djembe

Saturday, April 03, 2010

My friend Celeste' showed a picture of her family members playing djembe drums. I had never heard of them until recently.

My father in law encountered them somewhere, liked it so much he bought one. THEN he liked it so much he thought my husband should have one too..and bought him one. It arrived earlier this week.

I am blogging about this Celeste', so I can show you Bruce and his new drum. He was playing on/with it while I mowed the lawn this afternoon. He is on our front porch enjoying the drum and the late afternoon sunshine.

You are so right Laurie I DO LOOOOOOVE IT.
My son has this saying at the bottom of his business card.
"We all have rhythm in our soul, because from our earliest memories we have heard the drums in our mothers heartbeat, the roaring of air in our lungs as we breath....we all have rhythm"

Here is a link where Bruce can pick up some rhythms if he needs.

How great that the joy of playing music on a unique instrument has spread through your friends and family. I LOVE music. I spent YEARS playing the clarinet, and I have a guitar sitting in my room that I fully intend to learn how to play. Good for them for trying something new!

Springing forth with exercise

Friday, April 02, 2010

I just love it when I get this message from the Spark Cardio :
You've gone over your weekly calories burned goal by a significant amount.

At this time of year, the mowing season begins and I really enjoy mowing...and knowing it is healthy for me as well as accomplishing something. Along with that, I am doing my T-Tapp exercises...just a fifteen to 18 minute workout but it WORKS.

I hope that this boost in activity will finally budge the scale and let me start moving my "ticker" again!

BTW..I borrowed a lawn mower so I am back to work! Yea!

Time for me to take a leaf out of yr book except as you go into spring, we are going into Autumn. As the evening get colder, I'm finding myself prowling around my kitchen looking for an extra snack. Last year I bought the hot chocolate (no sugar one) and that worked. Time to reinvest in the next 20kgs shift.

ps you must be every husbands dream woman....a woman who LOVES mowing. emoticon

Now what do I do?

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

I am so thrilled that the weather is warming up and the sunshine is just gorgeous!

I have been able to walk more, and have begun mowing. I have mowed over two hours and to my dismay, this well used mower is trying to fall apart! Yesterday, the protection from rocks etc being thrown at you ...a heavy rubber apron on the back...fell off. Today, I was nearly done, and the handle literally broke off the machine!!! One side, anyway. So now I have to see if I can order the replacement part and then figure out how to install it.

In the meantime, though, what do I do about the mowing yet to be done? I WANT to do it myself!!!

Well, maybe I can borrow a mower...I think I have about two more hours to go.

Then, if the warmth and recent rains do their job, I should be ready to start the mowing cycle again. Yea!

Yup borrow one is the option I would go for. I had to do the same. We finally had to cancel the garden service..for obvious reasons, but that didn't stop the grass growing and we don't own a mower. I loaned one for an afternoon and got all the gardening done on one day. I was pooped after that, but felt good despite the aching hamstrings, the form arms that found places to hurt etc. This is a new exercise for me and my body wasn't used to it. Well, it had better get used to it cos I'll be mowing bi weekly from here on.

Ah, the joys of home ownership. I found a piece of ours that broke off while DH was mowing last weekend. But it is good exercise, so I say borrow a mower and finish up.

the baby bib

Thursday, March 25, 2010

If I have done this correctly, here is a picture of my grandson..six months old, modeling a bib I made using old sweatshirt fabric. As you can see by the carrots all over his face, he NEEDS full coverage with a bib!

Ok..that didn't work. Try this: share.shutterfly.com/share/received/

There are several other pictures here as well...but you will see several of THE bib.

BTW.. original bib was purchased, I copied the shape. Used elastic and a button instead of a snap arrangement like the original. My first effort was toweling with an applied edging, with a button and loop closure.

Lovely bib, which I noticed AFTER those incredible blue eyes. Gorgeous baby...really! I will know if my grand baby is a a girl or boy in the next 3 weeks. They can tell from as early as 12 weeks now. We are sitting at 8 weeks.

You would need to click the link in the blog...then click "view album" to see the prints.

The pic with him in the suit is Andrew at 11 weeks, modeling his first suit and shoes. He is now six months old...wish I had the pic of him standing similarly with his daddy..you can really see the difference in his height...and he SO wants to stand on his own.

I don't see the bib you made or the carrots all over his face but he looks very cute in his suit! Have a great day with your family.

Learning to post pics on blogs

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Some of my SP friends have posted beautiful photos on their blogs.

I have been involved in several discussions about flowers blooming and the progression of signs of spring.

I took a few photos with my cell phone to share with someone who says they don't get many daffodils in their area. Today, the hyacinth opened their first blooms. So..I shall attempt to share.

Well, there are the hyacinth. (Remember, this was taken with my cell phone! Not great quality)

This is a view across my front yard, looking out towards the cow field.
