A one step success!

Monday, November 05, 2012

DH and I love to go to a Chinese buffet in our area. I usually load up on veggies and fish...and a few special favorites. Today was the first time I have gone there since I decided to quit wheat. I was a little bit nervous about going, not sure how I would do in making wheat free choices. But it was amazingly easy!!!! I did skip the spring roll and the other couple of special favorites...but loading up on the good-for-me things were quite sufficient. I am so pleased with this success!!!! emoticon ME!!!

FINALLY...one very important pound OFF!

Tuesday, October 30, 2012

I am really excited this morning. emoticon

I have been on SparkPeople for years...and watched others lose literally hundreds of pounds. I wish I had tracked how many times I have lost and relost the same 10 to fifteen pounds. Today I FINALLY had a break through and am seeing 169 instead of 170 or more on my scale. It may be a two pound loss, actually, but my old scale is not all that clear..so will wait to be sure. But that still doesn't diminish my delight in that surprise this morning.

My realization some weeks ago that I couldn't expect different results if I kept doing the same things has paid off. The changes I made were not dramatic...dropped wheat and diet soda...and have been working at getting ten flights of stairs and 10000 steps a day. The steps vary but I have done well with the stair climbing. Lately, since I haven't been mowing or dancing...I have found myself jogging in place..counting 100 steps frequently through out the day to try to boost that step count.

AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED!!! CHANGE! Whoo HOO!!! emoticon

Asta, I am so happy for you. You have left the 170's behind!! I love seeing brand new numbers.
It's great that you have chosen to do stair climbing, because you target different muscle groups that way. No easy feat!
Keep up the momentum. You are doing great!

I'm so happy for you! It might seem like you're losing slowly, but without all that hard work you might have gained instead of lost.
To get a bit extra from my running in place, I slip a resistance band around the leg of a sturdy object (in my case it's a workshop-type table made of 2x4's) and hang on to the ends. This video shows an example. I can't tell what he attached the resistance band/tube to, but you get the idea:

Good luck!

That's wonderful!! I'm with you I've been on SP for about 3 years and have lost and gained many times the same 20 lbs. I'm currently stuck at the same 15 lbs lost for about a month. I guess I should be glad I haven't gained.

Your motto you can't expect different results doing the same things makes soo much sense. Thanks!! You've hit me this morning!!

SHAME on Jack In The Box

Friday, October 26, 2012

I LOVE Jack In The Box ....the Chicken Fajita Pita is a healthy choice that tastes great. A good choice for anyone watching calories..but also for a type two diabetic..like me. emoticon

Today I went through the drive through and ordered our usual...two Chicken Fajita Pitas and two teas. One unsweetened and one half sweet/half Unsweet, Both with lemon.

The server apologized and said that they no longer serve UNsweetened tea. That they now offer a mango something or other tea instead. WHAT???????????????????

I was aghast...NO unsweetened TEA...in the SOUTH? emoticon This limits me to water. I don't drink soda...I CAN'T drink the sweet tea and the mango tea has who knows what in it..but I don't want a fruit tea anyway. So that leaves buying water. NO THANKS (We ended up going to McDonald's to get the tea!)

The folks who work in Jack In The Box can't explain the WHY of this. They were all so nice. It is NOT their choice. I tried calling the 800 number on the spot to complain! I ended up on hold too long so had to wait till I got home and went online.

BUT, This is such a BAD decision by someone at Jack In The Box. Shame on whomever made this decision!!! I don't like you very much, for sure!!!

We don't have a Jack-in-the-box anywhere near where I live now but I used to like going there. Sad that they have made this very poor choice to no longer have UNsweetened iced tea available.
Our local Subway dropped it too some time back and replaced it with some flavored teas, even tho they did already offer raspberry tea.
I do understand adding on fruity teas, especially as more people pull away from sodas. But eliminating plain old unsweetened tea is completely the dumbest thing they could do.
Once in awhile we'll get food from Subway still - but not as often as before since the only thing we can drink there now is water. The flavored teas have all sorts of additives we must avoid.
This whole food-intolerance/allergy thing is really getting nuts in my household - at first it was just Jessi & Dany and we all adapted. Then I got added to the list, Dany moved away, and now Becca is added on - and with recent changes our household size is now 4... 3 of whom must avoid one or more of the following: corn, soy, wheat, dairy, blueberries, peanuts, walnuts, and gluten. It's really hard to find any sort of restaurant that's safe enough to eat or drink at!

