have a super smile and a winning sense of humour... emoticon

I had a good day at school, for the most part. My course yesterday was a wonderful refresher in teaching writing, something that I struggle with. I tried some of the techniques I learned and we did some great writing! Then it had a carry over effect on the rest of the day. Reading, maths and topic all went really well! The woman who ran the course is amazing. She works with a friend of mine and I am so jealous!

No gym today. Coughing a lot, and not much sleep because I got home late last night. Just a quiet night in with mum (who is also sick)!

A guy who is a bean counter and called his weight loss group bean counters told me something that proved out.

He said that if you weigh every day to take all 7 days in that week and add them together. Then he said to divide by 7. That way you have a better reflection of what you actually have lost or gained that week.

It is pretty accurate.

So smart to keep it in perspective. Many would have gone nuts about 1kg.

Lame excuses. Today is a 'once in a while' day.

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

I always say to new sparkers that 'once in a while' won't hurt as long as it is really once in a while. I really believe that some days there will be fast food and no exercise, and it all happens. So, today I had a once in a while day.

It started at breakfast when I poured my cereal, open my yogurt and discovered that the yogurt (purchased yesterday) was so runny it looked like milk. I could have had toast, but between that, and my fringe not behaving, and a short discussion about the state of my relationship with my boyfriend I sort of threw my hands up and decided I'd grab a bagel from McDonalds when I got my coffee. One of those mornings. Luckily I had a course today, so I got a sleep in, which was the bright spot in my morning!

Lunch was sushi, grabbed before I headed back to school. I had already prearranged it with myself, so I could go straight to my course without heading into work to put my lunch in the fridge. I did take fruit for my snacks, though.

Now I have a case of the Can't - be - f***eds, and mum has suggested Indian, so I'm gonna run with it.

Later I am meeting 2 girlfriends for dessert.

Luckily these days don't happen often. I am usually all prepared for a good breakfast, I take my healthy lunch to school, I cook a good dinner and I don't go out for dessert often at all. Maybe twice this year?

No exercise because I'm still on a cardio ban. Weights only until I am better, and I did weights yesterday.

You have to have once in a while. If you restrict to much, it could lead to an all-out rebellion. I hope your dessert was yummy!

These "once-in-a-while" days are what make up a life. LIFE is real; stuff happens. You're flexible enough to take it in stride, and then move on. It's a great and healthy attitude to have!

It's good that you're not stressing about it : ) Mu parents are up for a visit until Saturday so I'm going to have to try SO hard not to have four 'once in a while' days in a row.

My first weights injury

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

Now don't worry, I'm not dying. I DID, however, injure myself at the gym tonight. Slightly. I may be over reacting, since I'm not getting any sympathy around here. When I was unloading my 20kg (dust off the shoulders...) plates off the leg press machine to put them back where they live I caught a bit of skin on my hand between 2 of the 20kg plates. It actually really hurt. There was swearing at the time and now there is slight bruising. It is the most silly and pathetic injury in the whole wide world, but it hurt!

Anyway, moving on....

So I made it to the gym today. Some coughing, but I managed. I need to add weight to my bench press and my military press next time. I decreased the counter weight for my triceps dips today, and went to 40kg on the leg press. Moving on up!

Can I just say that I love my gym and the staff? They are awesome. The receptionist is so sweet. Well, they both are. We were chatting at the counter today, and when she was walking through the gym she kept popping over to see me. Not in a bothersome way, most probably because she was bored. She never interrupted me and I thought she was being sweet. Also, the advertisement for the new classes needs the Miss Bubble correcting pen taken to it, and when I pointed it out to my trainer he was really receptive about it. He was joking around with me about it being an occupational hazard, me finding spelling/grammar faults. I told him the revised copy had to be on my desk in the morning for marking!

emoticon ouchiees!! That must have smarted quite a bit! Hope you put ice on it right away...that helps with bruising. Must attend to replacing weights so it doesn't ever happen again!!

Sorry about the hurting, but I guess that won't be the last time! I LAUGHED when I read about "the Miss Bubble correcting pen" because I have a tendency to do that too - LOL! My favourite is WHEN I am in a take-away (which is hardly ever now) I often pick up, and comment on, spelling mistakes on professionally made signs - things like "Tomatoe" "Potatoe" "Chese" .... and the list goes on :-(
