Weekend in Review

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Things have been a slight bit crazy this last week. As I was on a small date I setup with my husband, I was kindly told that my in-laws were going to be visiting. Yep, in three days! Yikes! Normally I would be thrilled with visitors however my mother in law has a bit of an OCD prob (okay, maybe a large issue) and it isn't under control. She is very judgmental and isn't shy to tell you your faults - especially with household chores. Now, I keep a clean house but then there are things that I tend to overlook at times such as dust in the tiniest place and I have not taken hours to think about where I want to "properly" place my house plants for the winter months. Oops! So, I took all Friday off from work to get ready for their arrival. Thankfully I got the house clean from top to bottom (only a few complaints). Boy was I tired!!! emoticon

As a special treat (boy I know I have changed when I say this but...), I went to the gym. I'm not sure if it was the exercise that I was needing or just to let off some steam to be able to keep my "cool" when the in-laws came in the evening on Friday. I went to run on Friday but the gym was under construction a bit (no television - gasp!) and the heat was turned way too high! I ran for a mile and once I started to feel a bit dizzy, I turned to walking. It was just too hot in there! I'm guessing that is the reason why no one else was in the gym. haha

So, I managed to keep calm on Friday and Saturday during our surprise visit/inspection. I even managed to stay calm after I spent an hour making Blueberry Crumb Muffins (Healthy Vegan Version) for Saturday breakfast and the in-laws (before testing or even look at them) asked to go to a local bakery to pick up some items to eat. emoticon

Saturday we then spend the entire time relaxing after they were gone. Sunday, we sat around chatting, drinking coffee and then did a little clothes/television shopping. I bought clothes for myself and a television for the hubster. Both of us were happy... I was especially happy when I fit into some Gap 2A jeans. Anyone know what "A" at Gap means? emoticon

Monday we also had off for Presidents' Day. Love Bank Holidays! We sat around doing basically nothing! Isn't that the best thing to do? We did manage to play some wii fit and wii sports. In addition, I did manage to get the laundry done and also do some yoga.

Oh boy! I hate surprise visits because I like to have a schedule in my head and I don't like it when people mess with it! You did great! Too bad they didn't want to try your muffins. I'm sure they were delicious

It sounds like quite the weekend. I'm glad you passed inspection.
The blueberry crumb muffins sound great to me.
I'm glad you found some Gap size 2 ankle length jeans that fit. I haven't been to the Gap in ages (or fallen in as they used to want you to do).
I spent my President's Day doing laundry as well. That's what they would have wanted, yes?

1st Run Outside in 2011!!!!

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Finally! It's feeling more like Spring!!! I like to call it pre-spring since we are never sure when the weather is going to flip and go cold again. But we were sure to take Mother Nature up and have a little fun outside. We ran over 4 miles last night in the sunshine. It was in the high 50's - amazing!!! emoticon It was the most amazing run! There were areas that had snow and ice covering but we took this as a challenge and went for it. As we were running we decided that if the "danger area" was small to medium, we were going to jump it. It was the most fun and good for stretching during the run. I'm sure people were watching and wondering what we were on, but it was great. Only once did I get a wet foot but it was well worth it. Thankfully my shoes were able to dry fast since they are true running shoes.

Brekkie: Of course there was coffee, the last of the Pirates Booty coffee. We ordered two new kinds to be roasted this next Friday, so I'm thrilled! Finding a place that roasts their own weekly is the best! We get our coffee roasted on the same day that we pick it up. As for the food part, I was terrible! I had three homemade Orange Infused Biscuits along with a little vegan butter. I was so full!!! I had almost 500 calories! oops! Additionally I added a Deva Vegan Tiny Multivitamin.

Snack: Two Cocopops and a candy cane herbal tea from Trader Joes.

Lunch: Leftovers

Snack: I had a piece of sugar free gum - truly sugar free - none of that fake sugar stuff. Then I also had some coconut water after our run.

Dinner: We were a little tired after our run and we wanted to BBQ for the first time of the year. We had bok choy thrown right on the grill and then a Vegan Marsala Burger (no bun) from Trader Joes. (This was leftover from our last BBQ season.) I also whipped up some dumpling soup in about two minutes.

Snack: A tiny donut hole and a cookie from Walmart- oops...

Those outside runs really lift your spirits, don't they? And I love those Marsala Burgers - thanks for the reminder, I need to get some more.

One of my favorite runs was when it was snowy and icy out (just a little). It was a blast dodging and jumping the snow drifts and ice patches! Made the run go by so fast! (And ironically it was a 4 mile run also)

Sounds like a good day. What kind of coconut water do you drink? I found a few to try but I was comparing my choices the other day and noticed that the one I preferred the carb count on had artificial sweeteners in it. I try to stay away because they spike my insulin and make me feel hungrier. Thanks!

Day Review 2/16/11

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Happy Presidents Day! Happy National Almond Day!

Yesterday was a really great day! I made some delicious Orange Infused Biscuits from scratch. Boy did the house smell fantastic! The weather was better and we went out to run our first mile on the real road! Hooray!!! We wanted to go more but the cold wind was really hurting my throat so I couldn't breath. Boo! Maybe more today though!

Breakfast: Two Chinese Yam Filled Pancakes. Each one is about 120kcals so not bad. Sodium and sugar content is very low.

Snack: Homemade Genki Kitty’s Orange Infused Biscuit. Candy Cane Tea from Trader Joe’s.

Lunch: Leftover spaghetti – very dry and not as exciting but still tasty with real tomato sauce.

Snack: Lollipop with gum inside.

Dinner: Dinner out. Lentil soup, hummus, tabouli, flatbread and a falafel. A little high in calories and fat content I’m sure but we didn’t eat movie theatre popcorn so I guess that was a plus.

Everything sounds excellent! I'm looking forward to my falafel meal out on Saturday :-)
I think the calories and fat were better spent on your tasty dinner than movie theatre popcorn.

2/14/11 Daily Review

Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Just another day in our household, we do not celebrate commercial holidays so we didn't plan anything special. My day was full of household chores, writing an article for work and also doing some more diet related blog entries on my site. I find it very fulfilling to be able to write blogs for fun on my website. I know it sounds strange since half of my work right now is writing for various companies but I find it pleasant to go over what happened during the day through writing about it. Additionally, it's nice to share with others my thoughts and how I am doing my lifestyle change into a healthier one.

Breakfast: I had two slices of sprouted whole grain toast. Added to that I had a Chinese Yam filled pancake and some Pirates Brew coffee.

Lunch: Leftover Hearty Lentil Stew from the You Are What You Eat Cookbook. It's an okay recipe so I wasn't terrified of eating the leftovers.

Dinner: A few pretzels as I waited for dinner to cook. The main course was Aduzki and Millet Salad. It's a warm salad just like the PCRM brown rice salad but only with millet. Tasty!

Snack: Herbal Tea

It's just for fun but I hope that I can spread the word about healthy choices and making a lifestyle change like I have done. If one person finds inspiration I'd be so happy. emoticon