I don't usually got to Jack in the Box so was unaware of it. I only drink UNsweetened tea, so would be very disappointed. Maybe if enough people emailed them?

I cannot, in my wildest dreams, imagine that unsweetened tea is not a good seller in the southern US. This is Iced Tea Country!!!!

We dont have Jack in the box where I am, but I know the feeling of something healthy being discontinued....very very frustrating. Here they always use the same excuse...its not a good seller. I cant argue with that, but it makes me mad when I can no longer get the thing I want.

It's so unfortunate that restaurants/fast food places seem to make most of the food unhealthy. Even when it sounds healthy, like fish, fresh broccoli, and potato....it ends up being smothered in butter, oil, sauce; breaded, deep-fried, boiled within an inch of it's life. It takes all of the benefit of the original good food away. I love unsweetened tea. Would be sad if I didn't have it available any more. Wish healthy restaurant food could be on the voters ballot ;)

Thats too bad! I find it difficult to find unsweetned tea anywhere nowadays - many of them are thre fruit teas and its just too much darn sugar!

I am a huge fan of the fajita pita - I order that everytime I go there!

Hang in there!

FitBit Friend!

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

SP has recently linked up with FitBit. I have one and like it a lot. Pedometers are intended to track your steps...and fitbit does that...but I also am finding out that it can serve as a motivator for just a bit more.

Last night soon before bedtime I realized how close I was to the 10000 steps we aim for each day. I was at about 9030. When I took the dog out, I stayed on the porch and began lightly jogging in place to try to get those steps up. I kept checking...and kept jogging...and in the end, DID get over 10000 steps.

I have also found myself doing the same sort of thing with climbing stairs. Pushing extra (sometimes right before going to bed!) to get those 10 flights or to reach a slightly higher goal. (just realized this would be a good blog topic). Anyway...I am proud of myself with this little tool that has pushed me into more movement!

FitBit is not perfect...and I recognize that, but it certainly has proven to be a helpful tool and very interesting to me. I have learned a lot about myself..especially about my sleep patterns (better than I thought!) It is my third effort at wearing a pedometer and this seems much more useable and effective than the first two.

Ahh..one more point...since FitBit has linked with SP...I am finding that FitBit credits me with more activity than I was logging myself. I only was counting what I could actually track...the number of stairs, the time I walked for exercise. This has proven to be quite interesting.

I do love this little tool that has become my constant companion.

I've had a few pedometers and they have all failed rather quickly - even the $30 one! If these really are sturdier then the investment would be worth it. I miss the motivation of a working pedometer.

Revelation...can it really be so?

Monday, October 08, 2012

There is a 70% off sale at one of my favorite clothing shops. I rarely (make that never) can buy anything in there at full price. Today I dashed in to see what I could find on sale..had two gift cards to spend. The saleslady and I met right off..and I told her how much I love the clothing there..especially for wearing to my dance classes. What kind of dance?" she asked. Ballroom and the skirts from here have been such fun to wear. As I began looking I pulled two shirts off the rack to try...but one is a size 16 and one a size 14. I wear size 18...or do I?

Tried on both shirts..both FIT. Then the sales lady brought me four skirts...sizes 14 and 16. THEY all fit. I commented on the pants I am wearing..a recent purchase in size 18 but I have to roll the waist band. We also noted that the size XL shirt I am wearing is sailing on me. When did I drop a size in my clothes? CAN IT RALLY BE SO?

Anyway...I recently purchased a bunch of shirts etc. on sale at another store...all in 18 or XL. I had noted that they seemed long, but they are knit and comfy. Now I know why. I still find knits more comfortable since they give...but that last five pounds has made a HUGE difference in even woven fabric clothing.

SO I have discovered today that I have apparently FINALLY begun the transition into smaller clothing. Now to go visit my closets and see what fits again after all this time! WHOO HOO!!! (BTW...I purchased both shirts and all four skirts.) Can't wait to wear them to dance in!! emoticon
