Biggest Loser: Bob in TX

Monday, October 24, 2011

Okay Biggest Loser fans... I'm confused. Bob went to Texas and stayed at the contestants house. He made a meal with them but then placed fish on his plate. Didn't he go 100% vegan this last year? Were my eyes playing tricks?

I only saw him eating corn so I don't know. Do you have comcast cable. You can review it again, and yes, he is supposed to be vegan.

Waiting & Bathroom Breaks

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

Today was one of those days. Maintenance wanted to come into our townhouse to put batteries in the fire alarms (according to the law here) so I had to wait around for them the whole morning. Normally they come early in the morning so I can still hit my morning gym run. Unfortunately this year they decided to come later and I had to wait until after lunch to workout. But, I still made myself work out. It's always so hard to get to the gym in the afternoon of evening compared to the morning hours, why is that? Does anyone else have that problem?

Breakfast: Coffee and Sprouted Tofu scramble with kale and red cabbage.
(oops, I have to load the photo from my camera still...)

Snack: Very small Apple and a cup of tea

Lunch: Same as yesterday: Large Arabic pita stuffed with organic mixed greens with a side of freekeh (my addiction lately). I also had a little organic orange juice for some sugar since I naturally have low-sugar levels.

Snack: Luna Peppermint Stick Energy Bar after my workout.

Dinner: Refried Bean Soup and a small salad with raspberry vinaigrette.

Snack: Tonight I'm making homemade vegan pumpkin pie as a test for Thanksgiving so I'm sure that is going to end up being tested too in a small amount. It's made from our pumpkin we got at a local farm though so healthy. Yum!

Workout: 4 miles in total and 50 sit-ups on the ball. Walk to and from gym.

I'm going to have get some tofu for a scramble :-)
I always prefer the morning at the gym. Otherwise it's too crowded.

Unexpected Busy Day

Monday, October 17, 2011

Today I had nothing special planned but work, work and some more work that I have been putting off for a while. I'm a big procrastinator lately for some reason. At least the things that I would like to get done do not have a scheduled due-date so that is always good.

Breakfast: 2 pkgs BetterOats Oatmeal Maple Syrup and some coffee

Workout: Run, Bike, Free Weights and other calisthenics.

Lunch: Arabic Pita Bread (1 serving) stuffed with Organic Mixed Greens, a side of Freekeh (green wheat) and part of an apple.

Dinner: SoonDobu Jigae (vegan version) with freshly cut red cabbage, kale, kelp, hijiki and brown rice among other things. Yum! Photo coming after I load it.

Snack: Black tea with some Unsweetened Almond Milk and brown sugar, a smartie this afternoon, and a bite of my husband's pumpkin cinnamon roll that I made him this weekend. (he was eating it so I stole a bite - oops) I also made him a healthier version of handheld apple pies with a cute pumpkin face on them. So cute!

I feel wonderful for getting to the gym this morning for a great workout. I worked out for about 2 hours and do not feel pain tonight. A little tired but that could have been since I watched a friend's 15 month old girl this afternoon between some work.

How was your workout?

6 miler

Friday, September 23, 2011

Yesterday I had the best time in the gym. I'm following along with a rigorous training schedule (at least for me) and it was the day for my first 6 miler. This plan is for a half marathon. The last time I ran a half marathon (13.1 miles) was last December. I'm still in the honeymoon phase so I'm excited to start up the training once again. I just took the run slow and enjoyed the fun. It's amazing after you start to make yourself exercise you really do learn to love it. Some days it feels like a chore but most of the time it allows me to release stress and relax.

Breakfast: Better Oats with an apple and peach (from a local farmer)
Lunch: Kale, Collard Leaf, Black Bean Soup (all homemade)
Snack: Apple
Dinner: Mujaddara, Lebanese Lentils and Rice with a garlic Lemon Sauce, Hummus, and Arabic Pitas (all homemade)
Snack: Vegan Peach Pie (all homemade)
All under 1,300 calories- Yum!

Better Oats Revolution

Thursday, September 22, 2011

Lately I have been adding a lot of recipes to my personal website, mainly the ones that I have kept around waiting to be put up but I didn't find the time to do so. Check it out, there are a lot of healthy fresh fruit and vegetable recipes that are so inexpensive right now in USA to make at home. Cheap and healthy, isn't that great!!! (genkikitty.wordpress.com)

The husband and I were gone on a trip to VA last week and we found a few good things and places to go. One thing that I have fallen in love with for trips is Better Oats. It is a prepackaged (I know, gasp!) of oatmeal that contains things such as flaxseeds, barley and so on. It's not just flatten oatmeal that is so common today. Plus, there is almost no sugar in the ones I purchased. I got the Raw variety and also the Apples and cinnamon. Thought everyone might want to check it out since they are wonderful for people on the go.

I've also been working out hard. I'm on a training plan right now that I'm trying to keep to for a half marathon again this fall. I am doing 4,4,6,4,4,6 miles a day right now. Six days of running and then one day of rest. I'm loving it but I have seen an increase in my appetite and also my weight. emoticon

I just love love oatmeal, even plain. I even bought in bulk from Costco just for myself, lol. I've seen the Better Oats in stores, I'll have to give it a try!

It's been awhile since I've visited your food blog, your recipes look amazing.

    I love Better Oats :-)
It's a good thing you're young. There is no way I could run 6 days a week and not get injured.

The increase in your appetite is probably due to the new expenditure of calories with your training...and...the weight could be muscle building as it weighs more than fat.

Have a wonderful day! emoticon

Oh, and the oats look great for traveling...I'll have to see if I can find them before our vacation!
