This Is All The Motivation I Need!

Tuesday, October 09, 2012

Sydni (6), Evan (7), Calli (6)

They say a picture can speak a thousand words. Well, the picture above speaks a number to me that is so big that I can't put a number on it.

Those are my babies.

That's my inspiration.

That's my life.

They are what I am most proud of in my life. They are what frustrates me more than anything in life. They are what is most rewarding to me. They are what I am most protective of. They are what I worry about the most. They are why I get tears in my eyes when I hear "There Goes My Life" by Kenny Chesney. They are the best thing that has ever happened to me.

My son, Evan, is 7 years-old and is in 2nd grade. He loves fire trucks & trains.

The girls are twins. They look and act nothing alike. Calli is 6 and is in 1st grade. She is older by 1 minute.

Sydni is 6 and is in 1st grade. Her nickname is "Peanut" and is the social one of the three.

I could say I want to lose weight to be healthier. True. I could say I want to lose weight to fit clothes better. True. I could say I want to lose weight to be more active. True. I could say I want to lose weight to hopefully be around longer. True.

All that is true, but being a great Dad and being an example that my kids can be proud of is the most important thing to me and is all the motivation I need!

Good Day Sparkville

How sweet! (Your kids and your tribute to them.)

I definitely agree with you -- being able to be a good example for my kids is a huge motivation to be healthier. So is being more than a parent whose interaction with them largely consists of reading books.

Oh. My. Heavens. DO YOU REALIZE HOW ADORABLE THEY ARE?! Of course you do, that's why you're bragging about them! :) My BABY is a junior in college...trust me they grow up so fast. You are so blessed. Love them, squeeze them, laugh with them, all the days of your life because they are precious beyond compare. And really, what better motivation could you have??? One day you'll be posting pics of your grandkids, lol!! Hey, do you realize the great example you're setting for them by getting healthier?? My goodness, Brad, you're the man!

Great blog! You have beautiful children!

I am right there with you on the reasons to get healthier. I want to be a better role model for my kids, but I also want to play with them. My kids have so much fun when we play tag & hide & go seek.

Good luck with your goals!

Is It Really Possible, Did I See Pigs Flying?

Friday, October 05, 2012

No, but I questioned it after this morning.

I know that we go through stages where we lose weight faster and then plateau and all of that. I get that. I really do. I understand that despite working out hard and eating right that some times we will lose more than other times. I get that. I really do.

So help me out here Sparkville. I had my scheduled weigh-in this morning. It is my 30 day done of Tap Out XT weigh-in. It had been 3 weeks since my last weigh in where I lost about 3 lbs. in 2 1/2 weeks. So this weigh in was after 3 weeks of doing Tap Out XT and eating right.

So what was I expecting? I was expecting 2.8 lbs. That would put me at 70 lbs. total. 70! I would be happy with that. But, I have been working really hard and was hoping for 5 lbs. Hey, I said I was hoping. So what were my results...

I LOST 15.4 lbs!!! Yes, 15.4!!!

Is that even possible?

I had the same quarter mouth open, thousand yard stare from the time I left work this morning until I got home. Did I read the numbers right? I weighed myself 3 times so should I have done it a 4th? Was the scale broken? Were pigs flying? What? Huh?

Same scale I have used the entire time. It can't be off by that much. So maybe I really did lose that much! Maybe I hit one of those metabolism lottery things for the last 3 weeks? Whatever it is, I will take it!

It has taken awhile for me to process this but it has started to settle in. I am now down 82.6 lbs! Awesome! Gave me a great boost for my workout today!

Good Evening Sparkville!

Oh it happens. Through this journey I found that my body stops losing weight for about 2-3 weeks then bam, 3-4 pounds gone the next week. And for my size, even for each of those times, losing 3-4 pounds shouldn't have happened. Best this too is to measure and see, that is where I saw the most change. Mind you 15 pounds is a big drop, but with you only weighing in every 30 days... maybe!

Try getting on the scale, see what it says, then get back on with something heavy, weights, a cat, etc. After that # pops up get back on again. I do that sometimes to make sure my scale isn't lying to me!

And CONGRATS!!

Totally possible AND totally AWESOME! The most I ever lost consecutively was 4 lbs a week for like 3 weeks. So yeah, totally possible. Your body's just really inefficient at doing the new exercises, which is GREAT because it calls on more "stored energy" aka fat.

You are doing GREAT!!!

My September Retrospective

Tuesday, October 02, 2012

WoW, September went by quickly! It started with myself starting Tap Out XT on September 1st. After the first week I came down with a double ear infection and the next week I hurt my back. So the first half of September wasn't great for me but the second half has gone really well! I missed 5 days of working out and 4 days of tracking food.. I weighed in 1 time during the month...

September 17th - down 67.2 total since May 5th

I still have 2 more months of Tap Out so that story still has to be written, but I have enjoyed the workout program so far. It is a really hard workout so far, but I have enjoyed the challenge.

Lets see the numbers from September (26 days tracking food, 25 days tracking fitness)...

September Calories Eaten - 51,467 or about 1,980 a day

September Carbs Eaten - 6,407 or about 246 a day

September Fat Eaten - 961 or about 37 a day

September Protein Eaten - 4,346 or almost 167 a day

September Fitness Minutes - 2,150 or about 86 minutes a day!

September Calories Burned - 23,068 or about 923 a day!

I really love seeing the numbers layed out like that. Really makes me feel like I accomplished something!

I am 149 days into this journey. I am really looking forward to see what the 31 days of October will bring!

I AM DOING THIS!
I WILL DO THIS!
I WILL NOT STOP!

Good Day Sparkville

Congratulations!! You have really taken this challenge to a whole new level. Look at all that you've accomplished in...geez, how many months are 149 days? It's too early for math!

Look at how you plowed through after being sick, too -- I admire that big time! If I get out of a routine, even if it's just for a week, I really have to push myself to get back into it. After a few days I'm fine, but it's that initial motivation I have to work on. Kudos to you!!
