My Odd-yssey, Insanity & Nutrition Week 6 By The Numbers...

Sunday, August 12, 2012

I have finished the 6 weeks of Insanity & diet. This week wasn't as good as I would have wanted but I can't complain overall.

Last Sunday I had a birthday dinner out which I made smart choices but it is still eating out. Also, had a party yesterday at the neighbors and they had some good food. I didn't go crazy but it definitely put my numbers up a bit higher.

Tomorrow is my weigh-in day and I am looking forward to it, but I am also a bit nervous.

(7/1-7/7) Week 1 - 2,246.0 cal/day...28.6 fat/day...334.0 carb/day...174.7 pro/day...260 fitness minutes & burned 3,416 calories.

You are consistent with your plan. You set your goals and achieve them. In fact, your goals are more "strict" than SP. Even when you go over your personal alottment, you are still within range for SP! Tomorrow is YOUR day!

It's amazing how consistent your numbers are -- even with the two semi-indulgent days! Tomorrow should show your excellent results! Good luck!

Great job on not falling into the "but its my birthday" mentality. The most important thing on this journey is to keep going, no matter what. If you slip don't stay down, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep at it. You are doing fantastic! :)

Has It Really Been 3 Years?

Friday, August 10, 2012

Today, August 10, 2012 is actually my 3 year anniversary of signing up on Spark. I remember walking by one of my co-workers and he was entering label information from food on the computer and I asked him what he was doing? He told me and I said, "Its called Shark People?" LOL! Funny.

So I signed up for Spark that night and started tracking on August 11, 2009. I look back at that time now and realized that I was not mentally prepared to do what I am actually doing now. I did Spark faithfully for about 3 months and saw some great results by just eating well. After about 3 months, I gave up tracking my food and went back in to some bad habbits that led me back to Spark on May 5th of this year.

I could say that I wish I had not quit back then or done things different. That is all true but I just feel so much stronger mentally now. I feel like I am really ready to do this right. I feel like I have learned a lot about health and nutrition over the last couple of years to make this thing work.

My time on Spark has also been much different this time around. The first time, I only tracked food. This time around, I now admin 3 different Spark teams, I read articles and blogs all the time, and I have the support of some great Spark friends that keep me motivated! I am so grateful for that!

I plan on being in a position to maintain by my 4th Spark anniversary. Thats the plan, and I am sticking to it!

Good Day Sparkville

I'm really happy that this time you have really embraced everything available to you from SparkPeople. Tracking food and exercising is obviously important, but having people to share that with you helps immensely and is priceless. You're doing great. Congratulations!!

I can relate to that feeling of "why didn't I try to do this sooner?", especially because it (knock on wood!) seems so easy right now. You are absolutely right -- for whatever reason, everything needs to click into place to make this a success, and there's no use having regrets, we just need to focus on the now. Congrats on all your hard work!!!

I joined Jan 2010. It's good we can look back at how we attempted it before. My first go at it was obviosly not in the spirit of real transformation. At the same time, we learn a little at a time so when we are serious, we know what serious looks like. I was looking at my first couple of weeks of this time (only 3 months ago) and I have come a long way even from that. It goes to show we are actually learning here. Keep rockin' Brad! You are off the dirt roads and on the freeway now!

In Just 1 Week...Oh Goodness...

Monday, August 06, 2012

By this time next Monday, I will have had my long awaited weigh-in. Geez that sounds great and scary all at the same time! I really try not to put all of my stock into that number on the scale because I know I have been doing really well, but it still would be nice to see a GREAT number pop up.

Quick recap...

-May 5th- started my diet and back on Spark

-June 19th- my last weigh-in and I was down 33.9lbs.

-July 1st- started doing the Insanity workout program

-August 13th- next Monday, my weigh-in. Also, day 100 since May 5th.

So what number would I be happy with?

24.

