Food Bank Today

Friday, August 05, 2011

I went to the Food Bank this afternoon, then stopped at my friend's to give her things I can't/don't eat. She and her husband were happy plus another friend was there and she needed the 5# of sugar. A bag of sugar lasts me well over a year if I am not baking. That is seldom anymore. They were having a garage sale so I bought a sheet set for my daybed that I sleep on.

I got the oil changed in my Jeep and made an appointment for Tuesday to do the transmission oil change, then I will be ready for winter. Stopped at the gas station and filled up my tank, then on to the Grocery Outlet and got a lot of good buys. So I had a productive, busy day.

The Seafair races (hydroplanes) is this weekend so I plan on camping in front of my tv and watching the races and the Blue Angels.

Our weather continues to be cooler than normal while the East is sweltering.

I hope everyone has a good weekend and stays hydrated.

Garage Sale

Saturday, July 30, 2011

Yesterday there was an impromptu garage sale down in the community room. Ruth and a couple other ladies decided to sort out the storage room and price things for the Fall Garage Sale coming up. I went down to see if the washing machines were empty and found them all there selling stuff and putting price stickers on everything. I got a little metal three shelf metal cart on wheels about two and a half feet tall for $1.50, a wooden side table that holds magazines or whatever for $2.00. It is 17" x 18" x 8" and the top swivels. It looks like a homemade job. The wood is just a lighter shade than my desk and it fits perfect beside my recliner chair. It is just what I have been looking for. Cute. Also a two cup+ metal saucepan, the old blue w/white speckles, like the roasting pans, for .75 . The metal shelf needs a good scrubbing. I think most of the stuff belonged the previous resident. I also got a bottle of glue and a mineature German beer stein. I spent a total of $5.50. Big spender. Then I came home and had dinner and went back down and helped box everything up and back into the storage room. They sold $150 in just a couple of hours to residents and caregivers.

The sun is out but it isn.t going to be much over 70.

It's the Weekend Again

Friday, July 29, 2011

It seems like every time I turn around it's the weekend again. I haven't done much all week other than play Jewel Quest and watch TV. Oh, yes, I took my neighbor to the train depot Tuesday afternoon and got a few groceries on the way home.

Our weather remains cool and temp's are not going to get much over the mid-70's the rest of the summer. Of course, that could change at any time. I like the cool days so I don't mind. We will get some rain today.

The burn on my finger is really ugly but healing. Skin is all peeling but the redness is going away. Finally able to wash my dishes and not have my finger sting so much.

I hope everyone gets rain/cool temp's and has a good weekend.

Summer is Finally Here

Sunday, July 24, 2011

Summer came today and I'm going to BBQ at my former neighbors house this afternoon. Just three of us. Hamburgers, sausage, mac salad and whatever else. Allen grills half peaches with some sort of sweetner drizzled over the top with a scoop of ice cream. Yum! He's diabetic so I know the food will be healthy. I bought the peaches yesterday so they are in the car in a brown bag to ripen a little more. I hope they don't cook in the heat. LOL

I've been visiting at my old complex two days in a row and got all my purses delivered. Friday I brought home my friend's slacks to fix the hem so she can wear them tomorrow when she goes for lazer surgery so I had to return them yesterday. We all had a nice visit. I took an apple with me that I ate for lunch.

Since I moved here I get out more than I ever have before. I actually have to leave the building to go see friends so I have the best of both worlds. A smaller, cheaper apartment with air conditioning and more activity.

My left eye is very sore. A stye is developing. I used eye wash yesterday and then when I woke up this morning it was all crusty so I put some stye meds on it and it is feeling a little better. I'm brewing tea at the moment and will put the bags in the frig to cool and use them for compresses. Put the tea in a pitcher to drink this afternoon. The tanic acid in the tea draws out the infection. It has been a long time since I've had a stye. I hate them.

I'm hearing the heatwave is starting to break now. What a relief for everyone. I do not like it hot. Around 70 suits me fine, that's why I like it here in WA State. We are the Evergreen State because we get so much rain.

Have good week.

I live in Arlington and we do have AC but today was the first day we turned it on. Looks like the heat will be here all week. That is good as we will be in the fall like weather soon. Take care of your eye. Sandy

You are right, Brenda -- my sister lives in Marysville and her home has no air conditioning. And believe me, there are days that she needs it!

Of course your heat is nothing like we have here in Arizona. I hate going to Phoenix for 2 days, but you do what you have to do.

It is so nice that you have so many friends to go visit, it's what keeps us alert and alive!

$13.00 Bookshelf

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

After much trial and error, putting together, taking apart, two blood blisters and a bruised hand from using it for a hammer, the bookshelf was put together. Too bad I didn't have an 8 year old to help me read the instructions because they were sure confusing! LOL So I finally get it assembled, turn it right side and I had put the sides on upside down so that the finished ends were on the floor. Oh well, it works. I just bought a new black marker and stained the wood so unless I point out my mistake, no one will notice unless they really inspect it. Am thinking about getting another one while they are on sale through next Saturday. They are made from particle board but will work for what I need to use them for. They will hold about a hundred pounds without collapsing.

I bought a cordless two set phone so got that programmed this morning so I will donate my old corded phones. They take up too much room and I don't like being tied to the cord, especially when my long-winded friend calls me.

Our weather continues to be cooler than normal. So far this year we have had 78 minutes of summer, which means temperatures over 80. That is fine with me because I like it around 70. I can't imagine dealing with the extreme heat that is happening across the country. I hope everyone is drinking their water and staying hydrated.

yes the direction are time you'll know how and sometimes if the item goes on sale a week or two later they will refund the difference...try putting some elmers glue in the holes this will make it a little strong and it does help...the weather here is and the humidity was so-so. this weekend it is supposed to be in the ninety' was actually the semi-coolest day so far.
hope you stay warm and i am glad it is not too hot for you.

Brenda, I need an inexpensive bookcase for my classroom. I bought some $15 ones at Walmart last year and Dave put them together. I was thinking the other day that since I don't have my 'handyman' around any more that I'd have to get one of my boys to do it if I bought one. Too bad you don't live closer, lol. Good for you, doing it yourself. Even Dave has put the wrong ends together before---he never read directions!

We've had extreme summer since early May. I'll trade temps with you for a few days.
