Today I am going to remind myself of the ashes that we put on our foreheads while hitting the cold, hard pavement. The sunshine keeps peeking through the clouds, so I'm determined to get out there and do a long run. I'm going to take it easy though, nice slow pace since I'm still working my foot back to a healthy status.
Yesterday wasn't so great for me. My girlfriend had a birthday so I decided that I would make her a lovely batch of double chocolate cupcakes with frosting and sprinkles. (vegan of course) The only problem was the cupcakes were so tempting I ate one while still warm. Then if that were not enough, while frosting little dark gems, the frosting ended up too runny and no more powdered sugar in sight. Grrr So it was an adventure. I ate so much frosting I even got a little stomach ache. Then my snacking didn't stop there, I ate pretzel sticks last night without portion control. Oops! I have to learn to have things around the house and not eat them - it's one of my weight-gaining issues. Yep, still in progress mode.
On a positive note, I made the husband two different kinds of pancakes for Shrove Tuesday. (Double Chocolate Brownie Pancakes and Red Velvet Pancakes) Thankfully I managed to not eat them and go for something a bit more healthy. I had some leftover Millet, Tomato Mixture with two homemade baked (without oil) falafels. Yum! It was so delicious!
Randomly thinking... I never showed you the new running shoes (which I hope to test out again this afternoon). I had two different pairs. I got the first two pairs and they looked amazing but they were not the right size. I just couldn't get either size to fit perfectly so I had to decline on the model.
As I mentioned before I went ahead to the store and purchase another pair for walking but they then turned into running shoes. They look a bit more chunkier but I believe they are going to handle the hard work I demand them to endure.
As a bonus, I managed to purchase two new running shirts too. They are both perfect! Please ignore the messy bed, I was going to make it right after I took the photos. I was just too excited to wait!
So I'm looking forward to starting Lent (that sounds strange but it's true). I plan on fasting from Processed Snacks (aka junk food). I don't eat that much of it but lately it has been seen in our household quite often - so I think it is the perfect thing to give up since it is something that we are enjoying right now. Every time I look at junk food now, I can be reminded of my sins. Such a wonderful season. Is anyone else giving anything up?

Gasp! It's been such a long time, 6 days! So long not to be on SP! After my foot injury, I really feel into a lazy lull. It was really hard not working out in the great outdoors or at the gym. Any sort of pressure was really putting a damper on any workout longer than a walk up and down our house stairs. Thankfully I think my foot is pretty much healed. After about 3 miles running, I start to feel the pain a bit but not as bad as before thank goodness. So, for now I'm slowly getting back into the swing of working out again. This last 3-day weekend was very nice, we even had time to sit outside and play with the neighbors daughter. So much fun but so much energy! It was great! We managed to only fit in a Saturday workout but then we got into other things that used up energy. Saturday we worked on our computers at the coffee house about half a day then we went shopping for a gift for a friend's birthday. Sunday we managed to make it to the Art Museum to walk about for four hours looking at Ancient European art. Then on Monday we managed to spend about 5 hours walking around the zoo looking at all our favorite animals (which happens to be all of them). Such a great time!
Normally Monday is our day off but the weather was really bad (snow, rain, clouds, dark threatening looks from the skies) so we decided to make today our "no-workout" day. My husband is trying to make me stick to the one-day off plan so that I don't overdo it like normal. (aka the foot injury) So tomorrow I'm hoping for better weather and a good workout. Hooray! It's a good day for the beginning of lent season.

