Oh it's a whirlwind right now in our life, you have probably noticed I have not been online lately. We were supposed to move to Lancaster, California as mentioned in February and we have been getting all prepared to move. We packed everything up, resigned from jobs on a certain date, setup our house lease to end and prepared for the movers to come on a certain date and time. As the date got closer to moving, the new employer for my husband got more and more suspicious in telling us information and assisting with the move from Virginia to California. In the end, we couldn't see the move happening without specific information in order and set in stone. So we chose to end the work contract and not move. Then my husband's current company started laying off people in large groups and of course since he had already resigned they could not reinstate his employment. See, it's a whirlwind...
Right now we have so many mixed opinions about what happened and why. Thankfully we are keeping our faith and trusting in God for instructions on how to move on from here. As two university educated individuals we have never been without work (I still have an online position but only part-time) so this is very different for us. Since it has been a different situation, we chose not to get another contract for a new house rental and came to Michigan to be with family. We thought it was a nice time to reconnect with family members and have a little fun before going to our next state for employment. So while my husband is searching for a different job, we are staying in Michigan while our personal belongings are in storage in Virginia. Sounds strange but it's working and my husband's family is enjoying us being here for now since we haven't lived in Michigan for over ten years.
So now you are all updated. It's been a crazy life lately so now that we are finally getting into a little bit of a routine, I can finally have the gumption to write this and put it out there. I know unemployment happens to everyone but seeing as it was partially our choice and seeing as we are highly educated, it is a bit embarrassing. It shouldn't be but it still is... but humility is part of life I guess.
On to happier things. Lately DH and I have been getting into some running outside and enjoying the nice weather (minus the snow fall last night). Pup walks are a great way to get out in the sun and also we are staying on a lake so we just starting up the kayaking. We do not have a gym here but we hope to get some home workouts done once we find a large enough space to do it.
Okay all updated - wish it would be a happier message but hopefully soon it will be...

For a few weeks I have been absent since DH and I have been planning and getting everything together for his new job. He has secretly been applying for positions and he got one of the first ones he applied. He had a few offers but he choice the one that he really wanted - in the High Desert! We're born/raised Michigan folk, turned Indiana for college, turned Illinois, turned Ohio, turned Virginia. Now we are going to move to the desert, an adventure! DH has been to our future destination however I have never been even close to the area (I'm beyond freaked and stressed). Our destination: Lancaster, California! It's about an hour or so to LA (supposedly). If you are from this area, or know it, please please please contact me! I would love to know someone from the area.
We have just about 2.5 weeks now until we move. So far we don't have movers and do not have a place to live. Oh no... haha It's hard to actually find a rental when one doesn't live in the same area. Apparently there are some people that scam others by saying they are from out-of-state or something like that so now some people require renters to come in person... bo boo... We're chugging along hoping for the best.
My excitement is for having warm weather just about all year around. I've heard it does get cold at night but in the day it's warm. This pretty much gives us free range all year around to run outside. (and not lose any fingers or toes) Yay!!!! Plus there are new routes and new moutains to adventure with hiking. I'm not sure of the safety for being outside but hoping for the best.
So, I'm in stressed out mode trying to get everything packed, finding movers that actually go to Lancaster, CA and a place to rent for the first year before we purchase again. We are keeping up our normal 1 hour of exercise but have reduced it to around 4-5 days a week seeing as we have to contact California people during our evenings which is the normal time for the gym. Hopefully after we can find a mover and find a rental, I will be back to posting normal again. So sorry for the lack of posts, I miss scheduling and posting everything on here for accountablity to lose those last pesky 20 lbs. I'll be back definitely after we get internet setup in our new place though for sure. For now it will be here and there as I can...
Anyone know Lancaster, CA? I would love to know anything!

Feeling so much better now! Last week I felt better for a few days and then after working out lightly, my back opened up again and the pain came back. It was very painful and doing too much just aggravated it. After a few days of rest and not working out, I think my back is healing once again. It's the problem with a cyst that has had to be "medically attended", it gets better and then out of the blue it's bad again. My antibiotic round is up and I think they are starting to work. They are supposed to keep working for a few weeks after you finish a round, right? Ha-ha I'm never sick so I have no idea... thank goodness it's over though - no more medicine brain.
So this weekend was a pretty good one. We did get to get out of the house and go to Richmond, VA. So pleasant! It was an easy trip and we didn't rush anything. Just a fun day of grocery shopping, vegan food and some other light shopping. Oh yea and vegan fro-yo!
Breakfast: Looked a lot like this the entire week. Sprinkles were placed on top since they put a smile on my face and let's face it, 2 tsp of sprinkles for a few days isn't going to kill anyone. :) Lots of oatmeal, pineapple and bananas. Last photo is a vegan protein pancake.
Snacks: More bananas, clementines and unsweetend almond milk made with sprinkles, a couple chocolate chips and oats.
Eating Out in Richmond, VA: (Everything shared with DH)
Exercise: Last week was hard for my back and my brain ability to function on prescription medicine for the first time in years. So I didn't get into much. I did try to move around as much as possible without hurting too much. So I call that an accomplishment. This next week I intend on doing more and more to build my back up to handling the stress once again.
Hope you all had a fantastic weekend!

My back is doing much better today so I started to test it a bit more. Maybe this was good and maybe it wasn't, not sure just yet. But, thankfully we did get to the gym today as the weather was positive degrees. Food was a bit off again since my stomach is just fighting me since I'm still on my antibiotics for my back. I'm doing my best though. That's all we can hope for some days, a good attempt at doing the right things.
Breakfast: Raw Meal Protein Powder Pancake. This is protein powder, ground flaxseed, 1/2 banana, unsweetened almond milk and a few vegan chocolate chips. I also used 1/4 tsp Earth Balance Vegan butter and also a little syrup. I'm working on the recipe right now so it's still not perfect looking but it did taste good. :)
Exercise: Walk with the pup outside before it turned negative temperatures. :( 1.25 miles
Snack: Whole Foods Organic Sesame Sticks - oh how you taunt me tasty treat!
Lunch: Steamed broccoli, organic tomato sauce and a chickenless spicy patty (vegan)- Not the best since it has processed patty but at least it was filling and gave protein.
Snack: Some vegan chocolate chips, pineapple and green tea
Exercise: 30 minutes weight lifting & 30 minutes elliptical (only minor back pain)
Dinner: Homemade Vegan Japanese Curry with steamed Korean rice. On top I had some pickled ginger.
Snack: DH made me my favorite flour-less chocolate chip cookies. This are made from oats, ground. He added sprinkles (since they make me happy). They look a bit odd since it was his first time making and forgot to add the sprinkles into the batter instead of on top. But it was so nice of him to make them for me and they were so tasty.
