Needing some help...

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

I am falling behind in my workouts and motivation is failing as well. I have been working towards eating better for the last three months and I feel as though I haven't seen ANY results! :-[ I am feeling discouraged. I am working towards the Couch to 5K, but that is all I seem to have energy for lately.

I know I haven't been on here much to keep up with everyone and receive some encouragement back, but I am hoping to change that [although work has me pretty tied up all day everyday, darn tax season].

Hope all is well with all my Spark friends.

Think back to what it was that motivated you to make this change in the first place. Find a picture of yourself that you hate to look at and post it somewhere you can see it when you are feeling week. Try to keep your exercise clothes in your car so you can go right after work rather than going home first. You can do this!!!! Reach down in and find the strength.

Okay, good news and bad news...

Good news--any kind of workout gives really good benefits to the body. I have a 15 minute daily commitment and it has really paid off in strength and flexibility. If you are getting towards the 5 K, that is awesome! Serious pats on the back.

Bad news--if you have pounds you want to take off, then food is the key (I think I read that it is about an 85% food to 15% exercise split). I've found that using the nutrition tracker and trying to get the recommended daily calories in the recommended portions of fat, protein, and carbs (I also track sodium) has been the single biggest key to my success. The reports let me see trends--like, for example, I've been eating more carbs and less protein for a few weeks which has led to feeling hungrier. So now I'm doing my midmorning and midafternoon snack with high, lean protein.

Even when I go off track, waaaaay off track sometimes, I still enter everything I eat. Sometimes, just knowing that is what I am going to do will stop me from making an unhealthy choice. And sometimes it won't, but I least I'm conscious of what I am doing.

This isn't rocket science--it's calories in versus calories out. The tough part comes in the behaviour changes we need to make to get there. I challenged myself to totally follow the nutrition tracker for my first two weeks and it was a total pain and took giant amounts of will power. But I liked the results at the end of the two weeks and so I 'renrolled' for another week. Each week I commit to doing because I know I can get through a week, but I sure as heck can't get through the two years it will take me to lose 200 pounds...

There, my two cents worth.

Like I said, just the fact that you are keeping up with your exercise seems like a huge positive to me!

I hear ya!! The Couch to 5K is awesome! That's great you are keeping up with that! Remember ANY little thing you do in a day works toward your goal. Do whatever you can! Soon you'll be finding that you are doing more and more and WANT to do it. :)

Take care

This can be such a thankless task sometimes, working all out with nothing to show for it - but thats when you really need to push just that bit more or you end up on the slow road backwards.

Find some goal that is achievable for next week, short term goals are the ones to aim for whilst reaching for the long term ones. But you must give yourself a reward too.

My short term goals are several 5-10 min workouts during the day because my days are so tied up. Short burst of energy are better than nothing at all.

Keep going my dear, the body will catch up and give you a pleasant surprise, just don't give up!

hmmmph!

Friday, January 22, 2010

Well, yesterday was a fairly good day until I got about 30 minutes into my cardio and I started getting a migraine. I tried to put to 45 minutes, but I only lasted until 35 before it got to the point where my vision was blurry [usually when that starts I have about 15 minutes before my head starts to hurt, BAD]. So, I got home and decided to take some medicine and lay down around 330, but this time my head was pounding really hard and it took all I had to get to sleep [every noise and light made my head hurt even worse]. I woke up again around 5 I think it was and I felt even worse [the plan of looking at houses and going to Costco went out the door at this point], I took some more medicine and tried to fall back asleep, it was nearly impossible because I couldn't get my head to stop hurting for a second to just relax and fall back asleep. Around 630, I think, I finally got comfortable enough to get to sleep and I slept until about 830. Again, I woke up with a terrible head ache, but it wasn't the same feeling I had before [a knife in my eye hitting the back of my head feeling]. I was able to make it through two of my favorite shows [Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice] and then back to bed I went.

Today I am still suffering from a head ache, but I am hoping that as the day goes on I am able to get rid of it because tonight is birthday dinner 1 of 4 and game night with friends and I don't want to feel lousy for it.

