Happy Saturday,

I'm ready for the heatwave armed with a window fan and a table fan. I borrowed the window fan from Val downstairs--whatever a person needs, she usually has a couple. I asked to rent it from her but she just told me to return it when I'm finished using it. I bought the table fan at a garage sale yesterday when I went back to my old place to get my 6' step ladder back before it disappeared. I'm going to put it on the balcony and use it for a plant stand for now.

My bush beans are really flourishing! I hope the tomatoes ripen--don't think that will be a problem this year. And the peppers! Wow, I'm impressed with my little container garden. I'm going to plant more beans and Judy down the hall has some sugar pea seeds she is going to give me.

I went to the movie last night and there was a good crowd because the media room is air conditioned.

Hump Day Musings

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

My little container garden on the balcony is doing wonders. I actually have two green beans (bush type) almost ready to pick. Lots of green tomatoes and peppers. It was just an experiment that happened to work. I think I will plant more bush beans so I can keep them going for a few months longer.

It's cooler today, 73 this afternoon but still hotter days coming for the weekend.

I'm really concentrating on eating healthier so I can actually lose a few inches and send my muffin tops packing.

See -- that proves you've got humidity there. Here in AZ all but the very toughest plants have given up even trying. Your little garden sounds fantastic -- wish I lived in an area where I could grow food like that.

Cooked tomatoes are actually very good for you because cooking brings out the lycopene. Off-hand, I can't remember what the lycopene is good for, just continue to cook with tomato juice and make the sauces. I like green peppers raw with a ranch dip or in salads, sometimes sliced very thin on a sandwich. I also have Italian Parsley and Curley Parsley, Rosemary, Basil and Cilantro. plus a few little flowers. It really smells good when the wind blows across the balcony and the door is open. emoticon emoticon

Glad that you little container garden is turning out well. The green beans will be delicious. I love fresh green beans. I don't like tomatoes, and the peppers is okay in dishes, if it's a small amount. Tomatoes are suppose to be good for us ,though. My Grandma always told me that I took after her Dad, because he didn't like tomatoes, either. Only he wouldn't eat anything with them in it ,either. I'm not that bad, I do like a little spagetti sauce, and pizza. LOL! I do like putting macaroni in tomato juice ,though. It would be easier to eat healthier if liked all the food that is good for us.
I hope that you continue having a good little garden during the growing season. It will be good eating , and less you have to buy at the store.
You might decide to continue your little garden every year, since your experiment has went so well. Happy for you.

We're havin' a Heat Wave!

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Whew! It's dryer here in WA State than in Arizona, very unusual for July. As the week progresses it is supposed to be 100 by the weekend. My apartment is 79`, 82` according to the weatherman. (I don't know why the 2 is so small. My number's are all different sizes).

I went for a walk around the outside of the building, up the sidewalk to the end, then cut across into the parking lot beside us, then did a few hallways. I walked for about 45 minutes. I didn't see hardly anyone in the hallways. Maybe some have an air conditioner in their apartments. I don't even have a fan. Just a couple windows open for a cross draft.

100 with all the humidity. We get the triple digits all summer long. Streaks that don't end but we don't have the humidity to go along. Powder yourself up and sit by a frozen water bottle.

I am in Arizona -- as you mentioned. We had 14 or 15 days in a row of 110+ weather, I think the hottest day was 118 according to the temp shown in my car as I was driving! The only thing that keeps us from just plain melting is that there is little to NO humidity -- I'll bet WA has plenty.

I cannot imagine life without an air conditioner. Didn't know that anyone lived without them any longer. I pity you, truly!

Since losing all my Spark Points when I changed email addresses, it has taken a lot of time trying to put everything back together again. My next step is to see how I can move all my blogs to this new sign in name they made me do.
