The hiatus should be over!

Sunday, May 01, 2011

I was doing really well for a while there. Don't know why, but I seem to have gone through a "burned out" stage...I didn't eat well, didn't exercise regularly (or even want to) and barely tracked anything. Blech! And of course, I have paid for it on the scale and in how I feel.

My lack of caution allowed my blood sugars to climb..not good. And of course, my body reported back...I have a canker sore in my mouth, I had a few nights of leg cramps and poor sleep...and the ringing in my ears got louder. All right already!!! I got the point!

Today has been better, though not good exactly either with food or exercise. I AM trying to get myself refocussed.

I also had the unpleasant surprise of having my computer zapped by lightening on Wed...pretty much AFTER all the storms had gone through. I am using my elderly laptop....and today IT suddenly went on a high alert security upset...which effectively stopped me from doing ANYTHING. My wonderful son in law was able to get whatever was happening resolved and I am able to be back online. I have also lined up someone to see if anything is salvageable from my big computer.

My final bit of news is one I wish I had photos for...I think. About a week or so ago, I asked my husband if he would consider taking a dancing lesson. AND HE SAID YES! I was astonished!!! There is a group beginners class on Thursdays so we went. (DH has applied for a new job and since we hadn't heard yet, I figured we had better go before the job kicked in..then who knows when we could go!)

We learned the most basic elementary steps of the waltz, the rumba and swing. On Saturday we had the "free" private lesson to practice and improve on what we had learned. It was fun doing it together emoticon...more than DH had expected. He said it was easier with music. lol emoticon This is the sales pitch lesson...and to my delight...DH signed us up for three more private lessons and that includes three "parties" which are really just social dance times to practice with instructors there to help. SO, Tuesday evening we go again!!!

One interesting thing I discovered is that I hardly have ANY shoes with leather soles...except for little dress shoes that I would never be able to keep on dancing! We shall see if I need dancing shoes "down the road". emoticon

When it comes to dancing, I am too shy. My DH enjoys dancing, just he is really terrible at it. Instead of telling him how bad he is, I just avoid all scenes with dancing! lol
I am going through that exact same thing with my fitness and eating. The scale is telling me I need to get back to work, but I am not quite ready to jump back in. We have our DC in June. So maybe next month I will get "back on" the wagon. I still will go for a walk every now and then, but a REAL workout has to wait until I am ready.

That would be a dream come true for me. My sons did Latin-American and Ballroom dancing. I wanted all of us to do the same, but my shy hubby just said NO outright. Maybe with time passing I should ask again too.

That's great! I would love dancing lessons. Hope your PC has some salvageable parts. When my laptop crashed several months back I was a mess. Set up one of our PC's (we have a few) and made do with it. I was so happy to have the laptop fixed. Hope that never happens again.

Meeting Friends!

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

I "met" HeatherinSC some yrs ago on another website. We have chatted on FB and on several other websites for a long time. I met Heather's son Barry last year. Today, I finally got to meet Heather in person along with another son, Eric.

There is a family event taking place here in the town where I live...and Heather took time out of all their family doings to come out to my farm. We spent several hours together, enjoying lunch and touring my family history through the old house we live in.

Just before they had to leave, we took a few photos...with her son manning her camera and my husband manning mine. These pics are from MY camera.

Posing for Heather's camera:

Posing for My camera:

And outside in the drizzly weather for a pic that didn't require a flash:

HEATHER....I loved getting to meet you. Thanks so much for coming!!

pin curls

Monday, April 18, 2011

Someone asked to see pics regarding my pincurls. I attempted to get photos by don't know that these are the best pictures. I used a hand mirror to see what the camera was seeing. Interesting proceedure for photos! lol

BUT, here you are:

I set my hair Saturday night and left the pincurls pinned all day so that my hair MIGHT hold the curl through the Memorial observance Sunday evening. My hair is naturally VERY fine and VERY straight and there is not all that much of it.

Unpinned...not yet brushed out.

The brush out. It did pretty well at holding for me. I don't use hairspray at all...partly because I don't like it but also for those who cope with chemical sensitivity issues.

SUPER DUPER hair curls. I wasn't as fortunate as the others in your congr. I ended up sitting next to Mrs Perfume.....ended up with streaming eyes, runny nose and a thick head. But fortunately it cleared soon enough once outdoors.
I didnt realize before from your other pics how beautiful and blond your hair is. Great!

Beautiful hair! I did pin curls this past week, too! Must be something in the water. I find I have better luck with my hair holding the curl if I just finger-comb it instead of brush it out. I also put it back up in huge pin curls at night on top of my head.

