My First Gain

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

"You're never beaten until you admit it." ~George S. Patton

Well, the title of the blog says it all. I gained this week. A pound. It's the first time since rejoining SP at the beginning of October. I'm not at all surprised though. This past week has been a bit of a free-for-all and I know it will continue tomorrow and probably Friday just because I have no intention of celebrating Turkey Day any differently than I usually do...with a delicious dinner, followed by pie, and then leftover sandwiches later in the day, followed by more pie...and lots of wine to top it off. emoticon This is my favorite holiday and, unfortunately, it's very food/beverage centered, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I have 364 (ok, well after Friday, Christmas, New Year's, and my birthday it's really more like 359-ish) days a year to be good. I do make a promise to myself to get back on track right away on Saturday. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!!

Well, a big part of the solution is recognizing wherein the problem lies - so you're a big step the right direction! This IS a journey and not a destination so it's good to have a balanced attitude about the whole thing!

Sometimes that pound is all we need for more motivation to watch our figures and charts. Turkey Day is a hard day not to over eat, especially when you go to someone elses home to eat and they don't have anything that might be a substitute. I tend to eat more fruit and the vegi sides and then make sure I get some of the turkey white meat. The pie is what is hard for me to resist, put pumpkin pie does have less calories then apple, or pecan pie.

Your doing great in your Life Style Change, Keep Up the fantastic work!

HI !!! Remember with SPARKS it's a "LIFESTYLE" we are living,,,and for some (I do not celebrate any) this means HOLDIDAYS. If you enjoy them,,, you DO SO. As you said,,, you eat well ALL the other days,,,and on SPARKS we are "NOT" A "DIET" which says NO NO DO NOT HAVE AN ENJOYABLE TIME !! And comes with GUILT !!! Here we do NOT come with GUILT.

So we'll see ya back on Sat,,, I HOPE the gain for the week isn't to bad for the team,,and for YOU !! NON THE LESS you KNOW and I KNOW it'll come RIGHT BACK OFF so it's NOT THE WORSE in life.

I ALSO Love turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sands,,,, which I DID have a few weeks ago, when I fixed a turkey. YUMMY !! AND YES I DID ALSO Gain, but, now it's GOING BACK DOWN !! PHEW !

Just a suggestion, but more exercise and you can still eat what you want. Take a couple of walks, eat in between, maybe it will help you some. I know that I am planning on eating too, not like I used to, but like I did last year, I had all the thanksgiving stuff in moderation-pie too and I didn't even gain-I didn't go for seconds and thirds, haha. I was really surprised, My gain came at Christmas. I wouldn't feel bad, like you say, it is only once a year and we can work hard for the next 25 days before the next one. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, sorry about your gain, but you'll get it off.

I like the balanced approach. I am not a Thanksgiving day food type. I am a ham girl. So Christmas I can eat what I want and will focus on recovery afterward. Blessings on your journey.

Week 7

Thursday, November 21, 2013

"The time for action is now. It's never too late to do something." ~Carl Sandburg

I feel like I'm always writing these blogs and saying how terribly I'm doing so I'm going take a different approach today. Week 7 was hit and miss. I lost 2.2 pounds, but to be honest, I'm not sure how since I didn't track my food much and was very limited with my exercise due to injuries. So, what I'm taking away from this is that, even though I may not think I'm doing well, something has obviously stuck. I must be making better choices and consuming less, right? Because I continue to lose...week after week. Some weeks are very small, but they're still a loss. I just realized today that I'm down 12.6 pounds since the beginning of October. That's actually pretty damn impressive for someone who claims to be sucking at this so badly. And that's all I've got to say. emoticon

    HI Jess !!

This is going to sound REALLY STRANGE, but when I am at my WORSE physically, I DO NOT want to PIG OUT !! So when I am sick, or recovering from a surg (when am I NOT?????) I actually LOSE WEIGHT so much EASIER !! I already weighed in for this week,,,,I thought today was Sat,, and its HAHAHA Fri !! I ONLY knew cos I went to do the figures and no one had time for Fri,,,so than I KNEW It was CLERLY Fri !!

The vet has told me "DO NOT AT ALL put ANY type of weight on foot, and DO NOT hurt it at ALL !! it's very fragile at this point." I had a nerve cut so that the pain can NOT travel down the foot,,,, and make me wanna say "Special" words,,which of course I DO NOT DO, but IT HURTS THAT MUCH !!!

