My friend Jason and I met at Jamestown Yaght Basin Saturday, June 7, at 10:00. The forecast was calling for 100F. We brought along a good supply of water, sun screen, and everything else needed. We started out on the James River side of the island. The old brick church and archeology exhibit hall quickly came into view. We passed several tourists on the walkway and quickly reached the more remote area of the island. A Bald Eagle flew in the tree-line above us. About 1.5 hours later, we rounded the island to the other side. During the next hour, we saw 2 snakes swimming in the water, Ospreys, and other birds. Jason began to get heat exhaustion so we stopped in some shade and drank cold water. We were able to finish the trip safely and I look forward to paddling the island again in cooler weather.
