Wt is finally coming down..

Friday, January 14, 2011

craziness. Right now am avoiding all prepared foods, wheat, gluten, soy, sugar, and alcoho. It's working and I'm not hungry in between. Down 6 lbs. Want to get to three gym days a week, presently doing two..I beat myself up about that, but then realized for a month or so there I was managing to go far less, and do less while there. My present goal is to make going there a twice a week event for awhile, and work out according to the fitness eval I had last month. Will try to up it to three when that becomes a habit. Water consumption has increased since I began to drink it hot with a squeeze of lemon.

Sounds like diet changes I made a few months back. We are not completely GF but we are cutting back. My son has allergies and I feel better but need to look up some different food options as I am getting a little bored! I plan on hanging out at trader joes tomorrow to get inspired.

some good books that helped me - I love to read about nutrition !

I tried the hot water and lemon. I use it to take my vitamins after it cools a bit. They go down easier.

Feeling housebound..

Thursday, November 04, 2010

It's the second day home with a sick 5 yo, and it's raining cats and dogs outside. He's doing well, thankfully, and its a good kid and easy to entertain but his Gram is getting a bit stir crazy from the inactivity! We've decided to do some yoga in a bit..hope it helps. I am so used to my walks and my gym time now that I miss it when i can't do it. Who would ever have thought that I would miss exercise? LOL..

I've been sitting in the car for too many hours and of course not working out much on this trip so I get it. But today, we hiked up the side of a small mountain. Lordy, I was outta breath!

You miss exercise, who would have guessed? Now that we are enjoying it and seeing results in how we feel and look it is something we miss when we can't get it done.

Hope your little one feels better.
Raining lots here too.

Learning as I go..

Sunday, October 31, 2010

News at, the definite correllary between exercise and blood sugar is rapidly becoming apparent.. yesterday was not a good food or water day. I was at the National Mall for the Jon Stewart Rally and healthy choices were hard to come by in the press of many thousands of bodies. Came home starved and ate a moderate amt. of fries, and hot dogs, and veggies and had some wine, and ack! However, my exercise was downright stellar, and I logged miles on foot at brisk paces all over DC, and my FBS was exactly where it's supposed to be this morning! Which does not mean that it's cool to disregard my dietary rules, or at least not often..but that exercise does play a huge role in keeping things controlled. Yay!

I see that correlation with exercise and my reading. It is so important to us to get off the couch and move, move, move! And test, test test as well!

That's right - It is only when we make this a habit that workouts just won't cut the mustard.

Diabetes management classes now completed..

Friday, October 15, 2010

New nutritional guidelines received, new things to understand, adjust to, and make part of my daily life. 1300 cal limit, 147gm. carbs a day, spaced through three meals and two snacks, daily exercise, not three times a week, and the beat goes on. I need to lose 13 lbs. I need to take my blood sugar at least twice a day..fasting, and again 2 hours after a meal. Part of me is angry..I already ate healthy. Larger portions than I should probably, but healthy choices. I already exercised regularly. My wt. is higher than it should be, yes..but not even by 20 lbs. I thought I was doing well. Now I have a sharp lesson that I need to do better. One can die of diabetes..but one can also live with it..and hopefully well.

Your last statement says it all. I vote for living well despite having diabetes.
It is frustrating when you are already eating right and exercising, yet it isn't enough. Good luck with your new plan and let us know how you are doing.
