Sore Forearm & neck...

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

Seriously, I think that my husband and I are having a fight in our sleep... I've heard of people that eat when they are sleep walking, maybe we fight... I woke up Monday morning and was in deep pain. Now, I didn't actually make it to the gym or do any exercise on Sunday because I was feeling lazy - winter blues... yuck! Saturday my husband and I went outside to make a snowman and snowpup, that's all. So, not sure what happened but when I woke up on Monday - I felt over my age... I could barely type - which is hard since that is basically a major part of what I do as a job... Then my neck (which honestly I think I slept on it wrong somehow) was in deep pain whenever I moved. Is this really what turning old feels like? But I'm not even thirty years old - I have a long way to go before then don't I? Oh no...

Today I am feeling better- just s slightly pain in both. I've been icing the arm and heating the neck. haha I must be a sight to anyone that sees me through our windows. Not that I really care as long as it feels better. I have been really relaxing but I fear that I am relaxing too much and letting things slide - especially since it's that time of the month for me. Why is it again we woman always want to eat more (especially chocolate) when we have our periods... is it punishment? haha

Trying to keep positive through the pain - going to take some painkillers and pray that I can get to the gym tonight to do a little of something at least to burn off this chocolate craving.

Need to learn....

Sunday, February 28, 2010

a message to myself... eating when depressed is not the answer... even if it is just air-popped popcorn... yet again I have let the weather turn my smile upside down and let my emotions run wild... getting out of the household is hard to do when it's very cold outside and I work from home. In addition, my husband never wants to go anywhere on the weekend because he works hard outside the house during the week. It's hard moving to a place where no one is known and working indoors all day.

I guess I am feeling the winter blues everyone... motivation is low now (what a change from Friday) and I'm trying to write a small message to remind myself of this even that should not have happened...

I can't wait until I see this emoticon more!
I hear you about the "getting out of the house" thing. I like to do things and my hubby would rather sit on the couch all day and watch TV!

Another Pound Down!!!

Friday, February 26, 2010

So, I jumped on the scale a few days ago and I saw that I have lost another pound. My scale is one of those old-fashioned types (no batteries required) that I actually purchased about ten years ago for around $5-10.00 USD. haha Not the most reliable so I figured I would give it another few days to double check if I had in fact lost the pound or it was just a fluke with the old boy. Thankfully the last few days I have noticed that I had in fact lost the pound. In fact I jumped on the scale this morning and I saw that I was about another half a pound down from that - but still in the waiting game to see if that has really been lost or not.

I'm thrilled and announcing this today because finally I am out of the 130's!!! I have officially lost 23 pounds since starting here on Sparkpeople (probably lost a few more before coming here) and am thrilled with what I have accomplished. Yes, I am still wearing the same clothes such as pants and shirts. I doubt that I will ever have a photo of me showing how many more people I can share my pants with because I hold my weight very well, in a nice compacted package. But, I am thrilled because now I only have 6 more pounds to lose before I slid from the obese (low risk) category for my BMI and into the "normal" category. Now, normally I do not delight in being "normal" but for this one occasion, I think I will let my normal ruling slide.

emoticon Thanks to my husband for holding my hand along the way.
emoticon Thanks to my healthier, green diet.
emoticon Thanks to all my spark friends that help me out daily.

Ah yes that's the word. Transcriber. XD
But the recording is an observation recording recorded in an elementary class. So many students in there! XD

No matter if it's accurate of not, the pound is still lost! Congrats! :D

I know what you mean about the clothes. People say that 10 pounds is a pants size. For me, its more like 20 pounds. Maybe more. But as long as I'm healthy and happy it doesn't matter what size pants I have on!

Ready to get back to it...

Thursday, February 25, 2010

After posting a few of my recent "creations" I'm ready to get back into reporting how things are going with the lifestyle change. So, here comes the rambling...

