Welcome Back Everyone from the long weekend vacay! Here in Cleveland it was a rather nice weekend, slightly cold but nonetheless enjoyable. My Brother in law decided that he would come along with this roommate for the extended weekend. Thankfully they all decided to go to Cedar Point for a day in the sun (slash that), rain. I decided that it was in my best interests to stay home as I had a sinus infection and wasn't feeling the whole - man day out thing.
Instead, I decided to relax at home alone with our two furry babies. They were happy for the extra attention, at least there were no complaints. Mid-afternoon I decided that I was going to go ahead and head off to the gym. I'm not one of those people to run outdoors alone (at least in OH), so I chose the gym instead. Funnily enough, the gym was completely empty so I had free rights to everything in the gym. A athletes dream come true!!! I found the Travel Channel with closed captioning on and started with my warm-up routine of 10 minutes. Then I was off for over an hour and a half running. My goal was to run around 6 miles start to finish. Even though there were two other people that came and went (one being a child that changed the channel to Sponge Bob after I said he could), I was working hard at keeping focused. After six miles I decided that I was in a groove and I wanted to run another mile just for kicks. Loved the last mile, it wasn't as hard as I was first thinking it would be... I was running a slower pace than normal according to my training program so distance wasn't as much of an issue.
7 miles + a warm-up later, I decided that it was time to cool-down since my ankle was starting to feel a little tired. It was a great run and workout! Love it! Don't you just love days like that?
Then went home and started to make homemade spaghetti for all the guys coming back.
The next three days were incredibly busy with showing the guys around the city. Church, three homemade vegan meals a day, a hiking trip, and so on added to no running. We had planned on getting into our training program after the guys left on Monday, but, we were feeling under the weather. Actually, I took a fourth of a dosage of sinus medication and I slept for half a day. Then on Tuesday we were so busy trying to get our maintenance people to fix some repairs which took about three hours at night time. We can say that we have a new water heater but can't say that we did any exercise. booo....
So, after a few days off, I'm ready to jump back into the training program. I'm slightly disappointed in myself but I know it is something that had to happen. Even though I am trying to get healthier and lose weight, it does not mean that I'm going to drive myself crazy over some missed days. After all, I'm trying to form my life instead of just try to lose those extra pounds that just won't come off.
Tonight, 5 mile run in the 60 degree weather we are having... Looking forward to bringing out some fall exercise clothes! Yay! Wind breaker really needed on a day like today! Cheers to those that are getting back into the swing of things too.

Yesterday was a hectic day.... I guess we all have to have one of those here and there, right? Well, hopefully mine was just yesterday because this weeks training sessions were not the greatest.
Anyways, we had to wait for our maintenance department to come (they've skipped their last six appointments in four months, so we had to wait) before we could go do anything. We had intended on running to the gym to get in a workout before we had to go to two of the greatest places in the world - aka Trader Joe's and Whole Foods Market. Unfortunately they took longer than expected (while only getting one of the four things done) and our time was wasted. Since we have guests coming this weekend, we had to make sure we purchased our groceries last night. So, grudgingly, we went and didn't get our cross-training done. We hope to switch our cross-training day to today and not think about yesterday. We do lots of yoga normally, so it shouldn't disrupt our rest day before our big run tomorrow. I hope.
Food was disrupted yesterday also which I'm not thrilled about since it was all my fault. Then this morning we decided to go to Krispy Kreme which we really have banned from our lives for the last few months. Normally when we go there I am able to manage to just get a coffee and be happy. This morning though, I fell into the sugar induced pull of Apple Harvest Donuts. Thankfully when I tasted them (yes, sadly, I ate two!), they were not as tasty as normal apple cider donuts. I did notice though that the specialty donuts are much smaller than the normal donuts. Actually, we were looking and the special harvest donuts were the same size as the mini's. haha Wonder if they have less calories? Guess I'll have to check that out since one donut is around 300 calories! Yikes! That's a lot, especially since I try to eat only around 1200 calories a day!
I hope to keep strong and not let these two wrongs let my entire plan go done.
Plus note: I believe I lost a pound! Yay!!!

