President's Day Holiday

Monday, February 21, 2011

Well, it is pretty quiet here today. I hear that we may get some snow tonight and for the next few days with very cold weather so I went grocery shopping for fresh stuff. Any snow we get will not amount to much but the streets will get icy.

I have a pot of vegetable beef soup cooking in the slow cooker but it won't be done until tomorrow, probably. This is good soup weather. I was going to make chicken soup but changed my mind in mid-stream.

The prospect of the government shutting down March 4th is very scary. No one will get their SS checks or anything else, no mail delivery. Government employees will not be working. I have my check automatically deposited on the 3rd of the month. Oh well, I won't worry about it until it actually happens. I have enough set aside that I could pay my rent for three months and maybe my phone and light bills.

I hope everyone in the snowstorm's path stay safe and warm.

It is doing something now. We are expected 4-8 inches by 7 am. I had a full day of school as well.

Just Another Day at the Funny Farm

Friday, February 18, 2011

I spent the whole day down in the social room working on the purses. I almost have another one completed. Two more to finish and then I have another one to make when the lady finds the color of yarn she wants me to use. Then Nancy wants me to make her a tote bag wide enough to carry her medical records when she goes to the doctor.

The weather has turned colder but we haven't had any snow here but other areas got a little bit.

Nothing else is going on around here worth speaking about. The weekend begins tomorrow.

You sound like a real 'crafty' woman. I saw that when you responded to my Apron Blog, and now this. Thanks so much for your comments; as they really meant a lot to me. I'm glad you enjoyed the memories of The Apron Days! Kathryn emoticon

Birthday Party

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

Today was our monthly birthday party for residents having birthday's this month. Cherry Dump Cake was served w/ice cream. I thought the cake was way too sweet but most people loved it. Our manager made one for the diabetics and I took a taste of that and it was much better. We ran out of ice cream, something that has never happened before but then, we have a lot of new resident's.

Temperatures have dropped so we may have a little ice in the morning. Areas north of here are having a dusting of snow as I write this but it will warm up to the 40's tomorrow. No problems.

No Alarms

Wednesday, February 16, 2011

All has been quiet so I hope it stays that way. I spent the day in the social room crocheting purses because it is much warmer down there than here in my apartment. The weather has turned colder with lots of rain.

Nothing else going on around here. I'm tired and going to bed early. I think it is the cold weather that makes me so tired. My bed is toasty.

Someone Pulled the Fire Alarms

Monday, February 14, 2011

Another false fire alarm tonight, second one since last Saturday (two days ago). Last time it was cigarette smoke in the 2nd floor stairwell. Tonight someone pulled the alarms on the second and third floors. Then all of us mobile people have to go downstairs and gather in the social room. Disabled on the upper floors stay in their apartments. I'm tired of this. Plus we only have two fire trucks for the whole town and skeleton crews because of recent budget cuts. It takes a good 15 minutes for them to get here, all the while the alarm is deafening,

We had a Valentine's Day party this afternoon in the social room. Cookies, coffee and tea. There was a good turnout. I took an apple down and ate that before the cookies were served. I took blueberry fig newtons so I could have some healthy ones. Two is a serving for 110 calories. I only ate two then broke down and ate a vanilla one with frosting and a few sprinkles. The apple kept me from gorging on the cookies. I had black tea, no sugar.

An other storm blew through again today and we still never lost power but many other areas are out. Our lights have flickered quite a bit. Then there was an earthquake near Mt. St. Helens this morning, 4 point. I didn't feel it tho because I got up at 5, had breakfast and went back to bed at 7:30 and slept a couple hours.

It's too bad someone thinks it's funny to pull the fire alarm. It's a pain for everyone involved. Glad you still have power.
