Tennessee Flooding May 2, 2010

Sunday, May 02, 2010

I am going to try to put up the pictures I took early this morning..before this afternoon's deluge which is ongoing as I write. The water is much higher than when I took the pictures. These were taken around our property here on the farm. The water over the road is now knee deep in more than one place and even the trucks cannot get through any more.

Normally, no water would be standing here..view from house towards the road.
This is from the driveway looking towards the road.

This is looking towards the "spring" where all this water is heading. NO water is normally visible here..the spring is about 15 feet below the surface normally.

This is water over the road...now much deeper. To the left of the road is our field...and the road is about at the level of my shoulder or even head depending upon where you are standing...so this water is deep.

WoW!!!! Thanks for sharing the pictures Asta emoticon
Things like this make me realize my smallness in the world.
How we humans have no control over the elements that is.

Success...sort of.

Saturday, May 01, 2010

Well, I just don't know what to say. I had a Dr. app't yesterday. We were discussing blood sugars and food choices. I knew I had lost some weight...but didn't have the exact numbers. He told me I have lost 11 pounds in the last year. Great, right?

Well, yes and no.

I joined SP in Feb. of 2007. Thought I would be getting my nearly 30 lbs off pronto.THAT did not happen. I lost three. Then some health issues and weight gain. SO, that 11 pounds means I have finally gotten the ten off that I had regained...and finally made it down to just under my current marker (not moved yet)

SO, I am thrilled that I seem to finally be breaking the set-point that has held me captive for a long time...but it is embarrassing to have GAINED weight while I am trying to lose it.

I can feel the difference in my clothing now. I am definitely healthier now than I was three years ago. I am my own worst enemy though...hence the slow progress. BUT progress IS progress.

So, the bottom line will be that I continue on from here..and I hope to eventually get where I want to go.

Keeping the T-Tapp going AND mowing is what seems to have finally nudged things along. Especially the huge mow job I took on at my daughter's house just over a week ago..but I seem to be staying down which pleases me no end!

That's the way I feel too, progress is progress. I hit a plateau and still am sitting at the same weight. Terrible thing about plateaus is they leave you deviating from the great pattern you had going...well it does me anyway. So tomorrow morning I will have to do my utmost to try and break through the plateau. I know how, just need to stomp on it and get it done.

You'll get there...you have a good, positive attitude. This isn't a contest, there won't be any winners nor will there be any losers! One day at a time, sometimes one hour at a time...this is a "long haul" job. Education and getting your mindset to change are key....if you know you can do it you can... "if you think you can you will, if you think you can't you won't"....I think you can!! Hang in there, you ARE making progress and that is fantastic!!

djembe

Saturday, April 03, 2010

My friend Celeste' showed a picture of her family members playing djembe drums. I had never heard of them until recently.

My father in law encountered them somewhere, liked it so much he bought one. THEN he liked it so much he thought my husband should have one too..and bought him one. It arrived earlier this week.

I am blogging about this Celeste', so I can show you Bruce and his new drum. He was playing on/with it while I mowed the lawn this afternoon. He is on our front porch enjoying the drum and the late afternoon sunshine.

You are so right Laurie I DO LOOOOOOVE IT.
My son has this saying at the bottom of his business card.
"We all have rhythm in our soul, because from our earliest memories we have heard the drums in our mothers heartbeat, the roaring of air in our lungs as we breath....we all have rhythm"

Here is a link where Bruce can pick up some rhythms if he needs.

How great that the joy of playing music on a unique instrument has spread through your friends and family. I LOVE music. I spent YEARS playing the clarinet, and I have a guitar sitting in my room that I fully intend to learn how to play. Good for them for trying something new!

Springing forth with exercise

Friday, April 02, 2010

I just love it when I get this message from the Spark Cardio :
You've gone over your weekly calories burned goal by a significant amount.

At this time of year, the mowing season begins and I really enjoy mowing...and knowing it is healthy for me as well as accomplishing something. Along with that, I am doing my T-Tapp exercises...just a fifteen to 18 minute workout but it WORKS.

I hope that this boost in activity will finally budge the scale and let me start moving my "ticker" again!

BTW..I borrowed a lawn mower so I am back to work! Yea!

Time for me to take a leaf out of yr book except as you go into spring, we are going into Autumn. As the evening get colder, I'm finding myself prowling around my kitchen looking for an extra snack. Last year I bought the hot chocolate (no sugar one) and that worked. Time to reinvest in the next 20kgs shift.

ps you must be every husbands dream woman....a woman who LOVES mowing. emoticon

Now what do I do?

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

I am so thrilled that the weather is warming up and the sunshine is just gorgeous!

I have been able to walk more, and have begun mowing. I have mowed over two hours and to my dismay, this well used mower is trying to fall apart! Yesterday, the protection from rocks etc being thrown at you ...a heavy rubber apron on the back...fell off. Today, I was nearly done, and the handle literally broke off the machine!!! One side, anyway. So now I have to see if I can order the replacement part and then figure out how to install it.

In the meantime, though, what do I do about the mowing yet to be done? I WANT to do it myself!!!

Well, maybe I can borrow a mower...I think I have about two more hours to go.

Then, if the warmth and recent rains do their job, I should be ready to start the mowing cycle again. Yea!

Yup borrow one is the option I would go for. I had to do the same. We finally had to cancel the garden service..for obvious reasons, but that didn't stop the grass growing and we don't own a mower. I loaned one for an afternoon and got all the gardening done on one day. I was pooped after that, but felt good despite the aching hamstrings, the form arms that found places to hurt etc. This is a new exercise for me and my body wasn't used to it. Well, it had better get used to it cos I'll be mowing bi weekly from here on.

Ah, the joys of home ownership. I found a piece of ours that broke off while DH was mowing last weekend. But it is good exercise, so I say borrow a mower and finish up.