It's been a while since I blogged last, I've just been lazy without any real excuse. It's been about a week since we really worked out, so maybe I just didn't have too much to report. Oops. On a brighter note, my foot is feeling better most of the time. Occasionally I have a slight pain but that is very minimal so I'm thrilled. On Monday the husband and I got outside and tried to run our normal distance. My husband's knee/leg started to hurt around 1.5 miles so we had to turn around. I feel bad for him but then on my greedy side, I was disappointed because I was feeling great and wanted to run longer. At least I can honestly say my foot was fine afterwards, just a minor pain. Thankfully I think the new shoes and rest served as the best solution. (even though I was grouchy the entire time)
Last night it was snowing again and the sidewalks are still covered in snow (why don't people have to shovel them here?). So, we chose to stay inside working out while our homemade pizza dough was rising. (We don't celebrate Valentine's Day so we chose to make vegan pizza at home.) We did the entire Aussie Beach Bum Workout - it works the tums, bums, arms and etc. I'm not a fan of exercise videos (we all have our preferences), but this one was kinda fun. It's easy but at the end of each section you definitely feel your muscles being worked. Then I did this 11 minute video that mimics zumba. So much fun! It really works out the core and hips. This morning my hips are actually feeling a bit tight. Just thought you all might want to have some fun too. I posted the entire workout videos on my blog: genkikitty.wordpress.com. You can access them there too.
What are your favorite workout videos?

So sad! We ordered running shoes online, two pairs in total. We got them overnight, which we were thrilled about since it was our first time doing so this website. Apparently they want you to be impressed the first time so they send everything overnight by FedEx. We got the shoes, jumping at the poor delivery guy. My husband loves his shoes - he got the Mizuno Red Limited Edition Wave Inspire 15- I think that's the name of them. Mine, I order the new Asics GEl Noosa Tri-7 in multi-color. They even glow in the dark which will be exciting on those nights when we run longer than the sun stays up.
Only problem: the website states to order 1/2 up on all running shoes. My husband and I have never had a problem with the sizes being off, so we ordered the exact size of our foot. My husband's worked out. Unfortunately mine were way too big. So, that left us calling the company twice to get everything sorted out. We actually had to order a new smaller pair and then send the others back for a refund. (I'm hoping it's a full refund like they state on their site.) It's a little stressing to have to go through the whole process. Thank goodness though it was our first time, so the representative gave us free shipping back. They charge an alarming $10 for shipping fees - a little pricy in my opinion. I would actually prefer to purchase on Amazon or in a store I think. But I guess if you know exactly what you want, it's easier. Testing things in the store first and then ordering online.
So, instead of my overnight shipping (we got the VIP membership), I have to wait until Tuesday! Yikes! The customer service representative stated 3-5 days but unfortunately that's 7 from when they shipped it out yesterday.
I'm a little impatient as you can tell since my husband already has his running shoes waiting. but since there is nothing I can do, I guess I have to wait. The hardest thing for me...

I'm still resting my foot today but thank goodness it doesn't really hurt when I put pressure on it for a short period. It is still scaring me a little so I am trying to stay off it and just slowly reintroduce it to walking to see how it goes. I hope I can at least get some yoga in tonight for a workout since I can't run still. I listened to NatPlummer and iced my foot three times yesterday and then wrapped it the rest of the time with tape and an ace bandage. Today I took everything off it to test the waters. It feels strange because it is naked but I'm guessing that is because there is less pressure on it.
Warning you are going to think I'm crazy, but, It's exciting to think this is my first official runner's injury. Does that mean I get my "runner's membership"?
As far as eating, I didn't do as good as I wanted. I felt like I was snacking the entire day. Grrr I stayed within reach of my calories, amazingly but I was eating nonstop. I have issues with snacking too much, so I try to keep them to a minimum but it didn't work out today very well.
Breakfast: Something new to my routine. Natural Grits made with water, a little vegan butter, and some nutritional yeast. A some fruit on the side (see my daily eats on the main page)
Snack: Jazz Apple and a herbal tea (not a English tea - skipped the sugar today)
Lunch: Leftovers galore in our household so I had a little leftover Vegan Mac-n-Cheese, Vegan Moussaka (thanks hubby ) and part of a homemade whole wheat pita.
Snack: Zevia Black Cherry and a bunch (gasp!) of Sorghum Popped Grain
Dinner: Crockpot Pasta Fagioli - veganized by me and a whole wheat pita.
Snack: No popcorn today - we are trying to kick that habit. So we "shared" a jazz apple (ate one slice and then there was only one slice left when I went for the second. haha) And 3/4 of a clementine. I was stuffed so couldn't finish that off and the hubby was kind enough to finish the job.
Not only is the furry pooch getting bored but also the furry cat. haha She stole Keelas' puppy pillow and claimed it as hers yesterday.
