My first weights injury

Now don't worry, I'm not dying. I DID, however, injure myself at the gym tonight. Slightly. I may be over reacting, since I'm not getting any sympathy around here. When I was unloading my 20kg (dust off the shoulders...) plates off the leg press machine to put them back where they live I caught a bit of skin on my hand between 2 of the 20kg plates. It actually really hurt. There was swearing at the time and now there is slight bruising. It is the most silly and pathetic injury in the whole wide world, but it hurt!

Anyway, moving on....

So I made it to the gym today. Some coughing, but I managed. I need to add weight to my bench press and my military press next time. I decreased the counter weight for my triceps dips today, and went to 40kg on the leg press. Moving on up!


Can I just say that I love my gym and the staff? They are awesome. The receptionist is so sweet. Well, they both are. We were chatting at the counter today, and when she was walking through the gym she kept popping over to see me. Not in a bothersome way, most probably because she was bored. She never interrupted me and I thought she was being sweet. Also, the advertisement for the new classes needs the Miss Bubble correcting pen taken to it, and when I pointed it out to my trainer he was really receptive about it. He was joking around with me about it being an occupational hazard, me finding spelling/grammar faults. I told him the revised copy had to be on my desk in the morning for marking!

    Sorry about your injury, but I'm glad you like your gym so much! And LOL, I too am one of THOSE people, the ones who can't stand spelling errors, improper punctuation, etc. Glad you're spreading awareness of the importance of standardized communication! :)

    emoticon ouchiees!! That must have smarted quite a bit! Hope you put ice on it right away...that helps with bruising. Must attend to replacing weights so it doesn't ever happen again!!

"Miss Bubble correcting pen" lol!! Every teacher has that in their bag of tricks!!

    Sorry about the hurting, but I guess that won't be the last time! I LAUGHED when I read about "the Miss Bubble correcting pen" because I have a tendency to do that too - LOL! My favourite is WHEN I am in a take-away (which is hardly ever now) I often pick up, and comment on, spelling mistakes on professionally made signs - things like "Tomatoe" "Potatoe" "Chese" .... and the list goes on :-(

Back to the gym today

Instead of my favourite Sunday routine of running to the gym, doing my weights and then walking home I opted to drive to the gym, do my weights and then drive back. Much better idea for today!

I felt fine doing my weights. A little coughing still, but since the gym is nearly empty on a Sunday I wasn't bothering anyone. AND The receptionist commented on my weight loss! That was nice. I am enjoying my new weights routine, since it gives me lots of variety.

Had a nice, healthy lunch when I got home. Chicken and salad pita pocket with 2 tangelos on the side. YUM!

And that is my day! I am planning on doing some more relaxing and then diving into some planning for next week. Sunday afternoon always comes too quickly on the weekend.

Friday was a right off

No blog yesterday? Well, there was nothing much to report. I had a good nights sleep. I discovered a good sleeping position that meant minimal coughing and nose leakage (sorry!)

Since on Thursday I was sent home at 3pm and told not to come back until Monday, I had arranged a reliever to look after my babies for the day. I watched bad tv for most of the morning and went to the doctor. Diagnosis of hay fever that turned into a sinus and chest infection. That explains why I didn't feel that bad this week; It was only hay fever until the infection kicked in. I am on broad, strong, antibiotics for 10 days and steroids for 10 days. The steroids aren't too strong, so I'm not expecting a gain, but I may not lose anymore until I am off them.

After the doctor I had a naughty lunch from the bakery. I wanted a cream donut and I was gonna have one. Then I slept for 4 hours. I woke up, relocated to mums bed (she gets more channels on her TV) and watched TV and dozed for another couple of hours. I was so sick I just wanted to sleep so I didn't have to deal with feeling so terrible. My plan was to sleep until I was better.

I was supposed to take my boyfriend our for his birthday dinner, but I was so sick he offered to pick up burgers. I opted for the grilled chicken tenders and chips as a slightly better option.

