More on snoozing

Monday, November 04, 2013

From Better Homes and Gardens August 2013 page 172

"Go ahead and sleep late. Turning in and waking up at the same time every day does help you fall asleep faster and stay asleep. But if you're up late at a barbecue Friday night, your body definitely benefits from turning off your alarm and getting some extra z's the next morning. "Making up sleep in the short term does work," says Christopher Winter, M.D. medical director of the Martha Jefferson Sleep Medicine Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. You can also band some extra shut-eye beforehand if you know you're going to spend a late night out."

Aw that doesnt work for me. No matter how late I fall asleep, my internal clock wakes me up early. Can be quite tiresome....especially when the rest of my family sleep late so easily. Only my younger son and I are early matter what.

Be a Snoozer!

Sunday, November 03, 2013

From page 78 of Good Housekeeping Magazine November 2013 comes a short clip that I think is SO true!!!

"I Dream of Gratitude"
"It's a time to say THANKS...but not if you skimp on shut-eye. Getting too little sleep my make you more self-centered and less appreciative of the good things in your life, even when you make an effort to count those blessings, reports a study from the University of California, Berkeley. Those closest to you-such as your spouse-are particularly likely to suffer. Not only are you grouchy without enough rest, but you may also lack the energy to focus on your hubby's needs or notice his good qualities, which in turn may make him less appreciative of you, says study head Amie Gordon, Ph.D. To feel genuinely thankful this Thanksgiving, plan extra pillow time-for both of you."

You don't need a holiday to apply this advice. It would be wise, I think, to keep it in mind especially on the days we know we are short on sleep.

I sure notice a difference when I don't get enough. During the years of my kids growing up, I went on short sleep for a long time...and it seemed normal! Now, I know better!

Sunday, September 29, 2013

Early morning Friday September 27th.

Saturday September 28th

This is looking down the hill towards the parking area...these are some of the campers that were there for the whole project.

Notice that the brick is done on the front of the building...also on back side. Almost completed on both ends also when i took this photo shortly before we had to leave.

Traffic/attendants tent and the "point" position DH and I worked for all 7 of the days we were there.

We finished the concrete for our build on Saturday. We get to rest this week and next, then full on for the actual building process. The family and I are so excited for this event, it is all that is discussed in the evenings.

We parked over 200 cars on the lot next to the building site. More on site and even more on the offsite lot. I understand around 700 meals were served at noon on Saturday. ALL volunteers...from ALL over Tennessee.

It is really an amazing process to see this take place...and with all the smiles and good humor..all the cooperation. Of course there are oopsies and so forth..but overall, it is a place of peace and love and cooperation that is truly magnificent. More than one person left problems and home and said how glad they were that they gave them a period of rest and relief from the outside world. emoticon I am feeling very privileged to have been invited to participate.

Kingdom Hall Build...2nd video

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

The brother that made and posted the first video (see my previous blog) has posted a second one. I loved that I am now acquainted with many of the folks who were working at this effort to build the foundation and slab. The arial phots were taken from a glider! Later, someone brought a small drone and they took photos and video with that. I have seen the drone, but not the photos..yet. is his second video of the all volunteer effort to build another Kingdom Hall in praise of Jehovah.

I love that DVD. My hubby and son are starting up a drone company this side, so it was interesting for me to see the aerial photos.
Ps the skirt arrived and fits LIKE I WAS WITH YOU trying on different sizes. Amazing. I am just waiting for someone to come home and take a photo.

Building a new Kingdom Hall

Sunday, September 22, 2013

Last weekend Saturday was set up day for the construction of a brand new Kingdom Hall in Lewisburg Tn. Here is a peek at the prep that had already been done:

I took a photo first thing in the morning on the 14th. That day was all about preparing for the actual construction project.

The actual construction project began on the following Thursday, Sept. 19th. First thing in the morning shot: Around the slab were sections of the roof joists that had been constructed during the week. A huge crane was brought in and positioned on set up day.
Here is another view of first thing in the morning...with all the surrounding joist sections...notice the crane in place.

By the end of the day Thursday, the framing for the walls was up and the roof sections had been placed. Friday morning..almost first thing:

Friday night, rain moved into the area. All the parking had been in a huge field adjoining the property...but Saturday, the rain forced off-site parking, shuttles and lots of adjustments to try and not be soaked. The rain finally cleared out by late morning...the temps were about ten degrees lower than the days preceding..and a nice breeze made it almost chilly. Good work weather but the mud was unbelievable...EVERYthing was sailing in mud.

I didn't think to take pics of all the mud mess, but here are a few more from about mid morning on Saturday. Notice that they got the decking on the roof Friday before the rain!

This morning, our field had dried out enough to allow us to park there once again. I forgot all about getting the photo first thing...we were REALLY busy with all the vehicles arriving. I did think of it several times during the day...but never remembered to take the camera up. I wish I had thought to take photos of the brothers and sisters who first used shovels to clear all the mud clods off the street, then shovel the mud off, then sweep it...and finally, pressure wash it.

So far, we have worked five days. One for set up, four for actual construction. The site has looked like a bee hive..SO much many contributing time and skills. We have had a lot of local residents drive up to ask questions about what was going has been a nice witness.

We will be back again early on next Friday morning. Hope I will remember to take more pics...I don't lug my little camera around all day so I have to think to get photos. Anyway..there is a peek at what is going on.
