I just have time for a quick update today.

My weight has not really been moving. At least it isn't going up? I do really well during the week, but then on the weekend it seems there is always something to tempt me. This past weekend it was my friend's annual Valentine's party. She makes and AMAZING cheesecake, plus brownies and cookies. This weekend I'm headed to NYC with the husband for a long weekend. I'm just going to enjoy myself and not worry about food, but when I get back, I really need to get dedicated. I'm at least hoping that all the walking we will be doing will mitigate some of the damage! I'm also going to a spin class and possibly dropping in at a CF (but I don't want to ditch the husband too much!).

Yesterday's WOD wasn't too exciting for me. It was every other minute on the minute, you attempt 30 russian KB swings. At the end of the minute, you stop, no matter how many you've done and keep track of all the reps you didn't get and rest for a minute then repeat 5 more times. Usually there is a penalty for missing any of the 30, but this time there wasn't for some reason. We did this a year or so ago and I finished Rx no problem (53#). It still got hard at the end, but it was kind of boring since I knew I could do it and there was no real way to get better. I mean, I could do the 30 KB swings in less time, but I didn't write down when I finished last time, so there was no real way to compare. Oh well, can't win them all.

We also did power snatch singles. I didn't PR, but I matched my old PR.

Well, I have to go eat breakfast and drop my dog off at daycare before work. Have a great weekend everyone!

Sister Visit

Things have been going okay. My weight has gone down a bit since the end of the year, but it's been slow. I don't mind too much, slow and steady is fine with me. I've been loving my FitBit, I just wish it wasn't so cold out, My dog didn't even want to go for a walk this morning!

This past weekend I visited my sister who lives in Chicago. I was curious to see how far I'd walk each day being in the city. Over 7 miles/15,000 steps each day! I definitely indulged a bit, foodwise, but I was very active. On Sunday I was "active" for 86 minutes and on Monday? 136! It apparently made up for the food a bit, because my weight hadn't changed at all when I weighed myself after getting home yesterday. It made me wish I lived in a more walkable place! There are definitely areas of Minneapolis that are very walkable, but there isn't much within a mile of my house. It is very bike friendly though!

I also went to my first spin class ever at my sister's gym. It was actually pretty fun. I miss my bike in the winter! I might try and find a place I can drop in and do a class every once and awhile until it's warmer. I obviously love CrossFit, but I wouldn't mind biking inside for an hour while listening to Katy Perry once or twice a month ;)

Hey guys! Hope everyone had a good Christmas/New Year/whatever you celebrate! Mine was pretty low key. I was at my parents' for 8 days at Christmas , but unfortunately my dream of visiting the local CrossFit and cooking amazing meals in their renovated kitchen did not come to be. Instead, I got sick on Christmas Eve with a pretty bad cold, so I spent most of the week sleeping and watching TV.

One thing I have been thinking about lately is that even though I go to CrossFit 3 or 4 times a week, I am SUPER SEDENTARY when I'm not there. When the weather is good, I'm pretty good about taking my dog for walks and going on bike rides in addition to CrossFit. In winter? Not so much. I let my dog out in the yard instead of walking him and sit at my desk or on the couch for most of the day, even more so now that I don't even have to walk around campus to get to class.

So I decided to get a FitBit to track my activity and see how bad things really were, as well as to motivate me to move more when I'm not working out. It's already working! I'm down 4 lbs from when I got back from my parents and I've been getting in a lot more low impact activity! I've been walking my dog at least once a day (yes, even when it was -20 degrees out, although that was a much shorter walk than usual!). This weekend I was inspired to get some snow shoveling done. I even went to the mall on Sunday just to walk around....haha. If I have errands to run or if it isn't too cold to take my dog on a few walks or walk to the coffee shop, I have no trouble hitting my daily goal of 10,000 steps. To see how inactive I was before my fitbit, Monday was a great example. It was -20 out, so my dog and only went to the end of our block and back, instead of around the whole thing (or sometimes longer). I went to CrossFit in the afternoon, but I spent most of the day on the computer or watching TV (I just started looking for a new part time job, so right now I'm unemployed too!). My steps for the day? 4,400. If I hadn't gone to CrossFit, it would've been even fewer!