So now,,, just awaiting the recovery,, and it's VERY HARD to get up,,,,can only use one leg,,,, try that on crutches,, IMPOSSIBLE if you also can NOT feel ur foot ! The ood one. is starting to hurt,,,and I thought yest it was gonna give out when I was standing,,,, I only stand to transfer from wheelchair,,, to the ladies,,,, and that's NOT the position you wanna be FOUND IN !!! Doing the ladies,,,is QUITE interesting,,,, have to stand by pushing hands on wheel to partly up position,,, than grab the "Grab bar" which is aways away,,,,,,, as going to stand,, than grab the door knob (I have to keep the door open,,, bathroom is not big enough,,thankfully there are NO Windows !) than put my knee down on the chair,,so CAREFULLY to NOT hurt the foot (Surg one) remove clothing,,,, cross legs so that surg one does stay UP in the air as sitting. than reverse when to get back into chair,,,,,so during that I am on ONE FOOT for about 30 seconds,,,, takes it TOLL ! I have neuropathy in that leg;/foot, so I have NO feelings in it,,, and on GREAT DAY with both feet workin,,, I am wobbly. So this is proving to be "QUITE interesting". I have til Dec 2nd to keep this up ! than I'll most likely be allowed to do SHORT walks around apt,,, thankfully it's a good size place, but no stairs. YEAH On the NO STAIRS !!

HUGS kiddo,,,,,, ur doing GREAT !!! We EXPECT To see from you very soon emoticon

Week Six Struggles

"You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there." ~Unknown Author

Another less than impressive week here. Heck, I'll be honest, it wasn't only less than impressive...it was TERRIBLE! I'm floundering with my dedication to this right now. My aunt and uncle got into town a couple weeks ago and we're falling back into the routine of spending the weekends eating out and enjoying a few cocktails. This past weekend we ate out Friday (Italian), Saturday (Mexican), AND Sunday (bar food). Ugh!! This has got to stop! Even the stomach bug I was dealing with this weekend didn't stop the eating. In fact, I found myself comfort eating. Go figure! On top of that, I was still dealing with some back pain and didn't want to push it so I didn't do any exercise. Today I'm back on track with my shakes and will be visiting Planet Beach for a much needed massage. I find that I avoid going there too when I'm off the wagon. Or maybe it's that I fall off the wagon because I stop going there? I really do feel much more motivated to reach my goals when I'm making regular visits and feel like I'm taking care of myself. Interesting correlation? Anyway, no goals to report because I just stopped tracking them by about Thursday last week.

Here are my goals for week 7:

Calories: 1200-1550
Water: 8 cups per day
Exercise: 20 minutes per day, minimum
Sleep: 7 hours per night, minimum

The one up-side to this week? I sill managed to lose 0.6 pounds. I know that's almost nothing, but at least it's still going in the right direction. Although maybe I need to see a gain to snap me back to reality?!

If you saw a GAIN, that'd prob just make ya upset w/urself, and that IS NOT necessary. Instead,,, doing as you just did,, realizing wehre it is ur at,, and than GOING with it,, is GREAT !! NICE JOB, IF you follow thru. That's NOT always easy,,,, esp when we wanna Comfort Eat,,, which tastes ever to nicely, but with the GUILT that comes with it,, when we over do it,,, well,, UGHERS !!!

WISHIN YOU THE BEST Jess !! Plz be careful w/ur back. Hopefully the massage will help. I SURE DO WISH we had a massage school right around here,,, i'd GO AND ENJOY !! maybe I oughtta look into that !

Week Five Wrap Up

Wednesday, November 06, 2013

"It's not whether you get knocked down; it's whether you get up." ~Vince Lombardi

Well, this week was less than impressive. I tweaked my back last week and decided a few days ago that mild exercise wasn't helping it get better so I needed to take some time completely off. It is feeling a bit better now, with just the occasional slight pain/ache so I'll be back at it soon, I hope. I lost, but only 0.2 pounds. At least it wasn't a gain. Here are the stats for the week:

Original Goals
Calorie range: 1200-1550
8 cups of water/day
20 minutes of exercise/day

Wednesday, 10/30
Calories: 1557
Water: 8
Exercise: 20 mins hula hooping (158 calories burned)

Thursday, 10/31
Calories: 1855
Water: 8
Exercise: 45 mins yoga (157 calories burned)

Friday, 11/1
Calories: 1593
Water: 9
Exercise: 20 mins hula hooping (158 calories burned)

Saturday, 11/2
Calories: "Free Day"
Water: "Free Day"
Exercise: "Free Day"

Sunday, 11/3
Calories: 1419
Water: 1
Exercise: 0

Monday, 11/4
Calories: 1749
Water: 9
Exercise: 0

Tuesday, 11/5
Calories: 1481
Water: 6
Exercise: 0

Here are the goals I've set for myself for the coming week:

Calories: 1200-1550
Water: 8 cups per day, minimum
Exercise: work up to 30 minutes per day once my back is at 100%
Sleep: shoot for 8 hours per night

SO VERY DELIGHTED ur back is getting much better !! Mine never did,,, so U are VERY Fortunate !! YEAH !!

