Sore Back

Saturday, June 11, 2011

Well, I thought my back was feeling better but it's not after I moved more boxes around this afternoon and emptied a couple. I can't stand the boxes all over the place and I want them gone. I am making some headway, tho. I just have too much stuff. I have another big bag of clothes to donate and I took a few bags of stuffing for crafts down to the free table downstairs. All the sheets and placemats and stuff I put there yesterday are gone so someone is getting use of them. I have too much fabric and yarn but I want to keep most of it.

My friend emailed me and said she had a pretty good day with her yardsale today. Tomorrow will be better, being Saturday plus it is going to be around 70. I wish I could have taken my stuff over to sell but I'll just wait for her next one.

I really do like it here and I am not sad at all about leaving the other place. It is still a zoo there and I am glad to be out of it all. There's lots to do here if I choose to join in. That will have to wait until I get settled.

I have lost 7 pounds moving and I can tell the difference in how my clothes fit. I have lost over an inch around.

Have a good weekend and stay hydrated.

Gettin' Settled

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

Things are getting a little more organized everyday, at least I can see the middle of the living room now and the kitchen is pretty much organized to my way of cooking. There is a path to the bed and bathroom.

Yesterday I went to my insurance agent's office and paid my car insurance, changed my address and got renter's insurance so I am set for now. On the way home I stopped at the produce stand and stocked up on salad fixings and fruit so I can eat healthier now. Moving is not condusive to healthy eating. I hate eating out--it is expensive and bad for me.

Last night I finally figured out how to hook up to the free wireless high speed internet so that is good. Maybe next week I'll call Comcast and hook up the TV for basic cable. I heard it is around $16 a month as opposed to $29 at the old place. But first I am thinking about getting a flat screen TV because I gave away the huge heavy one before I moved. I think the color was going out. I have a 15" TV now and it looks so tiny in here. It is behind a bunch of boxes right now.

It's overcast, cloudy, and muggy today, around 60`. The window at the end of the hall is open so I have my door and window's open so there is a breeze coming through. Each apartment has a built in air conditioner so that is a nice extra. No microwave or dishwasher. I was able to buy the microwave that belonged to the previous tenant. It's a small one but probably all I will need because I really don't cook in them. The laundry room is on the first floor. $1 to wash and a$1 to dry.

So I will try to blog more in the next few days. I just wish I could snap my fingers and all this stuff would be put away. LOL

I hope you all are drinking your water.

Still Packing

Monday, May 23, 2011

I wasn't able to get ahold of the manager today to see if I could get the key so I will try again tomorrow. This place is getting to be wall to wall boxes. I thought her voice mail on Friday said she would be gone for the weekend and back on Monday. The voice mail message was changed today. Oh well, I'll just keep sorting and packing. The kitchen is pretty much finished. Just leaving out a few dishes and utinsels to use. I won't be doing a lot of cooking, just heating up because both freezers are pretty full.

We had a huge storm that moved through this afternoon with heavy hail, rain and winds. I was outside under the carport talking to my mechanic when it started. It was raining so hard there were small rivers flowing down the driveway and the noise was deafening. Jim and I were waiting for it to let up. I found two umbrellas in the car so we waited until a little lull and got down the hill to the garage and it stopped raining and the sun came out. Crazy. I'm sure people driving had to pull over because the wipers couldn't have worked fast enough to see through the windshield.

One of the least liked things to do in my life is packing up and moving, I am in the process of moving and I hate every minute of it. I am making progress though.

movig is exciting. I know you hate to leave your friends there, but you can visit the social room now and then and you'll make new friends at the new place.

Packing Like Crazy

Friday, May 20, 2011

Wow, my official move in is June 1st. Yikes!! Yes, I got the apartment because I was at the right place at the right time. The 90 year old lady who lived there died and another man was going to rent the place. I went there Monday to get an application and get on the waiting list. Tuesday I took the paper work back and the man was in the office cancelling. That put me right at the top of the list because people who pay more than 50% of their income for rent get priority. Well, I pay about 90% here!! Anyway, I had all the necessary ID's and papers in my purse to fill out the incidentals so within about a half an hour I was approved except for the background check. I barely got back here and told the manager I was moving when the faxes started coming here.

Yesterday morning I got the call that my background check was approved and the new carpeting was being picked up and they are painting today. I can start moving boxes in tomorrow probably. I found a load of boxes in the trash room yesterday from new tenants who just moved in. Everything is coming up roses!

And yes, I am taking care of myself and eating a good breakfast to get me going. Yesterday I couldn't focus but I did manage to get a few boxes packed. Judy came and took all my planter boxes from my balcony. No balcony's at the new place but I can have a garden spot.

The new place houses 39 people. Rent is 30 % of income so my rent is $189 plus about $20 a month for electricity. No dishwasher. disposal or microwave nor washer and dryer. No big deal!! I bought the microwave the previous owner had. There is a pantry in the kitchen, linen closet in the bathroom, two closets plus a storage closet. One bedroom. Air conditioner in each unit. So I am sending half of my furniture to auction. Really downsizing this time and it is feeling 'freeing', as you said, Karen. The laundry room is on the first floor. I am on the third floor. There is an elevator and three sets of stairs.

The shopping district is a few blocks away. Lovely sidewalks to walk on!!

Currently there are six people in the process of moving out of here since the huge rent increase the first of May. Many more to follow. I think they just priced themselves out of the market. Our area is really depressed with 14% unemployment. There is a new place being built down the street to house 100 seniors so people are watching that to see what it will cost. There are several low rent Senior Housing in the area but waiting lists are long. That's why I was so very fortunate to get mine. Nothing like this ever happens to me.

My horoscope yesterday said: "If you look down and see red shoes on your feet, click your heels together three times several times a day and your dreams will come true"!!. Well, I looked down and my shoes were gray but clicked the heels together anyway. LOL I still think I am dreaming all this.

All I can say at this point is it has been a great ride living here and I will be sad to leave but I have to do what I have to do. No one will do it for me. It is a great workout packing.

More to follow as I have time. Oh yes, I get free high speed internet. WOO!WOO!
I have to pay for my own cable but I probably won't hook it up. There is a TV in the social room downstairs and I have two friends living there from here. Joyce used to live on the first floor. The new manager gave me her phone number yesterday morning so I called her and she is estatic!!

Off to my new adventure!!

Wow it sounds fabulous. I'm sure you'll feel right at home there. It's amazing how you made the decision to move then bang, it's happening. Be careful with the packing and moving, don't hurt yourself. I hope since you've helped so many people there that some will help you move.

Wow, were you lucky! I don't know where you live but I am trying to find my mom an apt to rent, too. I am having no luck, they are all too erxpensive and all the ones based on income have 12+ months waiting lists. She receives only a small SS check each month and just can't afford what even the lower range apts are charging. Glad for you! Enjoy your new place :)

Busy Days

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Yesterday was a very busy day, packing, helping with the monthly birthday party, then taking Jim to the hospital because his potassium level was very high. He had gone to the doctor in the morning then his doctor called him and told him to get to the hospital because he could have a stroke. He was admitted finally, so Beth and I came home and I went to Richard's to get his apartment key because he is leaving on vacation this morning and I am in charge of his cat. I no sooner got back to my place when Beth was back, saying that Jim had been discharged. So back to pick him up. He was taking too much potassium so they told him not to take any more until Monday. Then I spent the rest of the evening packing.

Today I need to find out my move in day so I can tell the manager here. I couldn't get a hold of the manager at the new place yesterday. This still sounds too good to be true.

So much to do, so little time but I will get it done.