If I am down another 24lbs, that would put me near my first major goal. I think with 54 days between weigh-ins, 24lbs seems pretty reasonable. If I am over 20 I will be ok with it. If I am under 20, I will NOT be happy!

I know that the scale isn't everything but I sure would like to see it anyways. I have clothes that now fit and I get comments from people so I know what I am doing is working. I have been at or under my calorie, carb, and fat ranges for 39 days in a row now! I have not missed a single workout since I started July 1st!

Now, I just hope all of my hard work and diligence will pay off next Monday.

I am definitely nervous...

I have a feeling you are going to be pleasantly surprised! Either way, you know that you've made your heart stronger, your lungs more capable, and your muscles bigger - even if you didn't lose a single pound, you're still a healthier man today than when you started exercising in July.

If anyone deserves the big drop on the scale, it's you. You have been so dedicated to your journey and life changes.

In addition to your weight, are you keeping track of your measurements? Spark recommends measuring once a month. Several months my measurements have provided me significantly more motivation and excitement than that dang scale. I am SO visual. Inches off mean just as much to me as pounds lost.

(I'm such a geek! I'll plug my waist and hip circumference into a drawing program and print it off, then lay my new circumference on top of my old circumference. I also have a circumference for my ideal waist and hip size. I like this added visual reinforcement.)

Only 6 days to go!!! Whoo Hoo!

Oh man, you have been so dilligent about everything and working so hard! I would think there's a good chance you meet the number you want, or if not, you'd be pretty darn close! Try not to be nervous -- no matter what, you've put a ton of effort into this, and any loss is a good one.

I completely relate about the numbers. There are so many benefits to this whole weight loss thing, but in the end, I want to see a big drop! When I get closer to the goal, I don't think it will matter as much, but for now, I'm with ya there!

"The Fighter"

Sunday, August 05, 2012

I find it much easier to get me workouts in with some music in the background. Makes the workouts go by faster, at least in my head. Plus the music can get me kind of pumped up and ready to go. It helps me get in more reps and can get me moving faster.

So do you have a song or songs or a playlist that you use?

I start every workout with Gym Class Heroes ft. Ryan Tedder "The Fighter". That song gets me going and is a great way to start my workout!

I have also been using Usher "Scream", Chris Brown "Run It", Justin Timberlake "Rock Your Body" & "Like I Love You", Britney Spears "Gimme More", and a remix of "The Gambler" with Kenny Rogers, Wyclef, & Pharoahe Monch. (Good tune worth checking out IMO)

Just wondering if anyone has any good suggestions that I could add in?

Mystery Skulls! All their songs are great, but I get in some serious speed with songs called "Amazing" and "Every Note." Their song "Ghost" is a wonderful cool-down tune.

don't laugh Brad but I use an oldie but goodie! Richard Simmons Walk across america!!!! He is goofie but keeps me motivated! He starts out with one of the states , talks about it a bit (capital, and what it is famous for! He goes on to the next state and so forth doing all the states and ends up in Hawaii digging your toes in to the warm sunny sands of Hawaii! I can't stop til I do Hawaii! I want to feel the beach! It works!!! It is pretty fast pace as all states takes 30 minutes! He is funny all the way too! Maybe it is just that somebody is talking to me?

I use alot of different artists but the ones with the most plays on my cardio playlist are these. Some are faster than others. I have a pretty eclectic taste with my music! I hope some of these help. :)

Howlin for you-The Black keys, Supermassive black hole-Muse, Fuel-Metallica, Seven Nation Army-White Stripes, Raise your glass-Pink, The Distance-Cake, You Really Got me-The Kinks, Mr. Brightside-The Killers, I Disappear-Metallica, Trouble-Pink, Move like Jagger-Maroon 5, Barracuda-Heart. I used to use Britney Spears Toxic but I kind of burned my self out on it.

your fat intake seems low, what is your thinking behind that? Our bodies need fat! I think you should concentrate more on saturated vs. good fats instead of keeping such a low number.