Aside from moving more, I've been doing pretty good with nutrition. Paleo + dairy + dark chocolate. I've been tracking my calories too (this keeps me from snacking too much). I'm also going to try and keep in mind my activity level. If I have a day where I'm not moving as much, I don't need to eat the same amount as if I'm doing a long CrossFit workout and taking my dog on 3 10+-minute walks.

Welp, that's what I've been up to in the new year! Now I'm off to walk to the coffee shop and get some work done on my master's project so I can finally be done with it!

    Boy do I hear that. When I'm not working out, I am the laziest person ever!!!! I'm that jerk who will park as close to the gym as possible, LOL. Not saying you're lazy... LOL. Just saying I sure am!!!

I have three days of eating clean down. It hasn't been hard at all since I cooked a bunch this weekend and have been eating mostly the same thing every day.

Breakfast- Egg bake (spinach, sausage, onions, gouda)

Lunch- Turkey cranberry meatballs, mashed sweet potatoes, carrots

Snack- Nuts

Dinner- Chicken burger from Trader Joe's topped with avocado + random veggies.

Dessert- Small square of dark chocolate

I've also been drinking a glass of whole milk everyday. I've never been a big milk drinker, but I bought some for a recipe a few weeks ago and drank the rest and ever since I've been hooked.

I also realized that the inside of my pumpkin recipe is actually Paleo except for the half cup of brown sugar (it's just pumpkin, spices, eggs, and coconut milk). I had some leftover filling this weekend and just baked it by itself and it was delicious. I'm going to try and make it again and cut down on the sugar for a special treat.

I got the new Well Fed cookbook in the mail today and I can't wait to check it out. New cookbooks always get me excited to cook!

As expected, I'm pretty sore from yesterday's strength class. Especially my triceps from the skull crushers. I haven't done those since way before CrossFit when I had a few personal training sessions at the Y!

    Love Well Fed 2! and Well Fed the original... when I make pumpkin stuff I use an apple as the "sweetener".. and depending on what you're making, it works pretty well!

Update on November

Oh hi guys. It's been over a month! Oops.

First of all, my weight has continued to creep up. Starting yesterday, I'm back to tracking. I'm currently 175-177. Remember when I was down to 150? Ugh. I'm so disappointed in myself. I know I've gained a lot of muscle since then (it was about 2 years ago, right after I started CF), but all of this is not muscle. My clothes aren't fitting and I'm super frustrated. Right now my goal is 160. I was able to maintain that for a long time. I don't really know what has happened this past year.

Everything is going pretty well on the fitness side of things though! We did the Oly total & Crossfit totals last week. I didn't PR on my Oly lifts (I need to get back to Oly class!), but the Crossfit total went really well!. I PR'd on the press, deadlift, and total (I've been working on some form issues with my squat, so I've been backing off on the weight). I also PR'd the bench press in strength class (104, up from 88 a year ago).

I've been doing strength class for almost 2 months. We started a new cycle today. We did:

Banded deadlift- 5 rep max
Bench Press (wide grip)- 5x5
Skull crushers- 3x12
Weighted lunges- 3x12
Whirly dirleys- 3x12

All stuff I haven't done for a long time. I have a feeling it's going to hurt tomorrow.

I'm also excited because Reebok had a 30% off sale today and my gym matched the discount, so I got to replace my oly shoes. I know what you are thinking, "Why did you have to replace your Oly shoes, Laura? Didn't you just get them in January?" Yes, yes I did. Well a few weeks ago, my husband and my cars were broken into. They stole his guitar.....and my gym bag. Yeah. I don't know why either. Ugh. Luckily they dumped most of my stuff in my neighbor's driveway, so I only lost the bag, the oly shoes, and my jump rope. I wasn't planning on replacing them so soon, but I couldn't pass up that deal!

    I can't believe some jerk took your shoes! I know where you are coming from, my weight is up too, and my biggest pair of jeans are tight. I hate when people say it's muscle! If it were muscle, I'd need SMALLER pants!
