And it all comes crumbling down...

Today was a big day for me emotionally. I had my followup appt with my oral surgeon down at vanderbilt. We talked about my current state of affairs, and my next surgery. I can't go into everything right now, because I'm over an hour past my bedtime... but tomorrow hopefully I'll get to catch up.

Suffice it to say-I allowed myself (aka I made the conscious decision to break my Paleo fast) to eat an okay slice of whole foods pizza (who would have thought asparagus wasn't that awesome on pizza), and 4 mini tarts. Then once I got home a billion hours later since we pit-stopped at the Sims House... a small bowl of-- you betcha, kettlecorn and pb m&ms.

Let's just say, I'm glad I did 1.5mi run this morning and Ripped Week 1 (day 2). I'm sure tomorrow's scale won't be too happy... but. Oh well.

I was reminded that God isn't a magic genie, and a humble conviction that when I wandered, He never left my side.

You're doing fine. Just being human, and getting used to this paleo thing must be quite a challenge (although I support you whole-heartedly, of course!)
Sometimes you gotta just give in a little, as you know. Tomorrow is another day. And it could've been much worse, as you also know!
Hang in there. At least you didn't mention crab rangoons so I'd have to crave the mystery food again -
And yes, God never does leave our sides, although sometimes we can stop listening so He seems far away.

    This happens a lot when you are making a major life change by being committed to healthy eating and exercise. The old ways start to try to creep back into your life and take control! You have to be firm with them and when they do start to reappear you need to return again to healthy eating and exercising. I am confident that you can do it. Remember that you are doing what is good for your body and what you know is right.

With Loren Cordain's Level I of the Paleo Diet, you are allowed three free meals a week when you can eat anything you want. Cordain says, "There is great potential for abuse here, and you should do your best to avoid it. Do not consider these Open Meals as your chance to pig out on forbidden foods." You might do well to plan these Open Meals, so you don't feel deprived.

If you do not have Loren Cordain's book, "The Paleo Diet," I highly recommend that you get it. The new revised edition that just came out in 2011 has a few changes to update the diet to new nutritional discoveries.

Good luck with your sparking and keep those blogs coming. I am encouraged by your blogs and your comments.

    Sounds like we're on the same boat at the moment, lady. And, Whole Foods pizza is fricking amazing! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Every time the hubs and I go, we have to split a slice.... anyhow... now I know what I am going to cheat with instead of chinese food this weekend... yay. :-)
I hope your appointment went well, and it's weird that even though you are in a different time zone, our uterus' are sync'd up.... we'll get through it though and back on track next week, I'm sure.

Sometimes I have to realize that I *can't* do it all. And when I can, it's only because of Jesus.

Seriously. I had high hopes for today, until driving home (got off at 3 because I was at the weather station that's a pro, the con is no morning workout). I remembered that I had to drive down to Nashville tomorrow for an appointment, and my car's "Check Engine" light was on. So I drove to Jiffy (after calling and they said it'd be about 10 minutes) to get my oil changed. Thirty minutes later it's done, and this nice young man gave me a a $10 off coupon.

Headed home, in hopes to at least get Ripped in 30 done before I had to pick up the kid before 5:30. Literally, I finished part of the cooldown when my "go pick up the kid" alarm went off. AMEN! 431 calories later... I was driving to get the kid. I was dreaming of a treadmill workout to make up the rest of the 60minutes I needed for the day (Ripped was about 32 minutes)... but by the time I got the kid home, and fed him, and started cleaning (my house seriously needs it!)... I realized, *I* needed to eat... and I might not get the treadmill workout in after all.

So, it's about 1.5hrs before bedtime, I'm going to see if I can get the kid down before I go down (he's got bags under his eyes poor guy!) and I need to prep lunch for tomorrow. Will need to bring some good snacks, I've got my appt at 1pm...

Even if I don't get to finish my 60minutes, I'm still proud of today. Because even though I really want to beat my girl Salbatross (whom we ironically are both being visited by aunt flo AND weighed in at 162.8 over the weekend)-- I can't do it all.

*Sleep: 7.5-that first day of the week is always rough trying to get back into the groove of things
*90/10 : Mostly yes. Cheese on salad, one could argue my seaweed is not paleo (there's something random in there, I'm not sure it's "gluten free" cause of the flavoring). Right now, fighting the kettlecorn + pb m&ms craving, as well as my crab rangoon dip. BUT I have to remember that I made my dip for crab rangoon because I weighed the choices and consequences. It wasn't a "treat." Food is not a reward (I'm working on this thought :P)
*60 minutes: not yet (32 thus far)
*Salad: Yup, another BLT breakfast salad
*50SP pts: (83 so far-- you guys thing 50pts was too little a goal for me? Should I amp it up to 75?)

