Tomato Plants

Saturday, May 15, 2010

I went to the plant sale today and got three tomato plants for my balcony garden. I'm supposed to have a crop in 70 days. We shall see. My parsley is still growing from last summer. I didn't know it would survive the harsh winter we had.

It was a really nice day. I met the owner of a health food restaurant inside the local Gym and she invited me to do a little volunteering there to see if I like it. She is going to hire a chef in a couple weeks and is thinking of putting in a salad bar and she wants me to take care of it. I have always worked in the food business and I was in charge of the salad bar at the local college for about five years so who know's what might happen? It's really something for me to think about and I can earn some extra money. I am tired a lazing around all the time.

I planted parsley one year and was surprised to find it growing the next year after a long, hard winter.

It was really warm today for a change, around 75`.I did a couple loads of laundry and then went to check the mailbox. The ladies were setting up for potluck so Suzanne and I decided to go check out another apartment complex where they are having a sale. A lady moved to assisted care and left most of her stuff. I found four little condiment spoons, a potato masher, tiny flower pot and a couple Easter rabbits for next year. Then on the free table there was a nice white rubber coated two tier shelf for my refrigerator freezer. So when we got back I cleaned out the freezer and put the shelf in. It made such a difference and I had more room. Then I cleaned off the top of the refrigerator and put things there that I don't use very often. Cupboard space is at a premium here because I have too much stuff.

The rest of the afternoon was spent crocheting down in the social room then I came home and put it away and went to the movie in the media room. It was a comedy but had a lot of profanity in it. It was kind of funny. A couple people walked out but that is normal.

I found out that three trips around one floor of the building is a mile. Now that I know I will walk more and see how many miles I can walk everyday.

Good finds, I love garage sales. It will be nice if you can rack up the miles. Don't get dizzy walking around and around the building!

Kind of a Lazy Day

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

I didn't do a whole lot today other than the normal things then went to check the mail. Mary also went down with Lola (her little dog) in the basket of her scooter and as soon as she got to the lobby the basket fell off and Lola jumped out. I was standing in the lobby signing a birthday card so I grabbed Lola and we got her leash on. The screws on the brackett fell out. They are stripped. I fixed it with my handy dandy duct tape until John can get some larger screws to fix it. My mailbox was empty so I went in the social room and visited with the ladies for a while. It was a nice day but a little cold.

I Actually Got a Phone Call

Monday, May 10, 2010

Another Mother's Day has come and gone. I totally hate holiday's. Jim, my oldest son called me in the afternoon and I had a hunch that he would. Since his dad died last October, he is in contact with me now. It's a long story but he was my first husband and the father of my five children. It was good to hear from him and he was actually sober!! I haven't heard from my other children since 1994 when they got mad about one thing or another. I don't know because they won't tell me.

My real pet peeve is people asking me how my mother's day was and I tell them, then they proceed to tell me all the stuff they got. So I didn't go down for coffee this morning. I'll give them a couple days to quit talking about it.

Fun Day

Sunday, May 09, 2010

The birthday party we had for Lee this morning was a great success and she enjoyed it immensely. She is a very simple, quiet person who attends every function and never has much to say. One of my gifts to her was just a coffee mug that I filled with tea bags and she loved it! Jackie bought the carrot cake and I supplied the candles, then sliced thin pieces and it was very good. Lee took the rest of the cake home so her sister could have some.

The jewelry party was well attended but a lot of us didn't buy anything because we don't have much extra every month, if any. Frankly, I really didn't care for any of it and I had planned to buy something but nothing jumped out at me and said 'buy me'. Jan put out a lot of food--pop, chips, nuts, cookies and a huge vegetable platter. There were a lot of vegetables left.

It was a beautiful day.

Glad you had fun. Sorry you didn't find any jewelry but you did save some money.
