My clothes are in the single digits!

When I started this journey back in March, I was wearing a size 12 but it could have easily been a 14. (I refused to buy 14s!) Last week I had someone ask me how many sizes I had gone down. I said, "Well, I don't know, I haven't been shopping." My clothes were much more loose and I was having to wear a belt, but didn't really think about it. So, this past weekend I thought I would just slip in the store and find out. I was alone, so if disappointment set in then no one had to know.

I grabbed two different brands of jeans in a size 8. Trying on clothes has been depressing for me most of my adult life, so I was nervous and really didn't want to walk away defeated. I tried them both on and they fit! Even had just a little bit of wiggle room, so I decided to just TRY a 6. I stood in front of the mirror for at least 10 minutes debating whether I should just walk away happy or take a chance and see if the 6s would fit. Well, I couldn't stand it, I had to know if they would fit. To my shock and amazement......they fit! Granted, they were tight, but I got them on, buttoned, and zipped!

I was so excited I could barely contain myself. Nothing was bought this weekend because I am hopeful that in a month to 6 weeks they will be too big, but it was a major victory.

Half-Marathon Training starts today!

I have not done an official race since I did a full marathon back in April 2011. It felt like I might die after that one and I was just not motivated any longer. But here we are......I have 4 months until my next half.......who know when I will do another full! With the summer slim down program that I am doing and now adding my training days in 3 or 4 times a week for the next 4 months, I am for sure going to get down the the slimmer me that I so desire.

Part of our slim down program is a weekend run with a trainer. That has been fantastic and I think will be a nice compliment to my training. Last Saturday, we worked on speed work and it looks like we will be doing that every week. It is nothing magical and I could absolutely do it on my own, but I don't! So, it has been a challenge to say the least, but it feels so good afterwards.

The half marathons that I have done in the past have all been under 3 hours which is slow and no big deal for the real runners out there. But I have read so many blogs on SparkPeople where people started off at that pace and got faster and faster, so I have been so encouraged and have set a goal to finish this half in under 2:30. With losing weight and working with a training on my speed, I know I can do this. I will keep you posted and would love for you to hold me accountable!

    yes dont worry about your time but with more practice and eating right u will get faster for sure. keep up the good work it will pay off

    Good luck with your training. Hope you reach your goal! But like others here said, finishing it is an awesome accomplishment! I had a goal of 2:30 for my last half and was ahead of the pacer for 8 miles, then hit a wall and ended up finishing in 2:39. I still felt super great about it, though!

And, OMG! You did a full marathon! There are plenty of people in the world that will NEVER do that! Awesome!

    There's nothing wrong with under 3 (that was my first's time). It is still better then 99% of the country.

I understand the desire to be around 2:30 and it should be an attainable goal with hard work. For my next that's my goal (next year).

Feeling Slim

I know that I have a good ways to go before I am out of the overweight category, but I am feeling so good and my clothes are fitting so much better. We are in week 4 of our summer slim down program and are still loving it even though it is HARD work. This past Monday was the first workout that afterwards I thought I might throw up! (I didn't luckily!)

I am down to 152 and just 2 1/2 months ago I was at 168, so I am pleased to say the least. With my lighter weight, I am able to run faster and that makes me happy too. I am a slow runner so when I say faster, well it's all relative. But last Saturday, I ran 5.75 miles in 53 minutes and that was a major victory for me!

Anyway, I am liking the feel of a lighter me and liking the fact that I am so much stronger than I thought and can do so much more than I ever thought possible. I know I am not unique in this, I think this applies to all people, even YOU!

Summer Slimdown is in Full Swing

We are now into our 2nd week of the summer slim down and just like I thought, last week was a killer.....but it was so good! We did 3 days of bootcamp style workouts and 2 days of spin class. This week will add a 4th day of bootcamp, but we just needed to let our sore muscles rest over the weekend. It has been just fantastic! It is a different instructor everyday and we have many times per day to choose from so if we find a favorite instructor then we can return to their sessions. (And we have found a favorite!) So, we have 16 weeks of this and I am expecting big things from my body. So far I am down another 3 pounds and several inches, so I am super excited about that.

I am trying to still include my Body Revolution DVDs, but it has been hard being so sore. Today for example, I did my spin class at 5:45 this morning and then was planning on doing a DVD this afternoon. It is not going to happen! My van is being worked on and my son had a dentist appointment, so we rode our bikes to the dentist in the rain. My legs are still toast and it has been several hours, so I think I am done for the day! Haha! I am hopeful that as I get more and more used to this amount and level of exercise that I will be able to incorporate 2 workouts per day.

Summer Slimdown

I start a Summer Slimdown program Monday at the gym. My daughter has decided to do it with me and I/we are so super excited! We will have access to nutritionists and multiple trainers.....I think the accountability is what I am looking forward to. And I always do better when I am with other people, I mean I do fine by myself, but having others around is just an extra motivation.

I will keep you all posted on how it goes. Next week will be way or another!