Food: I'm an over-eater so I am working through my addiction to large proportions that somewhere along the lines I have gotten myself into as a habit. I watched this documentary once (hmm or was it a scientific journal - can't remember) that mentioned that Americans have started to eat on larger plates throughout the years. In correspondence, humans are consuming more food than previously on smaller serving plates. It really hit me strong that maybe this was my issue. Since college I got married and purchased two nice sets of china. The new china set is in fact larger than what I was using in college and before then. Before college my parents used the china set that they were given when married. They have been married for around 35 years so that means that the serving plates were smaller. So, I decided that maybe it wasn't the types of foods that I have been eating but rather my proportion sizes. This dimension change in plates in the last few weeks has given me the chance to feel much more full than before... yes, it's completely psychological but it in fact works. When a full plate of food is placed in front of a person, the person will most likely eat the entire thing. Hence, a smaller plate dispenses a smaller amount of food. When I get up from the table, I am less full but my pant buttons have been thanking me I believe...

Exercise: Last weekend I was able to run along with my hubster (playing with his new garmin watch) everyday. We ran at least 4 miles a day outdoors and it was amazing! We were running casually (not training right now for anything) and we were getting between 8-10 minute miles. Love running outdoors! It just lets your mind wonder and your heart improves from it not only from the exercise but the fresh air. Unfortunately we decided to do our own taxes this year instead of going to an accountant. We sold a house in another state and I work as a translator (freelance) from home, so it was very technical in all the new/old rules that we had to take into consideration for filing four things! Yikes! It was just so much work even though we were doing it through Turbo Tax! Accounting jargon is neither of our forte, so... We were really tired and couldn't seem to find the time to get to the gym. I guess housework and cooking is the only exercise that we have gotten. But, we are finished with the tax paperwork and thankful we can get back to exercise. That is if we can get through all the snow we are getting at the moment.

Health: Even though some of you have expressed your concern about my less than 1200 calories a day consumption, I am feeling better than ever! I have been eating small portions and three to four times a day! I have tried to subtract protein bars with fruit as a small between meals. I think this has given me more energy than the energy bars. In addition, I think that it is helping my stomach feel more comfortable when eating fruits during the day hours instead of at night. Consuming fruit at night will give you ah-hem (sorry) constipation because it is hard to digest but will digest faster than meats and etc. Not sure if its the fruit or just plain healthier lifestyle however my head has been more clear and I have not had any headaches lately. Yay! In addition, my hair, nails and skin look amazing! I still have some issues with adult acne but since it's hereditary, I am told it has nothing to deal with my eating habits.

Thank to all of you for your love and support! Please continue since each message (good or bad) keeps me going stronger. Motivation throughout this whole process has been my worst enemy. I am my worst enemy usually so I am learning to love myself and how to do just that...

Motivation Right Now which is on my Computer: (Colossians 3:23)
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for's the Lord Christ you are serving!" Amen!

emoticon It's still Lent.

*Whispers* I often eat around 1200. XD

But since I am happy with my progress, not deprived and feeling good I try not to think too much about it.

Family of Changes

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

While listening to a talk show once, I heard that the first vegetable that goes into a baby's mouth is a potato. Potato in the form of a french fry... usually from a fast food restaurant. I couldn't help but think back to all the children in my extended family and was amazed that one of their first was also a french fry from a chain restaurant. I guess it's so easy to hand over a french fry from our own adult meal and let the child suck on the fry. Then the announcer mentioned that most people in a survey stated that they would not feed their own furry baby a french fry. I immediately recognized that I am an offender of the same thing - I would never give my furry babies anything from a fast food joint. It still shocks me and every time I think about eating a french fry - I think of this story along with the survey done. Why would we feed a human being or ourselves something when we wouldn't give it to the ones in our family that gets a person by smelling their back-ends.... sad but true!

It's amazing what you learn from opening your eyes and ears to a healthier lifestyle. Here's just a photo from the other day of our little furry baby chows on a piece of steamed broccoli as a treat. Shh, don't tell her it's healthy and not a "cookie". So, next time you are ready to eat something that is off your healthier menu plan - think to yourself - would you feed it to your furry loved one?

Great post! It's amazing what we'll feed a child and never think twice about it and then realize that we'd never give it to our pets.
