Speed Training Workout: Wednesday

I woke up early this morning after a pretty sleepless night. After my long runs I have restless legs and it keeps me up. Solution to this anyone? Please?!?! So, I've been grouchy to say the least. I just must have 8 hours of sleep or I'm useless... Or maybe it was due to missing my hubby I'm not sure... Either way, I got up and made myself a terrible cuppa coffee and had my normal oatmeal meal.

The morning really got away from me as I got to purchasing glass jars for organizing our spices and dry beans. I got rid of a spinning spice container that used to sit on our counter - it just took up too much space. So, I got some amazing deals on seal-able glass jars but it did take about two hours of searching for the perfect ones. Then I also stopped by and got a few other things for organizing the husband's home office. Yay! Walking around the shops really is a good workout.

Then I ate leftovers from yesterday for lunch.

Our lovely neighbor came over with her two year old and we played/talked for a bit. Then it was already time for my gym workout. I tried to focus not on the work I didn't get done for my job but on the workout ahead of me. Again the good treadmill was taken so I had to use an old one until the person left. The older treadmill hurts my legs because it is not level on the ground. Plus it changes tempos all the time - so strange! My stomach was hurting still a bit, so I decided not to run the entire time so I went ahead with speed training. I did 1/3 mile running at 8:40min/mile and then walked 1/3 and so on. It was a great workout and hopefully it will help my mile times. My ankle is still hurting a little and my right knee - still think it's the shoes. Gotta start looking for something new.

Dinner: Leftover vegan chez sauce over whole wheat pasta with peas and a side salad. My stomach was hurting a bit still so I had to eat it in stages but I did make myself eat it.

All in all, I think today went rather well. I got out of the house instead of pouting at home about my husband being gone. Then I got myself to go to the gym again. Hooray! How was your day?

    Back in the day, when I was running, I found that I just HAD to do yoga to counterbalance the running with stillness/slowness/lengthy stretching. I'm sure you stretch, so maybe you get enough of that, but I just thought I'd mention it because I don't have any other bright ideas.
Sounds like a pretty nice day, despite the hubby being gone!

Missing: Tuesday Update

Oops! I missed yesterday, I just realized this. Sorry. I think the day just got away from me since I was working and cleaning the house a little. Then after my 80 minute workout, I was tired and didn't do much other than dust the house.

Again, I managed to get myself to the gym and was feeling so good that I went ahead and did my long run. I ran 7 miles (1 mile longer than my previous long run). In total I was in the gym for 80 minutes. I still think it's time for some new running shoes since my right ankle is hurting just a little bit. Or it could be running on a treadmill, I'm not sure...

When I got back home I actually took a nice long hot bath with Ahava Relaxation Bath Salts ( emoticon Ahava). I read this amazing book by Lori Wick called Sophie's Heart which is a Christian Fiction Book. Perfect for a cold winter night. It's an easy 2 day read, so I highly suggest it.

Then another Baked Tofu Dinner with Vegan Cheddar Cheese over an organic mixed red leaf lettuce salad. Yum!

The husband is still gone so I am really missing him but I managed to just snack on some freshly popped popcorn and 1 tbsp vegan chocolate.

Mondays are usually rather harsh but this weekís start was tough. It started out with getting the husbandís final items packed and out the door for a business trip. His work doesnít tend to take him away much but when it does happen, itís very sad. This is the first trip he has taken by himself without me. For me, the beauty of being a freelancer is that I can take my office on the road and it doesnít matter much. So taking him to his office so he could receive a company car was really tough on me. Additionally, our local bakery wasnít open so we had to go to Krispy Kreme Donuts to take for all the people going. I spread junk food to other people, I felt terrible. (At least I sent a ton of homemade vegan goodies to snack on for health and nutrition.)

When I returned home I wasnít hungry for breakfast so I decided to relieve some stress by going to the gym. Exercise doesnít come naturally to me so I have to push myself to do it when stressed. Iím a binge eater when sad/depressed so this was very monumental for me. It occurred to me that I could just sit at home pouting, as I ate a copious amounts of junk food, or I could enjoy myself out-and-about and completely crash at night. It seemed to have worked.

My workout consisted of 3 miles on the treadmill in 33 minutes. That was an average of 11 min/mile. In reality I do about a 12 min/mile and then speed up every few minutes until Iím running about a 9 min/mile. Unfortunately about 2.5 miles into the run (I had planned 4-6) the maid came into our tiny gated-community gym. She was a little aggravated I was using the gym in the morning when she wanted to clean so she was spraying lots of harsh chemicals right next to me. I even got off and used a weight to crack open the doorway for fresh air. Even a small joking comment that the chemicals were so strong didnít work to get my point across that my coughing was due to the chemicals instead of a cold. I ended up lifting some weights for about 10 minutes and just couldnít handle it anymore when she started to use the vacuum near my feet. Haha I gave in and left earlyÖ

Next I went home and got to some work in my home office. It didnít last long though before the furry baby was begging to go outside for our morning walk. 1.25 miles down the road and back in the sunshine was very refreshing and the pooch was thrilled. Back home I made a simple lunch and got off to the zoo.

Mondays are free for local residents in Cleveland so it was the perfect day for my husband to leave. Hello free entertainment! Normally it is packed with young parents pushing their young ones in strollers but due to the occasional rain-shower, it was basically just a few people. I walked around for about 2.5-3 hours being entertained by the animals. Or was I the entertainment, Iím not sureÖIt was a pleasure to be able to see Godís wonderful creations while listening to my spiritual music on my iPod. I decided to leave about 30 minutes before the zoo closed because the rain poured and my feet were soaked. Thankfully I knew there was a hot bath waiting for my return so I wasnít sad.

An hour in a hot bath and a simple salad dinner was a great ending to the day. Unfortunately later in the evening, when I was really sitting around the house alone, I did have some snacks. I had half a homemade vegan lemon poppy seed muffin, one serving of chips and a small 90 calorie can of coke. It was wrong but Iím thankful that I realized what I was doing and stopped after the first few things eaten. Iím still working on my issues with food but thankfully I see progress with overeating.

    I think you did an awesome job! Girl, I like to eat with every emotion I feel. Happy, sad, stressed, you name it! But at least you made up with it by all the calories you burned! I didn't even get to the gym yesterday. The cold rain, for the 5th day in a row, really got to me & I just couldn't pull myself out of the funk long enough to go. So today, I've got to work extra hard! Hope your having a wonderful day so far:)

    Happy New Year!! I even had some black sesame candy yesterday to celebrate. Unfortunately our mostly Vietnamese neighborhood was setting off firecrackers all night. Not much sleep for me.
