The maintenance man, John and his 'helper' Mike, came and replaced the overhead hanging lamp in my dining area yesterday. What a difference! This one gives out so much more light and I can actually see to read. I found out they had new lamps available so I wrote up a work order. Now Joice down the hall wants one so I helped her fill out her work order last night. I hate the dark days and need a lot of light Plus my sewing machine is where a table should be so I can see to sew a lot easier now. I sold my table shortly after I moved here because of I have a small chest freezer and that is more useful than a table. I can go downstairs and sit at a table if I want to. These apartments are tiny. I have a small fold up table for crafts.
I bought a laptop cart at Staples the other day so I got it put together yesterday then took the box down to the dumpster and people were in the community room playing cards and visiting so I stayed down there until after ten. We had a great time visiting. Then I come home and have five phone messages from my friend freaking out because she can't get a hold of me. She ought to know that if I had a problem she would be the first to know. She never really wants anything anyway, just to catch me up on the gossip where I used to live. Well, she already told me the night before for two hours. Anyway, I didn't call her back because I didn't feel like talking to her so I went to bed and read for a while.
Yesterday was the Secret Santa gift exchange so I went down for that. I didn't do the gift exchange because I didn't want anything, I have too much stuff as it is. I just wanted to be there when we presented our manager with her Christmas card and money gift. Before the party started I took the office staff some of my handmade doll dress potholders and dishcloths and they were thrilled. I like to give but don't like to receive. Just one of my quirks. They had two huge five layer chocolate cakes and ice cream. Yum!! My scale didn't budge this morning so I was happy about that. Joice ran out of Christmas cards so I gave her enough to finish handing them out here.
A few residents will go away for the holidays but most of us will be here. There is a potluck Christmas day so I need to decide what to make. Management will no doubt buy us a turkey or ham.
I got most of my Christmas cards mailed yesterday, just a few more to do and that will be done.
There is a craft class and lunch today at our sister apartment complex so I guess I'll go and see what it is all about. We're going to take the bus that is provided for trips. It is just across town. We are going to do Christmas crafts so it should be fun. I know one person there from my old apartment but I doubt he will be doing crafts but he might show up for lunch.
It's not going to rain today and will be in the upper 30's, maybe low 40's so it will be a gooc day.
Today is the annual Christmas Tea here but I chose not to go. I guess it is a big event here for most of the ladies where they all dress up in their finest but it is not my 'thing'. I guess they get written up in the local newspaper. They will decorate the tables and use their finest china and eat lots of sweets and tiny sandwiches. Again, not my 'thing'. Nothing healthy on their menu that I would eat. Call me a Scrooge if you want but it is an event that I cannot attend. I am happier staying home. I will do my Christmas cards today and then work on the purse orders.
Yesterday I went shopping with Sam downstairs. She needed to buy fabric for a baby blanket so I took her to my friend's quilt shop and she helped us pick out the fabric and even gave Sam a 20% discount. She is also going to see if she can order the pattern for a purse that my friend made and gave me for Christmas a few years ago. I asked her if she would loan me the pattern, but no, she wouldn't. Maybe she isn't such a good friend? LoL Anyway, the purse is really neat. The body is like a gym bag with all kinds of pockets inside, then it folds up to a purse with more pockets on the outside. It can be carried as a backpack too. I want to make it in denim.. I guess it is a difficult pattern, but I have time to figure it out.
I finally got the new zipper put in the sweat jacket. What an ordeal! I took one side off so I could see how to put it in but didn't really pay attention and after I got it sewn in, I realized my mistake. So I ripped it out and got it in the right way. So, then I took out the other side and pinned the new side in..............then I couldn't get the new zipper to close and was wondering what in the world was wrong! Upon further investigation I found that it was a double close zipper (works from the bottom or top to undo either end for more comfort). Then when I brought the second zipper pull down, it worked! DUH!!!!!!!!!!! I never bothered to look at the tag I took off the zipper other than to read that it was for a parka. The other problem I encountered is the zipper was two inches shorter but was able to make it fit after a few adjustments. So after four or five hours, the zipper was in and the bottom of the jacket was the same instead of being lopsided.
I don't plan on replacing another zipper that size unless it is for me because I would have to charge double what I did to do this one. Ideally, it should have taken me no longer than about an hour. Another learning experience. LoL
It was 28` and sunny when I finally rolled out of bed at 8 this morning.. I woke up at 3 but was able to go back to sleep. Some nights I'm not that lucky.
It's been a while since I made a blog entry but nothing much has been going on other than I missed the Holiday craft sale at my old place last Saturday. I completely spaced over it as I was watching movies all day and didn't remember the sale until Sunday afternoon. They had lots of vendors and lots of shoppers so they did well. I didn't need to go to buy anything but it would have been nice to be able to see everyone.
Yesterday I went to the butcher shop and got 5 # of the medium ground beef, 2 # of sausage, 6 pork chops and a package of chicken legs so today I will divide it all up into serving size portions and freeze it. I don't eat a lot of meat these days so what I just bought and what I have in the freezer will last me through the winter.
I got another small sewing job yesterday to shorten sleeves on two tops for a lady parapalegic. I will probably just do it for her with no charge and tell her Merry Christmas. It won't take very long to do them, just cut off the excess, turn a hem and stitch. She likes to wear long sleeves but they are all too long. I have the same problem but just push them up. She is bedridden.
I still have a few small purses to make so I need to get busy and do them instead of sitting here thinking about doing them. They want them for Christmas. Plus I have to do Christmas cards. I hate it when I keep procrastinating! LoL
