In many Asian dramas, especially Japanese, the characters go at something hard head on by stating "fighting". Sometimes all we have to do is get our adult panties on and say "fighting" to continue on when things get tough. emoticon "Fighting" (said while placing first in air and a determined look on the face). emoticon

I saw a Y2K comic strip that had laptops with airbags in case of crash. I think of it often as I bang my head against the brick wall. Yet here is another one. I feel with all the banging I should be making progress. Yet 2 wks in--nothing to show except for the way I feel--healthier, more energy, no cravings. I can still fight the main war and find small things to celebrate...Now Back to fighting.

No California For Now

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Oh it's a whirlwind right now in our life, you have probably noticed I have not been online lately. We were supposed to move to Lancaster, California as mentioned in February and we have been getting all prepared to move. We packed everything up, resigned from jobs on a certain date, setup our house lease to end and prepared for the movers to come on a certain date and time. As the date got closer to moving, the new employer for my husband got more and more suspicious in telling us information and assisting with the move from Virginia to California. In the end, we couldn't see the move happening without specific information in order and set in stone. So we chose to end the work contract and not move. Then my husband's current company started laying off people in large groups and of course since he had already resigned they could not reinstate his employment. See, it's a whirlwind...

Right now we have so many mixed opinions about what happened and why. Thankfully we are keeping our faith and trusting in God for instructions on how to move on from here. As two university educated individuals we have never been without work (I still have an online position but only part-time) so this is very different for us. Since it has been a different situation, we chose not to get another contract for a new house rental and came to Michigan to be with family. We thought it was a nice time to reconnect with family members and have a little fun before going to our next state for employment. So while my husband is searching for a different job, we are staying in Michigan while our personal belongings are in storage in Virginia. Sounds strange but it's working and my husband's family is enjoying us being here for now since we haven't lived in Michigan for over ten years.

So now you are all updated. It's been a crazy life lately so now that we are finally getting into a little bit of a routine, I can finally have the gumption to write this and put it out there. I know unemployment happens to everyone but seeing as it was partially our choice and seeing as we are highly educated, it is a bit embarrassing. It shouldn't be but it still is... but humility is part of life I guess.

On to happier things. Lately DH and I have been getting into some running outside and enjoying the nice weather (minus the snow fall last night). Pup walks are a great way to get out in the sun and also we are staying on a lake so we just starting up the kayaking. We do not have a gym here but we hope to get some home workouts done once we find a large enough space to do it. emoticon

Okay all updated - wish it would be a happier message but hopefully soon it will be... emoticon

That is really strange about the CA employer (passive-aggressively!) backing out of helping you guys move over there. Good luck with the new job search and the transition to wherever it is you'll end up! I'm starting to empathize with you and your husband about the unemployed life soon enough (just got my last paycheck in grad school and still need to defend, finish writing thesis, and submit before I can commit to searching for jobs).

Wishing you both all the best! It'll work out in the end. :)

Lancaster, CA!

We're Moving!!!!

For a few weeks I have been absent since DH and I have been planning and getting everything together for his new job. He has secretly been applying for positions and he got one of the first ones he applied. He had a few offers but he choice the one that he really wanted - in the High Desert! We're born/raised Michigan folk, turned Indiana for college, turned Illinois, turned Ohio, turned Virginia. Now we are going to move to the desert, an adventure! DH has been to our future destination however I have never been even close to the area (I'm beyond freaked and stressed). Our destination: Lancaster, California! It's about an hour or so to LA (supposedly). If you are from this area, or know it, please please please contact me! I would love to know someone from the area.

We have just about 2.5 weeks now until we move. So far we don't have movers and do not have a place to live. Oh no... haha It's hard to actually find a rental when one doesn't live in the same area. Apparently there are some people that scam others by saying they are from out-of-state or something like that so now some people require renters to come in person... bo boo... We're chugging along hoping for the best.

My excitement is for having warm weather just about all year around. I've heard it does get cold at night but in the day it's warm. This pretty much gives us free range all year around to run outside. (and not lose any fingers or toes) Yay!!!! Plus there are new routes and new moutains to adventure with hiking. I'm not sure of the safety for being outside but hoping for the best.

So, I'm in stressed out mode trying to get everything packed, finding movers that actually go to Lancaster, CA and a place to rent for the first year before we purchase again. We are keeping up our normal 1 hour of exercise but have reduced it to around 4-5 days a week seeing as we have to contact California people during our evenings which is the normal time for the gym. Hopefully after we can find a mover and find a rental, I will be back to posting normal again. So sorry for the lack of posts, I miss scheduling and posting everything on here for accountablity to lose those last pesky 20 lbs. I'll be back definitely after we get internet setup in our new place though for sure. For now it will be here and there as I can...

Anyone know Lancaster, CA? I would love to know anything!

I've lived in Lancaster most of my life. Moved from NY. I agree with SUSIEQ222. And I'll just add a few things to help you get your barrings.

If you are looking for things to do, like hiking The City and Chamber of Commerce have a Travel and Convention Bureau that could help you out: http://www.destinationlancasterca.o

The City recently redeveloped it's downtown . This is a great place to meet local business owners and relax. I also highly recommend looking for houses nearby. I live downtown and it is a great place to live. Full disclosure, if I was really concerned about school districts I might consider looking more west, i.e Quartz Hill, Del Sur, Rancho Vista...

The City also has a list of places to worship:

I know that many aerospace people and engineers attend Central Christian. So if your spouse's job is in aerospace that might be a good place to meet like-minded people.

I have lived in the Lancaster/Palmdale area for almost 30 years. I work at Edwards AFB. I have never lived on that side of the country, but I can probably guess that living in the Mojave Desert will be quite a change. It can be really hot in the summer and sometimes gets pretty cold in the winter. Not this winter, though, we have had near perfect weather for months. The most negative thing about the weather is the wind! It blows alot! If you have any questions, just ask and I will try to answer them best I can. Good luck on your move!

1/27/14 Food/Exercise

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Today we finally made it back to the gym after being out again for my back. My incision seems to have closed but when I stretch it too much, it breaks open again. My doctor said it was okay to workout, so I am listening to her and hoping it heals okay. Patience isn't my strongest attribute to the world. ha-ha Another nice feature was when we woke up, the temperature was around 40 and then rose to 54F just before lunch. It declined drastically after lunch going close to negative numbers but Furry Baby and I got out for a nice long walk - a true blessing this time of the year. I found myself sighing a lot throughout the walk since it just felt so good! Anyone else get out that hasn't been able to?

Breakfast: Oatmeal with added flaxseeds & 1 tsp brown sugar, coffee and vegan multivitamins - nothing too exciting here.

Exercise: Walk with the furry pup 1.38 miles in around 40 minutes.

Snack: None since I was really busy and lost track of time. I did have a nice cup of green tea.

Lunch: Leftover cauliflower and 'chez' with lots of peas... mmm

Snack: Sesame sticks - grrr so addicting

Dinner: Homemade Australian Vegan Sausage Rolls (no sausage inside) with side of brussels sprouts, onion and celery seasoned with coconut balsalmic vinaigrette.

Snack: Chinese plantain strips cooked with sugar

Exercise: Tonight we made it through the cold to the gym. We did 30 minutes weight lifting with breaks in between sets. During breaks I did 30 situps each time on the exercise ball. Then I did 1 mile in 10 minutes on the treadmill (just testing my back pain level) and then 20 minutes on the elliptical trainer. My back ended up breaking open again but it didn't seem to hurt too much. Yay! Nice to be back into it.
