Oh that does look like fun and gives me a warm glow of memory from my kids days of dancing. I took dancing as a teen and LOVED it. My first hubby LOVED dancing and we did regularly, 2nd hubby toooooo shy, so thats pretty much the end of my dancing days.

meat glue

Monday, May 09, 2011

I first heard of this a while ago..but today received an email with the following info. I thought others might find this interesting...and important!

Cow's blood enzyme used to glue food; raises health, faith issues
By Carol Forsloff.

The next time you eat chicken nuggets you might want to think again about what is used to mold the casing for it as it comes from cow’s blood which raises dietary questions as well as faith-based issues.
Vegetarians, vegans, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Seventh-Day Adventists, Buddhists and Jews have taboos against the eating of meat, especially products made from animal blood. Not knowing what holds certain foods together has created consternation among health-conscious and religious groups, despite the fact that almost every country in Europe last year approved the use of meat glue or a substance called thrombian or transolutaminase. That is the meat blood enzyme that is used to hold together a variety of different foods.

That is SHOCKING. Its the first time I've ever seen something like that! My poor hubby has a particularly sensitive tummy and often ends up really sick with diarrhoea after eating out in restaurants or take out. Makes me think. Definitely going to show this to him. Going vegetarian looks more appealing by the minute.

I listened to it too and it is banned in some countries but not here. It means we have to be even more careful what kind of meat we buy. On Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, he showed another horrible process that meat especially the nuggets and hamburger goes through. All the parts are put through a wash of some type, can't remember what it was, and then formed into the nuggets and hamburger. YUCK!

The hiatus should be over!

Sunday, May 01, 2011

I was doing really well for a while there. Don't know why, but I seem to have gone through a "burned out" stage...I didn't eat well, didn't exercise regularly (or even want to) and barely tracked anything. Blech! And of course, I have paid for it on the scale and in how I feel.

My lack of caution allowed my blood sugars to climb..not good. And of course, my body reported back...I have a canker sore in my mouth, I had a few nights of leg cramps and poor sleep...and the ringing in my ears got louder. All right already!!! I got the point!

Today has been better, though not good exactly either with food or exercise. I AM trying to get myself refocussed.

I also had the unpleasant surprise of having my computer zapped by lightening on Wed...pretty much AFTER all the storms had gone through. I am using my elderly laptop....and today IT suddenly went on a high alert security upset...which effectively stopped me from doing ANYTHING. My wonderful son in law was able to get whatever was happening resolved and I am able to be back online. I have also lined up someone to see if anything is salvageable from my big computer.

My final bit of news is one I wish I had photos for...I think. About a week or so ago, I asked my husband if he would consider taking a dancing lesson. AND HE SAID YES! I was astonished!!! There is a group beginners class on Thursdays so we went. (DH has applied for a new job and since we hadn't heard yet, I figured we had better go before the job kicked in..then who knows when we could go!)

We learned the most basic elementary steps of the waltz, the rumba and swing. On Saturday we had the "free" private lesson to practice and improve on what we had learned. It was fun doing it together emoticon...more than DH had expected. He said it was easier with music. lol emoticon This is the sales pitch lesson...and to my delight...DH signed us up for three more private lessons and that includes three "parties" which are really just social dance times to practice with instructors there to help. SO, Tuesday evening we go again!!!

One interesting thing I discovered is that I hardly have ANY shoes with leather soles...except for little dress shoes that I would never be able to keep on dancing! We shall see if I need dancing shoes "down the road". emoticon

CINA-MINI 5/2/2011 4:19PM

When it comes to dancing, I am too shy. My DH enjoys dancing, just he is really terrible at it. Instead of telling him how bad he is, I just avoid all scenes with dancing! lol
I am going through that exact same thing with my fitness and eating. The scale is telling me I need to get back to work, but I am not quite ready to jump back in. We have our DC in June. So maybe next month I will get "back on" the wagon. I still will go for a walk every now and then, but a REAL workout has to wait until I am ready.
Hugs!

Meeting Friends!

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

I "met" HeatherinSC some yrs ago on another website. We have chatted on FB and on several other websites for a long time. I met Heather's son Barry last year. Today, I finally got to meet Heather in person along with another son, Eric.

There is a family event taking place here in the town where I live...and Heather took time out of all their family doings to come out to my farm. We spent several hours together, enjoying lunch and touring my family history through the old house we live in.

Just before they had to leave, we took a few photos...with her son manning her camera and my husband manning mine. These pics are from MY camera.

Posing for Heather's camera:

And outside in the drizzly weather for a pic that didn't require a flash:

HEATHER....I loved getting to meet you. Thanks so much for coming!!

pin curls

Monday, April 18, 2011

Someone asked to see pics regarding my pincurls. I attempted to get photos by myself...so don't know that these are the best pictures. I used a hand mirror to see what the camera was seeing. Interesting proceedure for photos! lol

BUT, here you are:

I set my hair Saturday night and left the pincurls pinned all day so that my hair MIGHT hold the curl through the Memorial observance Sunday evening. My hair is naturally VERY fine and VERY straight and there is not all that much of it.

Unpinned...not yet brushed out.

The brush out. It did pretty well at holding for me. I don't use hairspray at all...partly because I don't like it but also for those who cope with chemical sensitivity issues.

SUPER DUPER hair curls. I wasn't as fortunate as the others in your congr. I ended up sitting next to Mrs Perfume.....ended up with streaming eyes, runny nose and a thick head. But fortunately it cleared soon enough once outdoors.
I didnt realize before from your other pics how beautiful and blond your hair is. Great!

Beautiful hair! I did pin curls this past week, too! Must be something in the water. I find I have better luck with my hair holding the curl if I just finger-comb it instead of brush it out. I also put it back up in huge pin curls at night on top of my head.

Thank you SO MUCH for being respectful of those of us with chemical sensitivity. Nothing is worse than walking into a gathering of people and getting a migraine, or worse yet an asthma attack, from someone's perfume, aftershave, hair spray, body lotion, etc. They're even making shampoos so smelly I can't handle being in the same room with a person who's used one.

Sorry, didn't mean to get on my soapbox, but obviously it's a hot-button topic for me, and I'm so grateful for your respect.
