Biggest Loser Challenge @ Work

Friday, May 21, 2010

We've started this challenge a few weeks ago @ work to motivate one another to lose more weight. The duration of this challenge is until June 25th. One colleague has held the top spot since the inception of this competition. I've managed to hold the second place spot until this week. My weakest point is overeating.

I am motivated to take back my rightful place and then some. However, I know that if I take the number one spot right now, it won't be easy to keep it.

Wish me luck.

Sleuth B is on the job

Monday, March 08, 2010

Last week I thought that high fiber oatmeal was stalling my weight loss. But, now I am not so convinced. The oatmeal has been eliminated for a few days and the same problem exists. This week, my assignment is to find out what the culprit is in my weight loss stall. I suspect it is something that I have changed in my eating pattern. Or, it could be the fact that I have not strength trained at all last week, hummmmm emoticon . I will be adjusting my diet and strength train like a crazy person this week to find the culprit. I will also follow some advice and try steel oats for a change. Thanks KAYWEB555.

Who else is on the job out there?

Good luck on your search for the troublemaker! Steel cut oats are SOOOO good. The difference between real oatmeal and instant is day and night. Oddly, I was just thinking I need to add that back in to my rotation of foods, since I lost a lot of weight at the start in January eating oatmeal for breakfast. I am struggling with getting enough fiber, too.

emoticonNow, let's both get at those weights this week!

Is high fiber oatmeal the culprit?

Saturday, March 06, 2010

I have been consuming higher fiber oatmeal w/45grams of carbs this week. Consequently, I have been maintaining instead of losing. I have always had trouble digesting high numbers of carbs in the past. However, I wanted to add the high fiber oatmeal to the mix to increase my fiber intake. All other variables in my regimen has remained constant. And although I love, love, love oatmeal, I am going to remove it next week. This will tell me if oatmeal was the culprit.

Has anyone else experienced this before?

i love oatmeal....but maybe try eating less of it and adding more fruit like a pear to bulk it up a bit

Never had that problem, B. I eat so many carbs that aren't good for me, I can never pin weight gain (or lack of weight loss) down on any good carbs. Just wanted to check in with you and say hi today. Keep on keepin' on; you'll get there!!

I haven't tried high fiber oatmeal, but, oatmeal is filling and high in carbs. I do eat the high fiber Cream of Wheat and feel very full afterward. Maybe you should decrease your serving size and add an apple. Eating more fruits with their skin is also a good way to increase fiber. That's what I did. There are also yogurts with added fiber now. Of course, you may have reached the dreaded plateau, in which case, just give your body some time to adjust. Fiber is supposed to be increased gradually.

No can't say that I have had that trouble. I left behind the Quick Oats and have been using Steel Cut Oats and since I got to the stuff that takes 20 min.s to cook I have been steady with the weight loss. I really enjoy this oatmeal. Can taste and see the difference! Good luck and let us all know what you find out. It could be that this is just one of those weeks that your body isn't going to get rid of any pounds!

Boot Camp Ball Trick

Saturday, January 30, 2010

This week's boot camp challenged us to perform back extensions on the workout ball. I was more than skeptical and failed to see the advantage of using the ball for this exercise. Boy oh boy was I wrong. I tried them side by side and found that the ball provides more flex ion than the standard floor version. I was actually able to feel more back muscles engage on the ball. I look forward to coach's future challenges. I know that I will learn something new to help me become more toned very soon.

Bootcamp Status

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

I have been rather consistent with my cardio work outs for the past three weeks. I am beginning to build up the endurance to incorporate strength training. I also make certain that I stretch after my work outs to increase flexibility. Boot camp is helping me to become more acclimated to prioritizing my work outs first and everything else second. Very soon I will not be able to start my day without working out first. That is my goal for this month.
