Who'd Have Thunk It?

Woke up today with a really sore throat! OUCH! I had a feeling last night that I might be getting sick. Turns out that I was right, unfortunately! As the day went on I really felt pretty bad, just worn out really.

But, my biggest problem of the day? I HAD TO CHANGE MY WORKOUT SCHEDULE!!! WHAT?!?!?

Who'd have thunk it 3 months ago that I would be equally sad& mad that I wasn't going to get in my scheduled workout today? I was HEATED! It is harder when trying to stick to the Tap Out XT workout schedule for 90 days and I am only on day 5! I hated to get off track so soon!

So I made the best of it. I am scheduled to have a rest day Friday in which I would do my normal P90x Stretch video. So, I moved that up 2 days and did it today and will just move todays workout to tomorrow. I think I made a good decision because with the way I was feeling, I wouldn't have gotten in a good workout.

Hope I feel better for Thursday so I can get in a good workout!

    Ohhh Brad, you sound like me. I HATE to miss a workout because of a pithy little thing like sickness. Or injury. Or fatigue. In January, I would have been HAPPY to have a sick day excuse to veg out! Not anymore.

Take your time and recouperate, even though that might seem like the hardest thing in the world. Go for a couple walks and maybe do a few small ST movements. Don't push it until you're feeling 100%.

    I'm sorry to hear you've got the ick. Hopefully it's a drainage issue that resolves quickly. I know tonsillitis is going around-- or is that even contagious? Hmm. Anywho, several people I know have it. Don't beat yourself for taking a lighter day. Remember, this whole journey is about better health.

    I know how hard it is to not get your workout in. Before I wouldn't mind but now I want to work out! However, listen to your body. I had a sore throat over a month ago and figured it was just a sore throat.. so I continued working out. But that little sore throat ended up getting 100x worse (abscess in my throat, not talking for days, drained and in bed for nearly a week) and working out was not in the cards.

Listen to your body, if you need an extra day or two take them. The workouts will be there when you get better.

    I hope you feel better soon! You must be happy you came up with a solution that allowed you to keep to your schedule. I know how hard it is to go off track with these things and to try to get back on. I wish you a speedy recovery!

    I know how hard it is to be active when you get sick. When I get sick it always hits me like a ton of bricks and all I can do is sleep. Congrats on getting some activity in, just make sure you do not over do it. Gargle with warm salt water, my grandma always had me do that and it does help. Hugs to you and I hope you get better soon!

My Odd-yssey, Insanity & Nutrition Week 9 By The Numbers...

I have finished 9 weeks of Insanity & diet! Ok, so this weekly recap will have a day of Tap Out XT as well but you get the idea! I think I had a really good week overall. Finishing Insanity really gave me a good motivational boost to start Tap Out XT!

Spark lowered my numbers a bit for my daily ranges after my last weigh-in. Shouldn't be an issue since I have been at or below my ranges all along!


(7/1-7/7) Week 1 - 2,246.0 cal/day...28.6 fat/day...334.0 carb/day...174.7 pro/day...260 fitness minutes & burned 3,416 calories.

(7/8-7/14) Week 2 - 2,260.7 cal/day...34.0 fat/day...321.4 carb/day...174.4 pro/day...370 fitness minutes & burned 4,594 calories.

(7/15-7/21) Week 3 - 2,234.7 cal/day...33.0 fat/day...321.7 carb/day...172.0 pro/day...405 fitness minutes & burned 5,120 calories.

(7/22-7/28) Week 4 - 2,229.7 cal/day...32.6 fat/day...315.9 carb/day...174.7 pro/day...485 fitness minutes & burned 5,706 calories

Here are my week 9 numbers...

Spark says I can have between 2,010-2,360 calories/day.

August 26 - 2,069
August 27 - 2,024
August 28 - 2,027
August 29 - 1,986
August 30 - 2,016
August 31 - 1,981
September 1 - 1,841

I averaged 1,992.0. Aiming for around 2,000. A little low but I am happy with where I was for the week.

As for fat, Spark says I can have between 45-92. My week in fat...

August 26 - 34
August 27 - 36
August 28 - 37
August 29 - 36
August 30 - 37
August 31 - 35
September 1 - 35

I averaged 35.7 I am aiming for mid 30's, so I am right on my number!


As far as Carbs, Spark says I can have 226-384. My week in carbs....

August 26 - 289
August 27 - 276
August 28 - 270
August 29 - 266
August 30 - 263
August 31 - 256
September 1 - 234

I averaged 264.9 I was aiming for under 275 so I was actually a little low but I am good with where I was!

As for protein, Spark says I should have between 60-206. My week in protein...

August 26 - 160
August 27 - 162
August 28 - 165
August 29 - 159
August 30 - 162
August 31 - 164
September 1 - 152

I averaged 160.6. Wanted to average around 170. I was a little low but not to far off.

Overall, I am really happy with my week 9! Week 10 will be getting going full swing with Tap Out XT! Looking forward to seeing the results from that!

Was down on minutes and calories a little this week. Need to pick it up!

My August Retrospective

Not sure if I think August went by quickly or slowly? I guess I would just say it went by normal then. The school year started which meant back to work for me and back to school for the kids. I stayed faithful and truthful to my diet! I weighed in 2 times for the month...

