    Woohoo! You are killing it!

It's cool to see all your numbers for comparison -- your diligence is incredible (and your ability to stay away from the scale is amazing, I try to limit myself to once or twice a week, but when I get close to a 10-lb mark, I get a little obsessive!

Keep up the great work!

Updating The Sodium Conundrum...

Thursday, July 26, 2012

My blog about possibly solving the sodium problem on July 17th...

Well, it has been over a week since I think I got my sodium thing under control and I can honestly say that I have stuck to it! Even 2 out of the last three days I stayed within the range that Spark gives for daily sodium! 2 OUT OF 3 DAYS! WoW! Just 10 days ago I was double the limit of my daily intake. Over the last 10 days I have averaged about 2,500 of sodium a day! I know that is a little above the 2,300 max but it is definitely progress!

I cut out a few things like Gatorade, turkey bacon, & soup and found some lower sodium alternatives. I also found some lower sodium alternatives of the same products I was having.

I now look at the sodium on labels just the same as I look at fat or calories.

Keep Pushing!

Good Night Sparkville

Congratulations! By the way, I love soup and hardly eat it because it's absolutely the worst thing for hiding salt.

Another trick to reduce salt is to use plain yoghurt or lemon juice to sharpen the flavour of things.

Trader Joe's & "The Blair Witch Project"?

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Trader Joe's. Seriously.

Does anyone have one near them and do they go to it? What are your thoughts on Trader Joe's?

I have been hearing for months how great of a store this is. I have been hearing for months that it is always so busy and even when it first opened in Louisville, it was so packed that it was hard to get in! I have been hearing for months that it is so much better than Whole Foods!

No.

I remember when "Blair Witch Project" came out and I had no interest in going to see it. I waited until it came out on video to actually watch it. I had been hearing all the hype and how interesting it was for months and when I finally saw it, I was severely disappointed. What a terrible movie.

So I am calling Trader Joe's, my "Blair Witch" of stores. I was not impressed at all. The prices weren't as good as I had thought they were by the way my friends talked. It was very small and Whole Foods has a much bigger selection. Needless to say, I don't think I will ever have a need to go back.

Is this just me? Am I missing something?

Good Day Sparkville

For me it's a draw, I like them both. AT TJ-I shop there for salad fixings, premade salads, healthy snacks and healthy frozen meals. My son loves the spicy steak burritos and I am addicted to their hummus. I have found some things there that I have not found anywhere else (dried baby pineapple slices, dried mango slices and a great rosemary pecan/dried cranberry mix). Try their cranberry gorgonzola vinagrette. It is out of this world.

At WF- They have fresh bison, which is hard to find other places and their quacamole is the best and they have a great bread selection.

I like trader joe's for specialty items, but not as an every week necessity kind of place. There are specific items from there that are absolutely delicious! The one by me is always packed.

As for whole foods, I don't like that store. I've been twice and both times the produce I saw was ALL moldy. And the one whole store smelled funky and was full of hippies! I feel like there is so much hype for whole foods, and it just seems like a fad and overpriced to me.

Oh man, I'm sorry you were so disappointed! I am a self-professed Trader Joe's addict -- although, I only shop there a few times a year and stock up, because it's not that convenient for us. It is kind of on my way home (my hour-long commute!), but is much closer to work than home, so the only time I stop there is when I feel like extending my day and have the time, which isn't often! Plus when I do stop, I need to shop for about 5 other families because I'm the only one who ventures down that way, so it's never a quick errand.

Trader Joe's IS small and does not offer nearly the selection that Whole Foods does, but the bonus is the quality of what they offer, at least in my experience. I don't think it is the kind of place where I would shop for all my groceries or to feed a family because most items don't serve a ton. My husband and I have tried many different things that we LOVE (their vodka sauce, roasted red pepper & eggplant spread, and hummus are always on our list). Think of it as a place where you'd buy some special items to add to your meal. If you need suggestions for what to buy, I've got a long list!

The Small Things Along The Way...

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

This won't be a particularly long or informative blog post. This one is more of a recognition for myself after such hard work to get to where I am now 74 days into this journey. Every once in awhile, something pops up that is a bit unexpected and it feels so good and is really good motivation.

Well, I had one of those today. I bought a shirt last year that did not fit me and told myself that one day it will. Well, TODAY WAS THAT DAY!

The shirt didn't fit me in June but I knew it was getting closer. So randomly, I gave it a shot today and it fit! AWESOME! Gives me motivation to keep pushing and see more results!

Good Day Sparkville
