Just start off stupid.

Wednesday, June 01, 2011

I always think of new months as a fresh start. I sometimes look forward to them eagerly.

Today, the first of the month, also coincided with the Sr. Discount Day at Kroger...I can't afford not to take advantage of 10% off all my groceries...so I was out the door by six am. Home by 8:30. BUT I had already, even after talking with myself about unhealthy choices, gotten a McDonald's chicken biscuit and diet coke. emoticonWHAT? emoticon I keep telling myself "never again" for they just are not as good as they used to be and they are terrible for us to eat...but every once in a while, I stupidly choose to go astray anyway. NOT an auspicious start. emoticon I have just about kicked the diet coke habit...but occasionally indulge in that when I am "out".

Ahhhh..but it gets worse. Unloading all the groceries...I "sampled" the small box of Belgian chocolate cookies that I got with a store coupon (DH never got any of these, but HE has no weight problems, so he can have treats like this now and then). Sample...nah. I ate the whole thing (four servings!) emoticon That on top of the stupid chicken biscuit AND diet coke.

I did get out and mow for an hour after all that. I probably won't be hungry till dinner. I have to wonder whatever possessed me to even want to eat that stuff...on my first day of a new month...when I was going to enjoy a fresh start.

Well, the damage is done. The "fresh start" starts NOW...at noon instead of in the morning. I may have started out stupid, but I don't have to stay there!

Hope everyone ELSE has a great fresh start this June 1st! emoticon

Don't beat yourself up! We're not perfect so we all make mistakes, the important thing is that you start fresh again and not let that ruin all the hard work you've already put in. You got this!!

Asta, yours is mild compared to my lousy eating yesterday. Lets just say, I ate a whole bag of barbeque chips all by myself. We all do things like this every so often. So, don't look back, tomorrow is another day.

Enjoy tonight emoticon emoticon

Thanks for the support, my friends. I don't think of my self as stupid...just what I did this morning...and with an added mishap this afternoon. Argghh. I hate that those kinds of things seem to build on each other. ***sigh*** Hopefully, I have it out of my system now. As Michelle said...out of the way for this month. LOL (I WISH!).

Love you all!! Thanks again. emoticon

Yeah. You had a moment of weakness, but you handled it in a very fine way. The thing we don't want to do is let that sort of thing take over. You could have easily said, "Well, that's it." and just kept going, but you didn't. Good for you!!!!!

Oh, yeah...and I have hit myself in the head with my hand a few times too. LOL

Look at it this way Asta, you were just getting the "stupid" (as you say) out of the way for the month!!! Now you can go about your month with no mishaps.

Have a great month!

You're far from stupid, my friend ... you're human! We all have mishaps. 1 step back, 2 steps forward (not exactly how that goes but it's how I like to look at it). emoticon Anyway, you've made the decision to move ahead and that's the important part. emoticon emoticon

Beyonce is trying to get kids moving.

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

I was reading about cellulose in our diets...and then followed a link that led me to this: planetgreen.discovery.com/food-healt
h/beyonce-releases-move-your-body-vide
o-to-end-childhood-obesity.html

I could do without the flag waving part, but otherwise thought this was something kids would be drawn to. Hope her effort bears results.

I couldn't understand all the words..but sure did get the point. I have seen videos of toddlers trying to imitate some of her other song/videos. This should get bigger kids going!

I think anything that makes exercise fun is a good idea. I understand that T-Tapp is also being used in some schools...unlike the Beyonce thing, you don't need a lot of space to do T-Tapp. It is quick and easy, also.

Here is a link so some of the T-Tapp stuff: http://t-tapp.com/hoedownshowdown/i

I saw that video also and really liked it. She was asked by Michelle Obama to remake the original song to fit in with Michelle's fight against childhood obesity. Guess that's where the flag waving came in (I could do without that myself).

Hope it does. With the schools doing away with PE and most of the recesses mixed with horrible school food, their obesity rate is terrible.

meat glue

Monday, May 09, 2011

I first heard of this a while ago..but today received an email with the following info. I thought others might find this interesting...and important!

Cow's blood enzyme used to glue food; raises health, faith issues
By Carol Forsloff.

The next time you eat chicken nuggets you might want to think again about what is used to mold the casing for it as it comes from cow’s blood which raises dietary questions as well as faith-based issues.
Vegetarians, vegans, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Seventh-Day Adventists, Buddhists and Jews have taboos against the eating of meat, especially products made from animal blood. Not knowing what holds certain foods together has created consternation among health-conscious and religious groups, despite the fact that almost every country in Europe last year approved the use of meat glue or a substance called thrombian or transolutaminase. That is the meat blood enzyme that is used to hold together a variety of different foods.

That is SHOCKING. Its the first time I've ever seen something like that! My poor hubby has a particularly sensitive tummy and often ends up really sick with diarrhoea after eating out in restaurants or take out. Makes me think. Definitely going to show this to him. Going vegetarian looks more appealing by the minute.

I listened to it too and it is banned in some countries but not here. It means we have to be even more careful what kind of meat we buy. On Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, he showed another horrible process that meat especially the nuggets and hamburger goes through. All the parts are put through a wash of some type, can't remember what it was, and then formed into the nuggets and hamburger. YUCK!

The hiatus should be over!

Sunday, May 01, 2011

I was doing really well for a while there. Don't know why, but I seem to have gone through a "burned out" stage...I didn't eat well, didn't exercise regularly (or even want to) and barely tracked anything. Blech! And of course, I have paid for it on the scale and in how I feel.

My lack of caution allowed my blood sugars to climb..not good. And of course, my body reported back...I have a canker sore in my mouth, I had a few nights of leg cramps and poor sleep...and the ringing in my ears got louder. All right already!!! I got the point!

Today has been better, though not good exactly either with food or exercise. I AM trying to get myself refocussed.

I also had the unpleasant surprise of having my computer zapped by lightening on Wed...pretty much AFTER all the storms had gone through. I am using my elderly laptop....and today IT suddenly went on a high alert security upset...which effectively stopped me from doing ANYTHING. My wonderful son in law was able to get whatever was happening resolved and I am able to be back online. I have also lined up someone to see if anything is salvageable from my big computer.

My final bit of news is one I wish I had photos for...I think. About a week or so ago, I asked my husband if he would consider taking a dancing lesson. AND HE SAID YES! I was astonished!!! There is a group beginners class on Thursdays so we went. (DH has applied for a new job and since we hadn't heard yet, I figured we had better go before the job kicked in..then who knows when we could go!)

We learned the most basic elementary steps of the waltz, the rumba and swing. On Saturday we had the "free" private lesson to practice and improve on what we had learned. It was fun doing it together emoticon...more than DH had expected. He said it was easier with music. lol emoticon This is the sales pitch lesson...and to my delight...DH signed us up for three more private lessons and that includes three "parties" which are really just social dance times to practice with instructors there to help. SO, Tuesday evening we go again!!!

One interesting thing I discovered is that I hardly have ANY shoes with leather soles...except for little dress shoes that I would never be able to keep on dancing! We shall see if I need dancing shoes "down the road". emoticon

When it comes to dancing, I am too shy. My DH enjoys dancing, just he is really terrible at it. Instead of telling him how bad he is, I just avoid all scenes with dancing! lol
I am going through that exact same thing with my fitness and eating. The scale is telling me I need to get back to work, but I am not quite ready to jump back in. We have our DC in June. So maybe next month I will get "back on" the wagon. I still will go for a walk every now and then, but a REAL workout has to wait until I am ready.
Hugs!