Last night we took off with our running shoes, running bottle, and our garmin watch for our preplanned 5 mile run. Little did I know, it was around 93-97 degrees with dry air... We chose a route that we have taken before however not in the late summer months. Usually the street is full of shade and perfect for a hot summer day of running. Unfortunately, we found out that in the late summer, the sun is right in a runners' face. Wow! It was so hot and steamy! Thankfully, we had put on our sunscreen (physical protection not chemical), otherwise we would be completely burnt.
I think with the combination of heat and feeling tired (lack of sleep the night beforehand) that we were not doing a good job. .5 miles as a warmup run. Then we went ahead and ran about three miles at LT pace (11 minutes per mile). We had to stop around three times to cool off a few seconds in the shade when we got some. Then we finally got to around 4 miles and we totally fell apart. I was feeling sick to my stomach, so bad that I could hardly move. We decided that since we had already done half a mile as a warm-up, we were going to walk the rest of the way home.
Whew! It was a really hard workout! It was one of the worst runs we have had to-date. I guess we have to have one of those... Afterward though, I really felt the pain in my stomach and knew I had pushed my body too much. Thankfully I had already made a lovely squash coconut soup and the BBQ tofu was easy to whip together. The hubby was so nice, he let me rest while he made the tofu. Such a sweetie!!
Drank some Ito-en Blueberry Green Tea (contains slightly amount of cane sugar) to revive my body and then rested the entire night. We just relaxed until bedtime. Happy ending to a hard, depressing workout.
Today, I am looking forward to once again doing some cross training. Yoga is a wonderful way to relax but workout the day after a terrible workout. Center the body and God will center the mind.

Last night was a little strange since we were waiting for our maintenance personnel to come by once again for an appointment. Unfortunately, for the sixth time in four months, they have not shown. Very irritating! We didn't let it bother us too much though. We decided since we were waiting for them, we were going to do our yoga workout and work our muscles. We chose to do the workout on our second floor so that it was slightly warmer and a little less visible if they were to come. Unfortunately we found out that it was a little too warm, hence, we were sweating it out after just thirty minutes! Yikes! It was a good workout though and our muscles were really feeling it. We completed the entire yoga/pilates fusion workout as planned.
Today is another beautiful day here in Cleveland. We are so blessed with the good weather we have been having. True, it has been hot during the days, reaching high 90's, but at least the mornings are cooler so sleeping is a lot easier on the body. With the sun shining, I'm looking forward to getting out there and enjoying the day. Our training program log suggests we fun 5 miles today at LT pace. I'm really looking forward to the run - not looking forward to the blisters. So tired of popping blisters.... yuck! Solutions anyone?
Wednesday: 5 mi w/ 3 mi @ LT pace
Thursday: Cross-train
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 6 mi w/ 4 mi @ 60% MHR
Sunday: Rest

Still can't believe winter is just around the corner, shocking! It has been a long year of exercise, dieting, finding myself and working through many different issues. I feel as though this last month, I have found my mojo again and am working my life back into play. My husband and I are working out about four-five times a week with a 10 mile training program and enjoying every moment of it. (okay, so there were some complaints during the last long run on the last mile...)
Normally the first of the month would be measuring myself and inputting all the changes my body has gone through. Unfortunately, today I do not feel up to the measurements and feeling of neglect to my body for my mishaps. So, I have decided I will do it another day when I have more positive energy to do so. (Probably on the weekend after our long run I will have more motivation to see what my body is going...) I've learned through the last few months that if I'm not positive, I should weight myself or check my measurements, it's just a downward spiral.
September Goals:
We are currently on week two of our ten week training program to learn to endure and increase our 10 mile run. Each day we are following the program and trying to not let stress or other factors get in the way of our plan. We plan on running and have fun while doing so!
Yoga is starting to crept back into our lives. I'm not sure why we stopped practicing for a while, since we love it, but we are thankful it is back in our lives. We are doing yoga at least two times a week. I hope to start making this two turn into at least a three this month. Today I did a morning yoga that I loved and hope to continue it everyday when I have the extra time in the morning hours.
Lifting weights has not been a large part of our workouts this last month. We are rather lazy when it comes to going to our small gym. Rather, I hope to find a nice set of weights to put in our house so that we can use it more often. We love lifting weights so if we could do it at home, we would do it more diligently. This month I hope to find a set and start lifting more often.
Continue walking with the pooch a few times a week to the park for picnics. Good workout for all three of us. In addition, I hope that we will continue to walk with the Lord on our journal through life and keep focused.
Food is an important part of our daily life - Vegan life! We love eating vegan and have a hard time thinking back to our days without healthy foods. We are continuing to try out new recipes and I make at least a few new recipes of my own each week. We plan on staying vegan this month. In addition, I plan on continuing to eat around 1200-1300 calories a day. On long run days though, I plan on getting around 1600 calories to fuel my body. No matter what though, I hope to continue to listen to my body and eat when it says it needs fuel.
Emotional Eating is getting better for me and I hope to continue to work through my issues with it this month. I have been keeping the kitchen free from unhealthy snacks and can't even remember when I ate soy cream (alternative to ice cream). Yay!
Enjoy life! Eating healthy and exercising gives me more energy and I intend on continuing down the path of enjoying everything that comes my way.
