Prayer Avalanche

To all my friends (including me) who are going through some issues right now--Let's start a prayer avalanche. We all need prayers right now.

May I ask my Spark Family," wherever you might be, to kindly copy, paste, and share this status for one hour to give a prayer of support to all those who have family problems, health, struggles, job issues, worries and just need to know that someone cares.

Do it for all of us for nobody is immune. I hope to see this on the pages of all my friends just for moral support. I know some will!! I did it for a friend and you can too. Share some faith, love, and spiritual healing for all in need. Thank you. Amen

Digging my grave with a fork.

Here I am trying again to make some adjustments and changes in my life, wondering is it for naught? Why can I not get it? Is something wrong with me that I don't realize I am digging my grave with a fork? Why did my doctor have to send me a appt in the mail to see the nutritionist? Maybe because we've had this discussion before and she didn't want to keep saying what I already knew. Or maybe she went over my chart and saw that I was 240 in February and now I'm 288. In January I was 232. When will it stop!? In 9 months I have gained 56 pounds. Isn't that terrible/sad? My weight has started to affect my liver. I go to see the liver DR on Wednesday to start medication. Will this be the straw that broke the camels back? I don't know but I am hoping and praying it so.

    It's tough to make changes in our lives - you have to get to a point where keeping on with your current course is more painful (physical or emotional or health or whatever) than making the changes.

For me, it was hitting a certain size - I knew if I kept gaining I'd have to wear tents or custom clothing. That was it. I joined SparkPeople, counted my calories, forced myself to walk every day - and I lost 45 lbs in 18 months. I still want to lose another 40 or so, but that will come.

So - are you at a point where you are willing to make a change? Is your health scary enough to make you change?

Please take a moment to think about what will force you to change. You don't have to make huge changes all at once. You can make small changes every few weeks, until they become your new norm. Then make some more small changes. Eventually you will see a change. In your health, appearance, attitude. Really.

I have a Spark friend who lost 130 lbs in the same time I lost my 45 - she kept telling herself that 30 minutes on an elliptical machine was less painful than being at 330 lbs. Really.

So - good luck, and I hope you find whatever will convince you that you can make this change.

    Sabrina, you are worth it. I am have been struggling with food, too, and have gained since June. Sometimes life's changes are hard to deal with. I know I turn to food when things are going badly - I feel like it's the only thing that makes me happy. But when I really think about it, it doesn't make me happy. In the short run, most things just don't satisfy me anyway - they don't take away the pain of whatever is bother me (which is why I keep eating). In the long run, when I start to have those aches & pains again and my clothes start getting tighter, it actually makes me miserable.

The real difference for me this time is you and all the wonderful people I have met here. I may be down but I am not out. I am not going to give up on myself this time. I start every day with the attitude that I can do this. I don't always make it, but I keep trying. I want you to do that too. You are worth it, my friend. Like Dawn, I will do anything I can to help you get there. Lean on us!

    Good luck to you in getting on the right track with your eating and exercise program. I started about where you are back in Dec. 2009. Since then, I've lost about 53 pounds. It was difficult to get started. I had just recovered from spinal fusion surgery and I felt absolutely like an invalid. It was baby steps at first, 15-20 minutes on the treadmill felt like torture, all I wanted to do was work, come home, eat, and sleep. It took my daughter to help me decide that it was time. She wanted to lose weight too so my little 14 year old wrote up a promise that we signed our names to. I guess it was this promise and this document that made me get started. It was a simple thing really, but it was a vow that I made to my kid. Vows I don't like to break. So I want you to know that you can do it. Take it slowly. Make gradual changes. I never thought I'd say this, but I love to exercise. My back is now stronger and I no longer feel like this invalid. Make a promise to yourself. Write it down if you have to. You will be happy you did.

Here's a scripture that touched my spirit this morning: I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. —Job 42:5 It brings to mind growing up under the CARE of my mother. She was a woman after God's heart. Romans 3:23 tells us: ALL have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God and if it wasn't for that, you would have thought she sinned not. She was dying from cancer but she kept a smile on her face in the mist of it and now I know why. So this morning when my spirit received: I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You. —Job 42:5, I was truly blessed spiritually.

By her raising me in the church and instilling the word of God in me has helped me to find my way and have a personal relationship with Him.