Will look forward to ur being back w/us on the exercise, but ONLY WHEN UR ABLE to be HEALTHLY SO !!! :) Do NOT need ya to injure it for the "Sake of points" and in turn,,,do such damage,,,, ur stuck with that for life !! UGHErS !AA! Believe me, this is NOT fun !! I had fractured mine as a teen,,, and than though it hurt a little bit,,,, I did OK,, was working full time,, doing a vol position for 90 hrs a month,,, and than KA BOOM !!! 18 wheeler hit us, 3 times,, we hit the guardrail 2 times,,,,and now my back is a GONER !!! So I just always try to look for the positives in life,,,it could of been MUCH worse,,, could of died. Instead I have been able to watch my GKids grow up ! WOOHOOOO ! AND THE FUN WE ALL HAD !!!! I am grateful for this.

HUGS !

The Week I Met a Goal

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

"The first and the best victory is to conquer self." ~Plato

This has been a good week. I lost 2.2 pounds, met my goal for my dietbet.com challenge, won some money from it, and had a pretty cool NSV. I even managed to stay on track with diet and exercise most of the week! It wasn't perfect, but it was pretty darn close. :)

This is how I did:

Original Goals
Calorie Range: 1200-1550
8 cups of water/day
20 minutes of exercise/day

Wednesday, 10/23
Calories: 1491
Water: 9
Exercise: None

Thursday, 10/24
Calories: 1398
Water: 8
Exercise: 20 mins hula hooping (159 calories burned)

Friday, 10/25
Calories: 1433
Water: 8
Exercise: 20 mins walking (99 calories burned)

Saturday, 10/26
Calories: 1627
Water: 6
Exercise: 20 mins hula hooping (159 calories burned)

Sunday, 10/27
Calories: 1403
Water: 8
Exercise: 20 mins walking (117 calories burned)

Monday, 10/28
Calories: 1711
Water: 9
Exercise: 30 mins hula hooping (238 calories burned)

Tuesday, 10/29
Calories: 1482
Water: 10
Exercise: None

Now for the NSV. It might be a strange one, but it really made me stop and think. I had to take pics to submit for my dietbet challenge final weight (they verify with starting/ending pics of full body and scale w/ a code word that's given the day the weigh-in is due). Well, I decided to take it further and took other pics for my "before" shots for this journey. Yeah, I know I'm four weeks in and down about 8 pounds, but I didn't think of it then. Or maybe it's more accurate to say I didn't want to do it then. Anyway, I went all the way. We're talking bra/panties shots (front, side, and back views), face shot, and even close-up shots of the thigh & butt cellulite. Here's where the NSV occurred....I wasn't thoroughly disgusted by them. I actually thought to myself, "I have a pretty nice ass!" Haha! Yeah, my stomach is a bit more rounded than I would like, there is a bit of a back fat roll, and a slight double chin is still hanging around, but I was surprisingly ok with the shots. In fact, I was more than ok with them...I could actually appreciate the sexy that I was bringin'. LOL! I could appreciate the curve of my body, the smoothness of my skin, even the imperfections. I don't know if I can honestly say that I could even ever do that at my thinnest. I know I have a long way to go, but the comfort I feel in my own skin right now is probably one of the biggest successes I will experience along the way.

HI Jess !! I OUGHT to try hula hooping,, well I WANT TO, but than again,, I just remembered as I typed this,,,, my hips are very bad,, and I had fractured my back ways back, and now it has horrid arthritis. So I guess for me that's OUT, but I LOVE that ur DOING IT !! That's GREAT Kiddo !! CONGRATTERS !!

ALSO I LOVE ur NSV !! I had thought the other day of doing that, but than I CHICKENED OUT !! Sides I am now 80.75lbs DOWN from where I started !! LOL So it'd NOT be my "original" or even CLOSE to it,,, I DO have a pic that was taken of me back when I did weigh 288,,, and I KEPT that shirt/pants,,,,, so that when I DO reach my goal,,, I'll show them on or up against myself. NSV are more important to me than a weight number. I feel you with liking the look in the mirror. I'm just now getting to the point where eating healthy and exercise is paying off with some muscle definition and smaller belly.
