Keep on keeping on

I really didn't want to do my fitness routine for today. it's strength training and I didn't wanna do it and put it off all day! But after dinner as I was charting, I didn't want to leave that goal unchecked so I did and now I feel a great sense of accomplishment. It also made me thirsty enough to down some more water; enough to make the 8 glass a day goal. So that's two goals, no three cuz I stuck to the meal plan and hit all my targets for nutrition and calories. I even got a half cup of ice cream in as a snack. Having that to look forward to as a reward for not over eating at dinner was very helpful. Nighttimes are my downfall. I really do well all day, I don't starve myself or anything but I usually have no trouble keeping to a healthy eating plan during the day, or at least on workdays. But at night I typically overeat. When my kids were away at college my tactic to avoid eating overly large portions for dinner was Lean Cuisine meals beefed up with tons of non-starchy vegetables. But now that two of my kids are home I have to make family sized meals! It's always a challenge not to go back for seconds and pick at the leftovers. So the dessert treat is a good strategy. Think I'll get some nice raspberry sorbet for my next treat! It's lower in calories than the premium chocolate ice cream I had tonight! That and some nice fruit on top would be a really yummy reward for sticking to the healthy portions I need.

So I just realized why I'm having trouble drinking the recommended 8 glasses of water a day. I typically use a water glass that's at least 12 oz. sometimes even 16! Duh! It's eight 8 0z glasses, not just glasses. I need to count each glass I'm drinking as 1 1/2 or even 2. That makes a huge difference and it should put me over the top with only 4-6 of my big glasses a day! That's more like it.

It's Saturday 11:30 AM. I'm bored and milling around the kitchen thinking about eating. I have my lunch planned and have already had my planned snack. I took a glucomannan capsule and drank a boatload of water but I'm still thinking about eating, so I thought I'd make 'to-do' list of stuff I can do instead of eating!
*Play my fiddle
*Do a 10 minute Spark workout
*Pick up a room (not the kitchen!)
*Do some laundry
*Plan tomorrow's food and activity
*Update my goals
*Write an email to a friend
*Look for a song on the internet
*Shop for fitness clothing
*Catch up with my kids
Finally, if I really just HAVE to eat something...
a no calorie food:
*cup of tea
*unsweetened cold tea
*flavored soda water
a low calorie food
*an espresso (herbal or reg) with non-fat milk and stevia
*V-8 juice
*celery stalk
*a few carrot sticks

    Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I just posted some ideas for when you just have to eat something! I've gotten out my little espresso maker and am enjoying steamed non fat milk in either real coffee or in this herbal coffee substitute, Teechino. I add a little stevia sweetener. Somehow eating foamed milk with a spoon feels absolutely luxurious! emoticon