Alrighty Sparkers... keep it up! Remember, every moment is a new opportunity to make a healthy choice!!

PS-I am SOOO glad I stayed strong working at the weather station today. My coworker had chips and a sandwich, it smelled so yummy. AND whenever I work the wx station, I normally eat LOTS of junk food I buy from the snack fund... like chips, and little debbie stuff... NOT TODAY!

Oh boi am I glad that today went much better than yesterday!

I didn't get to work out before church like I intended to last night (thanks to late bedtime)... so I just woke up after 8hrs and made some yummy bacon!! To make a small salad for breakfast. Apple, blue cheese, spinach, bacon, avocado, and tomatoes! Like a BLT salad. *ah-mazing!

After church went to Aldi to check out the produce (got some oranges), then headed to the commissary to get the real goods... amazing, I hardly get out of there with less than $100 of stuff. Bought some delicious canned crab, wild caught salmon, and shrimp.

While I was hoping the kid would nap afterwards... I made my own twist on crab rangoons. 2oz of crab and 2oz of reduced fat cream cheese (could have been 1oz, now I know for next time), with my favorite sweet chili sauce and sweet potato chips- awesome craving killer, and way better than the ones from No. 1 Chinese. :) After about an hour and the kid not sleeping, I finally headed out with the jogging stroller to go on some walk/jog intervals. Did 3.1 miles and afterwards finally got some hutzpa to finally try No More Trouble Zones. Woah man, what a killer! Tomorrow I start Ripped in 30 with my friend Marilyn... I'll let you know how that goes.

After a shower, I started doing the weekly cooking, still have leftover beef stew and pork/bison spaghetti sauce... so I made some meatloaf (with grass fed beef!) AND got to play with my new cuisinart food processor... AMAZING! and I got to make chicken picatta. AWESOME! I love chicken piccata, there was a restaurant back in Hawaii that I would go to, and just get their fish piccata with sauteed veggies... nom nom nom, now I can do it at home! Seriously, new fav.

Think that's it. Time to get ready for bed. Early day tomorrow, working at the weather station, gotta be there by 6:45! :/ BUT I get off at 3pm :D

OH! I forgot...
90/10: meh, more like 80/20 with the cream cheese and the sweet chili sauce. Also means that no sweets thing got thrown off with the sauce. Meh, back on tomorrow, unless TOM cravings take over.

Gee whiz - all this talk of crab rangoons makes me want to eat them and I had NO idea until tonight what they were - even at all! Now I kind of get the gist. Maybe you'll post a pic of them one day so I could satisfy my curiosity?!

Today started off pretty well, finally rolled out of bed around 7:45am (a nice contrast to the 5:20 during the week) and got out of the house around 8:45 to head down to the Franklin Farmer's Market. I didn't quite know what to expect, but I took out $100 cash just in case. I was pleasantly surprised by the vendors considering it was in the beginning of January (although today was warm, around 55* or so). Some honey people, apple cider people, donuts, and of course vegetables and MEAT!

After making a few laps, and thinking about what was already in my fridge.. I went ahead and got 4lbs of ground grass fed beef, 2lbs beef stew meat, 1pkg (4 long links) of sweet Italian sausage, and 2 Ribeye steaks... oh yes, and 4lbs of chicken breasts. It's the same price as Whole Foods, ($7.99/lb), but you know... it feels kinda cool getting stuff from a Farmer's Market.

Then we headed to VS where I was gonna take full advantage of the Semi-Annual sale (the next one occurs around my birthday... ah*hem ;P) and I had a $10 off a $50 purchase or more. Grabbed 2 favorite bras, which conveniently were $25/each! Walked out pretty stoked. Wandered around Dillards and got these two fantastic silicone mini-handles... they look like sock puppets. I like them. They were on clearance, so it was like $15 for two.

Was pretty hungry, but thinking that I needed to head home... thought I could fight it (I brought some chicken, cut apple and a boiled egg--but that wasn't enough for lunch too). So I stopped in Fresh Market or something, since it was closer... and got a lemon pepper salmon fillet and a slice of watermelon. Nom Nom Nom. I also found some unsweetened coconut flakes. I didn't try it (no dried fruit), but I was glad I finally found some for some Every Day Paleo recipes.

Kept falling asleep on the way home, thankfully made it home safe (pulled over once to catch a break)... the kid was sleeping so I put him down...and opted to join him for a nap. About an hour later got up, and was going to work out, but I was supposed to skype with my mom fairly soon (enough that I couldn't really work out like I wanted to)... so I was like, "Well I'll cook some" until I realized I didn't have garlic or onion that I needed for my chicken picatta... Pfft. Thought I could swing a commissary trip after my skype call.... but it didn't go as well as planned... so yeah.

