April 5th - Green Idea

Sunday, April 05, 2009

Following along with "Coach Nicole's" idea of green living, today I would like to add additional information for April 5th. The 30 days of living a greener lifestyle suggests to go to the local library for books, CD's and movies. This weekend my husband and I went out to bike to our local library around 4 miles from our house. It was great fun to pack up the returnable books in a backpack and get cycling. Since we live in a large city with many suburbs around, we chose to not only stop at the library but to go an extra few miles to the local coffee shop. It was a treat because we rarely go to Caribou Coffee anymore. In total we biked for around 2 hours while we were getting my errands done, reducing the usage of gasoline fuel in our car, and most importantly enjoying each other during the bike ride. I highly suggest to anyone to get out those dusty bikes and get going with your loved one (spouse or even a friend!) It is a time for exercise but also for fun! So along with borrowing books, cd's, and movies why not bike to the your local library! emoticon

Funny Exercise Vlogs

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

So I was working out with some videos on youtube.com and found there are also some rather amusing people doing vlogs. I found this one by Kim who is in association somehow with Self Magazine. I've seen the magazine in the stores before however never had the chance to look through them. Anyone out there had the chance, let me know... There was some cute videos such as "how to get your lazy butt to the gym" and so on. Check these vlogs at: http://www.youtube.com/user/elasticwaist. They are worth your spare time.

Strawberry Sunshine...

Monday, March 30, 2009

This weekend was a rather cold, breezy spring getaway... My husband and I found that it was really hard to get anything done around the house, inside or outside. We chose to stay away from the long bike ride that we had intended to take; we feared being pushed off the bikes by strong winds from Lake Eerie. On the positive side, we did come across something amazing: strawberries!!! Yum! We live in the Northern states so it is hard to find fresh produce that is in season during the winter and within our price range. It has been around 6 months since we could have strawberries in the household! Move over oranges from the south because strawberries are coming our way! We found that Sam's Club (if you have one in your city, jump there and go to the produce section!!) had 1lb strawberries for under $5.00!! That is an amazing price. The best part is that they are sweet as chocolate and have little to no calories. For around 1/2 cup of halved strawberries there are only 22 calories! There is nothing better than that! Just a few more months and we can turn raw vegan again with all the fresh produce reaped from the Lord's Good Earth!

Try strawberries in smoothies made from one banana, an orange and some ice cubes....
Clean and trim the strawberries and have them as ready snacks in the fridge...
Grind strawberries and ice cubes together to have a simple iced treat...
