Meat Not Required...

Thursday, March 04, 2010

OMG - I was able to have supper without meat and feel satisfied! This is a big step - a meal just wasn't considered a meal without some kind of meat and some kind of potatoes. I had a larger than normal meal at lunch today, as we had a pot-luck meeting at work. I came home late and tired. Tonight, I had a mixture of whole grains and berries. I'm quite satisfied! I'm not saying that this will be my preference, but for those nights when I've worked late, and have no energy left to cook a late supper, I know I can enjoy a quick and satisfying meal.

If at first you don't succeed...

Monday, March 01, 2010

I originally signed up in 2007 and never really spent much time getting to know the site. I started again in early January of this year, and have lost just over 30 pounds simply by making some changes in diet - limiting my sugar and refined starch intake. Now I want to get to know this site to make use of its many resources, to obtain support and hopefully support others as well. Any suggestions on how best to use this site would be welcomed! emoticon

I would definitely use the nutrition page. Tracking everything you eat is a big key. Another would be the fitness page, track every you do there also. I have found the tracking everything keeps you ahead of the game. It's some leg work, looking at labels, and putting in the info, but it's worth it in the end. emoticon

Getting Started

Saturday, January 09, 2010

January 9, 2010
Day 1 - I'm guessing at my weight of 385. I don't have a scale that will weigh me. I'll have to update this when I get weighed at my next medical appointment. I'm at my heaviest ever. I have over 200 pounds to lose, and so I know this is going to take a long time. I'm in it for the long haul.

Welcome! You can do this. It's just one good choice at a time. My best advice is to making logging on to SP the first thing you do every morning. Try to accumulate as many SparkPoints as you can every morning. It seems silly - you don't really 'get' anything for the points, just a picture of a prettier trophy. But what it will do is get you really involved in every aspect of the site, and help keep you motivated.

I also highly recommend seeking out the SparkPages and blogs of people who have lost a significant amount of weight. When I started, I needed to lose at least 160 lb (not really sure of the best weight for me - I've always been overweight as an adult). That seemed absolutely unimaginable to me. But I started reading more and more blogs by people who had lost 100+ pounds - with some of them, I went back and read their blogs from the beginning. (One of my favorite is BOTZZZ - he's already lost over 200 lb, and is still going strong.) And now I absolutely can envision losing all this weight. I've lost 42 lb since Oct. 14th, and fully expect to be at goal by then end of 2010.

I wish you the best of luck on your journey. You CAN do this!!
