Eat less, "Nothing" to this.

Check out how blending a smoothie longer can add more air and increase your feeling of fullness. I love easy ways to make weight loss easier.

This is an article of a study where they tried making a smoothie 3 different ways and simply by adding more air it increased the volume and the feeling of satiety. Love it!

This is true, Bob. As I mentioned, I have the NutriBullet and when I make my breakfast shake with frozen fruit and bananas I have found that the longer I leave it blending the thicker it gets and the more full I feel afterward. I never understood why it did this, so thank you for the explaination. By the way, I believe the NutriBullet runs at something like 10K RPM's. Let me know if you decide to get it.

Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead.

Saturday, May 11, 2013

Just saw this movie today, and highly recommend it.

Joe Cross did a 60 day juicing fast and it Rebooted his life, he got better from a sickness and lost a massive amount of weight. He started in New York City, then went on a cross country tour and talked to dozens of people about juicing. Answers were about what you would expect. Some liked it and others said it is not for me.

I have done some juicing and will likely not do a strict 10, 30 or 60 day juice regimen, but will start blending more. I may get the Nutri-Bullet as that is highly recommended. One can argue whether juicing or blending is better, One you get fiber and the other you don't. You still get lots of good nutrition and either is 10 x's better than the S.A.D. ( sick or standard American diet) Just getting away from processed foods is a quantum leap.

KISS, Keep it simple stupid, one advantage of blending for me is simplicity, just dump it all in a blender, a high powered one is better, and clean up is a snap, rinse and go! So this beats the mess of juicing not that it is that bad, but again, time and ease are worth something, and the simpler something is the more likely a person will do it.

The movie is free online in a few places "YouTube" and also there is a website:

Bob! I loved this show. (psoriatic arthritis is autoimmune - they also got better because they were gluten-free though this was not talked about, didn't I share that before? I like to mention it because of how ridding gluten helps heal the gut, esp for autoimmune people.) Good for you on the Nutri-bullet! DH gave his to DD for her new apt. I don't think she's used it. I should give her the link to the movie to gear her up?! It was nice to hear from you (surprised actually) - I thought I was laying under the radar. ;) Keep up the great work!!!! I hope you feel a diff.

That was a great movie. I have both a juicer and a blender that I make smoothies in. I make more smoothies than juicing. I add some greek yogurt in for protein.
spinach, kale, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, flaxseed, half a banana,
really, anything you want in there! not broccoli....yuk.
I also make a pumpkin pie smoothie....pumpkin, flax seed, cinnamon, p.pie spice, greek yogurt, almond milk and a little bit of stevia...so good!
enjoy!

Bob, I have got to tell you that I purchased the NutriBullet and, along with my carpet shampooer, it has to be the best purchase I've EVER made. It is true to it's word that the clean-up is a snap. If a person can't get past the pulp this is not for them, but if you can drink a lot of pulp this is a great choice. My favorite foods to extract are:
Breakfast: 1 banana, 1 cup frozen fruit (either mango, strawberries, or peaches), 1 scoop of chocolate flavored Whey Protein Powder, and 1 cup of Silk Almond Milk. It turns out exactly like a milkshake.

Lunch/Dinner: Spinach leaves, cucumber, pear, apple, carrot, celery, and a slice of lemon with the peal left on, topped off with water and a small dash of salt. This turns a lovely shade of green and is rather thick with pulp. It is SO delicious!!!

It's only about $147, and I think that was what I paid when all was said and done - including shipping and taxes and whatnot. It's not called a juicer, and it is not like your typical juicers which pull out the liquid from a freggie and dispose of the pulp. This is called a 'whole food extractor' and the name speaks for itself - it extracts the whole food, leaving no waste. There is even a team here at SP for those of us who use the NutriBullet. Good luck with whatever decision you make, as I'm sure you will not be sorry about the benefits, either way.

I saw the BBC Documentary on "the fast diet" and it released a lot of "rules" about eating - I could well imagine to go on a 60 day juice diet...that would help a lot I think...

    Thanks for the link.

I just got back from a one week business trip. Prior to the trip, I had been eating really well. Low sodium, low fat, low processed foods. During the trip I had a lot of restaurant food and it was amazing the change it made after just 5 days! Back home it took almost a week of good eating to feel normal again.

I am going to have to try blending as a supplement. I have very high regard for fiber, as I have seen health changes from having more of it in my diet. I also like balance. God gave me a variety of teeth, some for cutting, some for shredding, some for grinding, so I take that as a cue that I should do those things. Although, a period of time excluding certain things can be beneficial as well.

Keep us posted on how increasing the juice affects you. It would be interesting to hear from a "real" person with a "real" life what it does or doesn't do for them!

I have started doing some more juicing lately. I also am a firm believer in avoiding the processed and essentially junk food of the fast food places, and boxed and canned foods. Most of our food is fresh and/or frozen and we really find our health is better when we both blend and juice - getting more nutrients and less unnecessary processing.

I agree that strict juicing/blending is not for me. Ditching the processed foods is a start. Thanks for the info!

Cracked New Weight Loss Territory.

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Not as fast as I would like but this is a huge, monumental day for me. I lost 20 lbs. of fat since I joined Spark.

The next big benchmark for me is 247, which will be 30 lbs. lost and the original weight I was at when I joined Spark.

Pretty happy about this.

    Hi Bob

Don't know how this slipped past without me seeing it!

Way to go! I went to the grocery store one time and picked up some chubs of hamburger equivalent to my weight loss, amazing thing to do!

Keep up the good work! As the weather improves (if the snow and cold leave you alone) maybe you can get some healthy foods to pop up in your garden, which is way good for health and weight!

Keep on keeping on, you will get there my friend!

Whales or Wales?

Thursday, February 21, 2013

The other night I overheard three very hefty women talking.

Their accent appeared to be Scottish, so I approached and asked, "Hello, are you three lassies from Scotland ?"

One of them angrily screeched, "It's Wales, Wales you bloody idiot!"

So I apologized and replied, "I am so sorry. Are you three whales from Scotland ?"

And that's the last thing I remember.

Top 10 Fattest States

Sunday, January 06, 2013

About 1 in 3 people in these states are obese, that is scary.

I am not helping statistically at the present moment, but am doing something about it now.

As it stands, obesity rates increased in all states in 2011 not one state had a decline. As for the fattest states of all, this included:

10. Missouri (30.3%)

9. Kentucky (30.4% obese) and Texas (30.4%) (tie)

8. Indiana (30.8%) and South Carolina (30.8%) (tie)

7. Arkansas (30.9%)

6. Oklahoma (31.1%)

5. Michigan (31.3%)

4. Alabama (32.0%)

3. West Virginia (32.4%)

2. Louisiana (33.4%)

1. Mississippi (34.9%)