August 13th - down 58.6 total

August 31st - down 64.3 total

So I definitely saw some positive results for the month of August. Did I mention I also kicked some Insanity ASS in August?!? Well, I DID! I finished Insanity on the 30th and started Tap Out XT today, September 1st but that will be the story for my September retrospective.

Lets see the numbers from August...

August Calories Eaten - 62,825 or about 2,026 a day

August Carbs Eaten - 8,307 or about 268 a day

August Fat Eaten - 1,101 or about 35.5 a day

August Protein Eaten - 5,237 or almost 169 a day

August Fitness Minutes - 2,330 or about 75 minutes a day!

August Calories Burned - 28,030 or about 904 a day!


I really love seeing the numbers layed out like that. Really makes me feel like I accomplished something!

31 days in August, 31 days of diet & exercise. I did not skip a day. I did not miss a day. I started this journey 119 days ago and I am not stopping! Looking forward to what September brings!

I have started Tap Out XT and am looking forward to what happens with that. I will be done with Tap Out XT on November 23rd so I am in for the long haul!

I Finished Insanity!

Done!

I finished Insanity today. It is still hard for me to believe that I actually finished it. I am going to take a second to celebrate and let it set in...

It really is one of my proudest accomplishments that I have ever had!

Ok, so now it is time to move on because I am not done, not by a long shot. This lifestyle change is on the tracks and the train is going to keep on rolling!

I have decided to give Tap Out XT a try. It looks hard but I want the challenge. I want to conquer Tap Out XT next! It is 84 days (3 weeks longer than Insanity) so it will be quite the journey but I am looking forward to kicking it off on Saturday!

I really appreciate all the support I have gotten from all of my great Spark friends. Your encouraging words helped push me doing Insanity even when I wasn't sure I could make it. THANK YOU!!!

That is awesome! I can't wait to see my calendar look like that (only 16 more days!!!). I too will be pushing through another program, P90X, also longer than Insanity once I'm done. We can do this!

Just 3 Days Left Of Insanity! So What Is Next?

This blog will be simple and not filled with facts and figures like so many of them seem to become (hey, I like numbers). Ok, so there will be a couple of numbers, but they are necessary!

The main number is 3. I have just 3 days left of Insanity! ONLY 3 DAYS! I can't hardly believe myself that I am that close to being done with it! I have not missed any workouts or skipped any days. I have done it every day since I started and now the finish line is Thursday! I really think that outside of kids related things, this will rank as one of my proudest personal accomplishments. I really do!

But, with the end of Insanity brings up a new question that I have been giving some thought about. After Insanity, what is next? Ok, Friday is my next weigh-in but after that. Saturday is September 1st which sounds like a great date to start a new workout program! I had a friend tell me that I should take a couple weeks off...umm NO! I will take Friday off (P90x stretching video...that is my off day lol) and then start anew of Saturday.

I have 107.4lbs to go, so it isn't coming anytime soon.

My choices are...

-Insanity a 2nd time

-P90x

-P90x 2

-Tap Out XT

I don't think I want to go through Insanity again right away. I mean, I know it would work but I get bored doing the same workouts over and over and I am kind of there on a couple of the Insanity workouts.

I am leaning Tap Out XT. I skimmed over a couple of the workouts and it honestly looks harder than Insanity which is kind of crazy but sounds like a challenge! Tap Out XT is also 12 weeks instead of 9 like Insanity which may make it harder to stick with.

I am curious if anyone has any suggestions or opinions on any of these programs. I am open to hearing pros and cons to any of them.

    Have you looked into Jillian Michael's Body Revolution System? I don't know too much about it but I read a few people saying that it was like Insanity and way harder than any of her single DVD's as it is a complete system.

    I'm interested in hearing what you end up choosing. As you know, I'm on my second round of Insanity. After the first round, I did the same Recovery Week workout (as between the two months) and then started the second round. I'm going to do a third round too after this one. I want to be able to say I accomplished my weight loss through Insanity and I really like the program, so I am up for repeating it. I totally understand wanting to do something new. The Tap Out XT is probably what I'll do after the third round. I love to challenge myself and that looks challenging to me.

    Maybe go for a shorter program this time? Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred looks intense and only requires a set of hand weights and a hard floor to do jumping jacks on - routines are only 20 minutes a day, though, so you might need to pair it with some other cardio like walking. I'm not sure how long the Insanity routines were - maybe 20 minutes a day is right up your alley?

Either way, you have a LOT to be proud of. Insanity is HARD AS HECK! I've only previewed the program and found it to be too intense for me. You're a rockstar!

    Congrats!! I have to say that the Tapout XT does look like a good workout. I talked to hubby about ordering it when we get the funds. It may kill me though! I am ready to shake up my work outs too. They are going to start Kettlebell classes at my Y on Sept 6. I am really looking forward to it! WOOHOO B....only has 3 days to GOOOOO!!!! :)

    i am just about to start month 2 and i am already looking into what program i will start next! i am interested in P90X, but i struggle with finding 60+ minutes a day. i too am getting bored with doing the same workouts over and over but i really like Insanity. i still feel like i can barely keep up, so i sort of want to do this program again so i can keep up with Tanya.

i also feel the need to incorporate weights into my routine. so maybe a Chalean Xtreme/Insanity hybrid.

looking forward to hearing what you decide on!

and CONGRATS TO (almost) FINISHING THIS PROGRAM! next to child birth and quitting smoking, its the hardest thing i have ever done.