Even after all that napping I was still ready for bed at 9.30pm. I managed to stay awake until nearly 11, since there was something on that I really wanted to watch, but I was napping in the ads. I still slept all night, and didn't wake up until the boyfriends alarm went off around 8am.

So, that was my sick day.

Today I am feeling much better. I'm still snotty and coughing but not as much as I have been. It is the boyfriends birthday, so I picked up his birthday cupcake and surprised him at work. I picked up a mini cupcake for myself (they are 2 bites, 1 if you're really keen) and they gave me 1 extra for free, so I had a little treat today! We went out for lunch, visited his parents and then came home to watch some TV and have a quiet afternoon. He is off out with the boys tonight, and it sounds suitably boring and geeky, so I'm staying home. Quiet night with mum, which is just what I need.

Awww...I'm sorry you're really, really sick. Not a good way to start off the school year! Feel better soon!! You're doing the right thing by getting lots of rest. When we return back to work after summer break, the stressors multiply and we need to be more mindful of the amount of rest we need. Feel better!!

    "I picked up a mini cupcake for myself (they are 2 bites, 1 if you're really keen) " Now, IF you were my daughter you would have quite proudly said that you could fit it all in in one bite because you had a big mouth :-) (and she has - LOL! The dentist told me how you define it - get your hand, hold your fingers together so that they are flat, and tip them so that the hand is in the roof to floor position and see how many fingers you can get in our mouth! Daughter can manage 4 AND the thumb, I can only just manage TWO - LOL!

Get better and remember that common sense MUST prevail - nothing causing huffing and puffing until your infection has PROPERLY cleared!

    Sounds like a perfect sick day, with lots of rest and junky TV. rest, rest, rest...and even though I'm a vegetarian, have some home made chicken soup, it is really supposed to help! feel better, glad you are on the upswing.

    I'm not too concerned at the moment, but am hoping that by writing it in a blog it will serve as a reminder in 10 days time, when I am feeling great but not losing. I have already lost 600g MORE than my goal this month, and if I lost more I think I would fall off my scale in shock.

    Glad you found a good position for effective sleep without coughing! This is one of the hardest things when you're sick. You need sleep, and yet can't sleep because you're coughing...

As for weight loss or gain, just concentrate on getting back to healthy for now. The drugs will affect your system, nothing you can do about that.

Today I am sore and I'm coughing

emoticon We had a quiet day in my classroom. The kids are really good about working quietly when needed, understanding that most of the time I let them chatter as long as they are on task.

emoticon I am sore from my workout yesterday. Not a bad sore, just a reminding ache when I change positions. I can really feel it in my legs!

emoticon I'm sick of this cough. I have a fun cough syrup with codeine in it, and it has been helping, but only for about an hour, and then it come back with a vengeance.

emoticon I wish I were well. It is such a lovely afternoon and I would love to go for a nice long walk and just zone out. Ah well, maybe this weekend?

emoticon The scale has said 75.0kg the past 2 mornings. YAY! I like to see a new weight 2 days in a row to really celebrate it. I am right on track with my weight loss, with my actual weight and my goal line meeting in the same place. Like this

I keep waiting for my weight loss to slow or plateau. I know it should be happening soon. I am trying to mentally prepare for it the best I can!

    You wouldn't have a low grade asthma would you? I have noticed the last few days I have had an irritable cough and it more often happens with the sudden change in temp, apart from the seasonal thing. Often when that codeine-based cough med doesn't work the culprit is asthma.

    I continue with weights, since that doesn't use my lungs as much as cardio does. I only stop completely if I need time off work.

    Besides that nagging cough, sounds like your life is pretty good! Rest, rest rest up and hopefully, you'll feel better soon. I still exercise when I feel run down, just not as long or as hard, and it does help me recover faster, I think. Anyway, that's just me. Hope you feel better soon. Congrats on the weight loss