Sorry for the venting, I am just so tired of getting head aches like this. emoticon

I have been drinking LOTS of water, I have actually gone on the longest streak of drinking 8+ glasses of water a day that I have ever been on. I have also gotten my eyes checked, but I do sit behind three computer monitors for 8 hours a day [I am a tax accountant, so more monitors the better], so that could be it also. Did you just go to like your primary doctor to figure out they were caused by hormones? I don't get them all that often, they are pretty random actually, but I know exactly when one is coming on and I make sure to get home, take some medicine, and crawl into bed to try to sleep it off.

I hope you feel better tonight. Make sure you are drinking enough water, and you should get your eyes checked too. If you read or study a lot, eye strain could be causing them but mine were caused by hormones. Now that I am on a 3 month cycle, I only get one migraine in 3 months. That I can live with! Good luck emoticon

A Better Day!

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Well, today seems like a better day than yesterday. Everything seemed to go wrong [although I got a nice 20 minute walk in at the gym and my women's volleyball league won our game].

But moving on from yesterday and looking onto today. I am here at work, with nothing really to do [I can't really complain because sooner than later tax returns will be coming in like crazy and I will have TONS to do]. After work I plan to get in some more cardio and light lifting, I decided that I am going to stay strong with the cardio and only do light lifting to tone my body rather gain muscle, at least until I start seeing results with my weight loss. After my work out I have a dinner with the head coach that I coach with and a recruit. He is taking us to Pizza Hut, which I am not too happy about because I have been doing so great with eating healthy, but I can always get a salad and water. After dinner it is my relaxing time, Tuesday nights I always have the house to myself, which I think I need to take some advantage of today, either go to bed early or curl up on the couch and watch a movie.

Keep up the good work everyone, sooner than later we will all eventually see the results we would like and all look great in our swim suits come summer!

Thank you all for the motivation to keep this up. I am so happy that I have found SP because I don't think I would have lasted this long on my diet and work out if it wasn't for all of you. Seeing everyone and their progress makes me want those results, which is going to take time, and time is what I am willing to give!!!!

Have a wonderful day everyone!!!

GOOD NEWS!!! The dinner was canceled and therefore I won't be tempted with pizza, because I looked online and didn't see any types of salads at Pizza Hut like I thought they had. :-D Now I just need to come up with a healthy dinner for myself tonight.

Yes, if you are going to be tempted by pizza tonight, make sure you budget it in your calories. And even if you do, stick with the water! We will all reach our goals soon...good luck!!

I'm glad today is going better. Isn't it frustrating when other people's plans make it even harder for us to stay on track? But it looks like you are planning ahead and can make it through a visit to Pizza Hut with minimal damage. Keep up the good work!!!

Next Week...

Thursday, January 14, 2010

Well...next weekend is my 23rd birthday [I should be excited, although I am not all that thrilled, lol]. There is lots of family and friends time, which means dinners that I am not preparing for myself...I am not sure what to do when it comes to going to the Mexican Restaurant on my birthday with my family. Does anyone know of a healthy meal at a Mexican Restaurant that I can try. I have done the taco salad, but according to Weight Watchers it isn't the best. I would ABSOLUTELY love some feedback and ideas on what I should do all next weekend since Friday-Sunday seems to be full of family and friends time.

Aww thank you...that is a good idea, although I don't think this small restaurant has a menu online or anything but I can at least try huh?

I would recommend taking a look at the menu before hand and then using the food tracker to see which of the options are the best. Don't let it stress you out and ruin your birthday though.

Reward System

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

I am going to try rewarding myself with non-food items as I hit benchmarks throughout my journey to 150 pounds. I am in need of some ideas for a few rewards, does anyone else do a reward system that wouldn't mind sharing their ideas with me? So far I have these rewards set....

190- Buy a movie or go to the movies [depending on if there is anything I would like to see in the movie theaters.
180-
170- A hour massage
160-
150- My goal weight...buy a new swim suit and clothes because hopefully I wont fit into my old items anymore.
emoticon

Good luck to everyone with their weight loss goals and have a wonderful day!
