Cold with a slight chance of a migraine

Monday are always hard, aren't they? Just when you are getting into your weekend groove then Monday comes around and really screws everything up. emoticon

This morning I woke up to a 2-3 pound increase in weight over the weekend. I gave a dirty look to the scale and then started my day with the normal healthy breakfast. It was oatmeal, chiaseeds, flaxseeds, brown sugar, and a little cinnamon. Today we started up a new coffee that is a dark French roast since we ran out of Christmas Peppermint Coffee. Then about two hours later I had a snack of Emergen C Immune Boost (bought it for the hubby when he was on his trip but he didn't remember to drink them), zero calories and then also a nice cuppa.

I tried to get into some more work but unfortunately my head started to hurt on the right side of my head. I'm blaming it on the tax papers that I was trying to get done in between some research for work. But, I guess that is just a sad attempt to get out doing them. haha

I ate lunch which was homemade kimchi mixed with brown Japanese rice. Then I had some baby bok choy lightly sauteed with sauteed tofu on top. (I use spray oil instead of lots of oil.) Then I drizzled a little Okonomiyaki sauce on top...

Even though my stomach was hurting the entire day due to the headache, I made myself eat a good amount of food. It's something that I am trying to remind myself to do, eat properly no matter how I feel. I had a herbal tea called "Sleigh Ride Sugar Cookies" - no sugar and a lemon zest Luna energy bar. Yum!

Finally I got to making dinner after we went to purchase some necessary groceries of more Jazz apples, pineapple, artisan lettuce, and a few other things. Yum! I love seeing the colors on the conveyor belt at the stores, makes me feel so proud. Dinner was simple: More kimchi brown rice, steamed kale with a little furikake on top, steamed carrots, Mock Vegetarian Duck, a umeboshi and a little tomato/onion appetizer.

Even though I didn't get to exercise today (since my head has been really hurting), I am trying to keep the calories above 1200 calories. I had some Mini Pops (basically air popped sorghum grains), water and another cuppa.

I'm hoping my head feels better tomorrow so I can get to exercise again. My left leg hurt the entire weekend after doing some yoga after a run on Thursday but now it's starting to be just okay. I'm falling apart it seems today but I'm sure Tuesday will be nicer. emoticon

    Hi Brew99. I'm sorry to hear you are unwell. Ya, on a Monday it can make the week seem long and the weekend seem all screwed up. I love your blog. It's so cute (you probably weren't feeling very cute when you wrote it but you're just so naturally cute, it comes through anyway). I love the pictures of your mug and the descriptions and the food. I'm glad you're really trying to nourish your body with good food and calories even though you have a headache. Although, sometimes, your body (like when it has a fever) just wants to concentrate on getting well and has no appetite for a good reason. That happen to me, a few weeks ago when I got the flu (still recovering emoticon ) and I lost 8 lbs. Couldn't find them for the longest time,! Yeah!!! Anyways, ah, you, hope you feel better hon. Oh wait. What happened with the yoga injury? What pose/position were you doing? what style? Just wondering...I haven't practiced for a while cause of the flu but I am a (new) Restorative Yoga teacher curious as to what happened. Don't stretch the area anymore until it's all healed, k? Happy Australia Day:Thursday

Finally the day has come that my hubby comes home from his business trip. He is never going to leave alone again. (just kidding) I'm thrilled to have him home once again, it gets a little quiet around the house when he's not here - but I have to admit it is easier to clean up after just myself. emoticon

This morning I woke up to my morning wake-up telephone call, which I'm always happy to get when he's gone. A little outdoor activity with the furry baby and then I finished cleaning our oven. I used the spray stuff in the evening and then I had to clean it the rest of the way this morning. Then I made breakfast. I always make the same oatmeal, the same way. But this morning the microwave decided to have a mind of its own. Grrrr Doesn't that just make you mad?

For Australia Day I added some Weet-bix to my oatmeal for more fiber and a crunch. Yum!

Tired after cleaning the oven, I retreated to my home office where I did a little work that was important. Then I got to my duties as a housewife. When I got on vacation I always like to come home to a perfectly clean house, so I wanted to make sure that when the hubby came home it would be the same way. So I cleaned the entire upstairs just for him. Plus it probably needed it so I can't complain. I tried out some new chemical based sprays to get away some lime and rust from our nasty water here. I'm slightly afraid of them though. haha
(My husband said I looked like I was going to rob a bank... haha)

In no time it was lunch so I had leftovers again. I'm going to be thankful when the hubby gets back so he can eat some leftovers so I don't have to anymore.
emoticon But, I'm thankful I have food on my table, so I'm not really complaining. I also ate a jazz apple. Yum!