Thank you SO MUCH for being respectful of those of us with chemical sensitivity. Nothing is worse than walking into a gathering of people and getting a migraine, or worse yet an asthma attack, from someone's perfume, aftershave, hair spray, body lotion, etc. They're even making shampoos so smelly I can't handle being in the same room with a person who's used one.

Sorry, didn't mean to get on my soapbox, but obviously it's a hot-button topic for me, and I'm so grateful for your respect.

pants pic

Monday, April 04, 2011

I posted about my bargains...but my efforts at photos were handicapped by needing a flash. This morning, I arrived at work...I nanny for my 18 mo old grandson...and they were out in the backyard running and playing in the wind. Mommy was trying to get a specific picture to use as a get well card for DGS's great uncle who was recently in a serious 4-wheeler accident. SO, they had the camera out!

I asked if she would take a shot of my new pants so I could post here. One pic..and here it is:

My hair etc weren't fixed for photos...and the wind was blowing like a gale...and I didn't have my new jacket to show...but I am really happy with those new pants.

Asta, I thought I was the only one with that problem! I tried on some Lee Riders stretch (walmart) and they are nice fitting. They aren't baggy anywhere and they have a "tummy panel". I only bought 2 pair, but they fit so nicely!

You look beautiful! You are all those things, tall, thin, lean and beautiful!
Great job on your progress, it's really showing!

The pants really do make a huge difference, but I have a tummy...camoflaged in the photo. The problem I have found in getting pants that fit is that to get over my tummy, I have to buy a size that also seems to mean a longer than I need crotch and very baggy pant legs. I am guessing that most folks who need the tummy space are also large in all the other areas. I have seen ladies in stretch pants that definitely should NOT be out in public in them...and want never to look that way, esp. not in public places.

I am amazed, though, in how I feel wearing these I really AM thinner and taller and leaner! I admit, too, vain as it is, I love it!!!

LOL Celeste...not a four wheelchair accident. He had some kind of crash on a 4-wheel all terrain vehicle. He was out with two other people on a trail...he was in the lead, went over the crest of a hill and when the other two caught up, he was on the ground, seriously injured. He is on the mend now...but I am sure will be feeling the effects of that accident for a long time!

Yesterday had a chance to do some just-for-fun shopping. Had a $10.00 off coupon so DIL, 2 kids and I went shopping. We just wandered through the store...and almost out..I spotted workout wear on sale. I have been thinking about trying some workout pants. I am horrified at how my regular pants all look...really baggy in the legs/rear! I was astounded in how these fit and feel...and LOOK! They were originally $40.00. On sale for half price..then with my coupon..I got them for about ten dollars. NOT bad!

Then, today, I took a $15.00 gift card that expires today to Coldwater Creek. They are having the up-to-70% off sale. I wandered...didn't find much. Tried on one shirt but didn't like it. As I was about to give up, spotted two jackets folded on a bench. One was WAY too big, but the other came home with ME! The price on the tag...originally $69.99 but now....$14.99! SO...with my coupon, it was free! I purchased two small items so DID pay something, but not for that jacket!

Next stop was for SAS shoes. I have had injuries to both feet in yrs past..and good support/comfortable shoes or sandals are really important to me. I had a $15.00 off deal..and the shoes I selected were already on sale (for this week) though I didn't get a bargain like my other two, I still managed to save on something I was going to purchase anyway.

All in all, I am quite pleased!!! emoticon

I l0ve it when I find sales like these. I remember one time I found a $7 pair of jeans (Old Navy) reduced from $40, a $13 pair of Nike slip-ons (DSW), and a $15 pair of Steve Madden heels (DSW) all in the same day. And I had a gift card for DSW, so I really only paid the $7.

    Pics?? :)

I love bargains too! I bought my DD a dress last week and had to spend $40 which seemed so expensive! But she is so tiny she is hard to shop for and find things that fit her. I did find another dress for her for $18 so that was good. Kids clothes look too babyish for her, but juniors are usually too baggy on her. So when she finds something she really likes I try not to balk at the price. Now to try and find new dress shoes..she wears a size 8-9 women's and everything looks SO grown up and heels too tall. We will go again next week and look at more stores.
I'll be glad to finish losing weight so I can buy end of season deals and know they'll fit when the season rolls around again!

Yay, a bargain day! Makes shopping worthwhile! I am determined to never buy anything for more than 50% of retail and usually only pay 25% or less of retail. My pioneer daughter is also a real bargain shopper. We wait until end of season stuff is 70% off the last markdown of 50% so have scored big on winter coats (which she always needs for service). I tend to buy for everyone in the family if I find a good deal - or used to before I retired - now I have to be a little more careful with my spending, and am trying to learn to do that.

Is this something only women get a thrill from -- I'm not sure - lol!

Last time, got two skirts for total of $8.00. Was shocked to get home and discover the original prices were around 95$ each!