I'm just kinda bummed right now. No workout. About 1150 cals today...BUT I feel a little better after showering, and after eating two pieces of bacon. :D

Thinking of getting a morning workout before church...
Goals: no salad :( / nor no veggies with every meal
90/10 Paleo: actually 100% Paleo today... no cheese

Ha... that was our theme song when I went to training for 2 months at Keesler AFB, MS.


PHEW. Glad that week is over!! And needless to say I was driving home thinking about all the great things I'd do relaxing...and then it hit me. POOP! I have a 4yr old bday party to attend, and a present to buy. :/ Of course I remember this AFTER I have already picked up my kid from childcare.

So I went home, ATE yummy food (pork sausage bison spaghetti sauce) with some green olives and sweet potato chips... and an apple. Then wrapped the kid up and went out to Walmart before heading to the party. Man, I'm sure glad I ate, cause there was *nothing* paleo at that party. Healthiest thing was chili, and I'm glad my kid ate a bowl and a half of that! Instead of this one toddler (probably 18months) was walking around with either a rice krispie treat in his hand or a cake ball. Guess I learned something from Wed night-be prepared. Eat. (I brought the apple with me, but ate in the car).

Wrap up of the day, my fitness wasn't quite where I wanted it. I have to say I stepped on the scale this morning (yes, I'm one of *those* twice a day weighers), and despite that "time of the month" is coming after Sunday.. the scale was the lowest it's been in months. I was quite surprised. Then I had my boiled egg, and tried to run this morning cause my boss said, "Oh, just do 20min cardio, and we'll go to Denny's for breakfast." x_x

I needed to add miles for my mileage tracker, so I knew I'd do 1.5mi timed, and then an extra .6mi lap since I only had time for that. Sadly my 1.5mi time was super slow... I wasn't impressed. I definitely need to work on my speed... and my shins hurt... I'm thinking it's time to pick up Ct5K again, just halfway through it or something.

Then into Denny's... MAN OH MAN. It's a lot different when I go into Denny's as a "strict" Paleo person than the last time. So I ordered a cup of fresh fruit, and 2pcs of bacon. There were comments...but, meh. I've made a decision.

Which brings me to the next thing in the day, working out after work (we were released early). I was so excited to try my kettlebell JM dvd, but it wouldn't work in my laptop. Neither would my Banish Fat Boost Metabolism, or my No More Trouble Zones. Make me suspicious because ALL other JM dvds work in my laptop, and those three were purchased together off ebay. :/ I emailed the seller tonight to ask about it.

So I did the biggest loser power sculpt, just the 20min JM part with warmup and cooldown. MEH, it was okay. Then I tried to do yoga... and I just... couldn't... do it. I don't know. I felt so weak, so not focused, defeated. I just stopped halfway through. My body was sore from the power sculpt, and my back hurt from trying to mop the bathroom in the other building (it was our turn to clean it, and I was the only female at work at the time).

Driving home I was just thinking how much I wanted crab rangoons. And why my "TOM" was coming sooner (I've been spotting this week)--sorry TMI I know. And then, I was just like.. WHY. Why am I doing this? Why am I torturing myself? What happened to the "everything in moderation" Brendark? Maybe it's because that brendark hardly got results. I know a majority of that weight loss since Christmas has been that "junk food cleanse" part. Cause seriously, who drops that kind of weight? Except someone who has a lot of crap to lose. Literally- crap in your body (not poo, but junk stuff). I dunno.

I survived the crab rangoons craving... I think a part of me wants the cream cheese with the sweet chili sauce.

I gotta get to bed. Tomorrow I'm driving like an hour to go to a farmers market, cause quite possibly it might be the only one open in the winter.

90/10 - blue cheese on salad. One could argue sweet potato chips are not paleo... but to me, they are.

    Congratulations on a week of which you can be proud of your healthy eating and exercise! I find that stretching after exercise helps a lot to prevent delayed muscle soreness. I have a regimen of stretches that I do first thing in the morning. They are static stretches similar to yoga, but less challenging. Some of them I got from my physical therapist. I always feel great after stretching! Flexibility is an important part of fitness that is often overlooked.

    It was a great week for you, and lovely that you could reflect on the whole "why" and "everything in moderation" stuff. No matter what, being aware gives us the opportunity for the best choices for ourselves along the way.
Bless you for surviving the 4 yr old party after your long week - boy, do I remember those days w/ my little guy!
Have a safe and fun trip to the farmers' market, and a great weekend.