Next I got into cleaning the first floor. That's the hardest part because I have to clean the kitchen and that means lots more hands on cleaning of the floors. (I do it by hand because it gets cleaner - I'm strange, I admit it.) Again, I admit that I took a ten minute nap, so tired from all the cleaning. I have to give it to people that are housekeepers!

Finally I went to the gym. My legs are a bit tired from this last week so I wanted to make a shorter run for today. I still need to put together a better schedule for running so I don't tire myself so much. I love running though, I can't help it when I see a treadmill. So, I ran just 3 miles. I started at 12 min/mile and then was done to 8:40min/mile the last mile. Hooray! Keeping focused on the goal really helps me stay on the treadmill running at such a fast speed for me.

I got home and was a little hungry (strange for me after a workout) so I ate some Trader Joes' Edamame Thin Crisps. They taste like Japanese rice crackers and are so tasty!

Now I sit writing and drinking a mug of tea while I wait for my husband to come home in a few minutes.

Speed Training Workout: Wednesday

I woke up early this morning after a pretty sleepless night. After my long runs I have restless legs and it keeps me up. Solution to this anyone? Please?!?! So, I've been grouchy to say the least. I just must have 8 hours of sleep or I'm useless... Or maybe it was due to missing my hubby I'm not sure... Either way, I got up and made myself a terrible cuppa coffee and had my normal oatmeal meal.

The morning really got away from me as I got to purchasing glass jars for organizing our spices and dry beans. I got rid of a spinning spice container that used to sit on our counter - it just took up too much space. So, I got some amazing deals on seal-able glass jars but it did take about two hours of searching for the perfect ones. Then I also stopped by and got a few other things for organizing the husband's home office. Yay! Walking around the shops really is a good workout.

Then I ate leftovers from yesterday for lunch.

Our lovely neighbor came over with her two year old and we played/talked for a bit. Then it was already time for my gym workout. I tried to focus not on the work I didn't get done for my job but on the workout ahead of me. Again the good treadmill was taken so I had to use an old one until the person left. The older treadmill hurts my legs because it is not level on the ground. Plus it changes tempos all the time - so strange! My stomach was hurting still a bit, so I decided not to run the entire time so I went ahead with speed training. I did 1/3 mile running at 8:40min/mile and then walked 1/3 and so on. It was a great workout and hopefully it will help my mile times. My ankle is still hurting a little and my right knee - still think it's the shoes. Gotta start looking for something new.

Dinner: Leftover vegan chez sauce over whole wheat pasta with peas and a side salad. My stomach was hurting a bit still so I had to eat it in stages but I did make myself eat it.

All in all, I think today went rather well. I got out of the house instead of pouting at home about my husband being gone. Then I got myself to go to the gym again. Hooray! How was your day?

    Back in the day, when I was running, I found that I just HAD to do yoga to counterbalance the running with stillness/slowness/lengthy stretching. I'm sure you stretch, so maybe you get enough of that, but I just thought I'd mention it because I don't have any other bright ideas.
Sounds like a pretty nice day, despite the hubby being gone!

Missing: Tuesday Update

Oops! I missed yesterday, I just realized this. Sorry. I think the day just got away from me since I was working and cleaning the house a little. Then after my 80 minute workout, I was tired and didn't do much other than dust the house.

Again, I managed to get myself to the gym and was feeling so good that I went ahead and did my long run. I ran 7 miles (1 mile longer than my previous long run). In total I was in the gym for 80 minutes. I still think it's time for some new running shoes since my right ankle is hurting just a little bit. Or it could be running on a treadmill, I'm not sure...

When I got back home I actually took a nice long hot bath with Ahava Relaxation Bath Salts ( emoticon Ahava). I read this amazing book by Lori Wick called Sophie's Heart which is a Christian Fiction Book. Perfect for a cold winter night. It's an easy 2 day read, so I highly suggest it.

Then another Baked Tofu Dinner with Vegan Cheddar Cheese over an organic mixed red leaf lettuce salad. Yum!

The husband is still gone so I am really missing him but I managed to just snack on some freshly popped popcorn and 1 tbsp vegan chocolate.
