Keep on keeping on

Wednesday, March 09, 2011

It appears that I allowed my body to slip into starvation mode. Loosing weight was very difficult and slow so I kept lowering my calories and now it doesn't want to budge at all. The good news is I have increased calories to the 1500 range. The weight is still not moving but I have not gained either. What this means is I probably will not meet my 5% challenge this time. But I continue on as my exercise miles helps the team. I will give my body a couple of weeks to reset and then I should start loosing again. My body is still toning as I have gone from a size 20 to an 18. Not so bad, but I really want to hit that 100 pounds lost mark! I ten pounds to go on that goal, I will not give up. I can't fail if I don't quit!

It's a journey for sure. We learn along the way what works for us and sometimes we have to re-evaluate or change a goal somewhat but we keep on "keeping on"! I just was checking in on you...Be encouraged! You can definitely do this...you are ALREADY doing this!

Just because you have stalled for now doesn't mean it wont pick back up once you get your body back to eating enough calories that you don't drop a lot at once. We still have like 4 more weigh-ins you can still meet your 5% or get close! You can do it!! emoticon emoticon

Don't give up... you can do it!! That's great that you're fitting into a smaller size... sometimes the scale isn't our friend, but a tape measure can me!! GREAT JOB so far!!

My plateau hit around thanksgiving...it's frustrating.

Somehow weight does come off, but not every week like it used to be! Other meassures are very important to focus on! Like you said all we can do is keep on!
Good Job so far! And we can get there!

Riding the upper range

Friday, March 04, 2011

OK after a week where I did not loose anything (this happens about once a month). I have decided to take advice given many times to me. I used to ride the lower number in my calorie range, around 1200. I have have decided to take a few days and ride the upper end of 1500 calories to increase my metabolism. I continue to exercise and drink my water.

My doctor just gave me the same advice. I told her that I hardly ever go over 1000 calories a day...mostly between 800-900, and she suggested I eat more to lose weight. I know that sounds crazy, but I am going to try it. I haven't managed to get my calories up yet...I can't eat if I am not hungry or on the go! I wonder if drinking a protein shake or something like that would help, just to add the calories...well I guess the protein wouldn't hurt since I never get enough of that either. I am going to have to check out the labels. emoticon

I can't fail if I don't quit

Wednesday, March 02, 2011

Here I am again getting in a funk because the scale refuses to move down. I tell you, the longer I have been on this eating plan, the harder it is to make that scale move. I know my friends and family are sick of hearing me moan about it. *taking a deep breath* OK then, I will re-examine my measuring of foods. I will make sure I get in that daily exercise and now that the weather is getting better I hope to add walking (perhaps even running) to my daily exercise. I will make myself not get discouraged when the scale refuses to move, or *shutter* even goes up a pound or two before going back down, like it has this week. I just keep repeating...I can't fail if I don't quit..... I can't fail if I don't quit...I can't fail if I don't quit.

You won't quit, and you won't fail!!! When you don't feel movement off the mark, sometimes just a little extra boost - walk a little faster, try a hill, drink more water, measure your portions- can make the difference that gets you going again.
Rock that and have a great day!

What a great quote..."I can't fail if I don't quit." I love it! Don't get discouraged about the scale not going down. Are you measuring? I bet you are losing inches!!!! Let us know if measuring food better helps and incorporating different exercises like walking/running jump starts your loss again! BIG HUGS and good luck!!

I sure find when I exercise pretty much every day for an hour or more and get to the sweating point, I seem to lose better. I also have been moving from 1200 calories to 1550 on purpose instead of trying to stay at the lower end of my calorie range. And I don't think I have been hurt by an occasional day when I was quite a bit over my range (like maybe one day a month). I wonder if that doesn't keep the body wondering what is coming and assuming it isn't starvation. Who knows? It is a mystery but has been working!

Great new mantra. I think I will use it if you don't mind as over the last 2 months the scale have had more ups and downs than the rocky mountains. I know you will get there I watched you post losses all last month. Hang in there

I know just how you feel! But you ARE doing a great job!! Have you tried measuring yourself? I started doing that last month because the scale wasn't too friendly, and when I measured again this month, I had lost an inch! You can do it!!

I just love it Bobbie, I can't fail if I don't quit!!!! You've made such great progress and know you will continue to on your journey. Get that tape measure out, since I started uping my weights I've lost inches but the scale has not moved for me in a while, but I know once this weather breaks things will start moving again. Hsng in there girl, you have such a positive outlook and are such an inspiration!!!! Keep on sparkin'! emoticon emoticon

Yes, it can become hard! Besides making sure that you're getting ENOUGH calories to keep your body from going into ultra-efficiency mode, you should see some movement on the scales once you change up & intensify your exercise. I think your mantra is great--I would just add to it "I'll keep surprising my body!"

Sometimes the scale doesn't matter even though we are in a challenge to lose 5% weight. It is how you feel and how your clothes feel, how you can now breathe better and move better. These challenges are great to keep you focused on what is right for your body and make you more aware of different nutritional intake, like water and sodium. Maybe there should be a challenge about inches lost, because as you exercise more, muscle develops more and weighs more than fat, so the scale may not move, but your body still is! emoticon

That is such a great mantra! I've been struggling with a non-budging scale myself, and the urge to throw in the towel is great. So if you don't mind, I'm going to borrow your mantra for myself! Thanks!! emoticon

Sometimes you can do everything right and that scale doesn't move. And you're right - you cant fail if you don't quit. Keep it up and the scale will follow.

I like that: I can't fail if I don't quit. It is frustrating. I'm losing about half to three-quarters of a pound a week. That is slow, but since January 8, I've lost 10.5 pounds, and if I had quit, it would still be March 2 only I'd be at least 10.5 pounds heavier. I don't know how many calories Spark has suggested for you, but what they "gave" me was too low, and I bumped it up a couple of hundred. It was suggested I do 1200 to 1400 and I bumped myself up to 1500 to 1600. I refuse to spend my days being hungry. So maybe if you're not eating enough, your body is shutting down, hanging on to the weight you have. Just a thought.

Day 6 of 5% I didn't want to exercise

Thursday, February 24, 2011

Boy did I not want to sweat today. I put the tape in say I would just do a bit, even ten minutes was better than nothing. Well I pushed myself through 35 minutes of cardio and I feel so good that I did it. Today it was harder than it has been all week. Tomorrow is my off day as I have to be on the road for work.

Day 5 of 5%

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

What a beautiful day is outside my office window. The sun is shinning and glistening off the brilliant white snow. One could not ask for a better winter day. I try to appreciate it all even if in my heart I am so ready for Spring. Good news, I found someone by luck last night to plow my from parking area at home for just $10. Now I know that snow shoveling is great exercise but I had already 'sweated to the oldies' yesterday. so when the opportunity came along to get it plowed I jumped at it! It certainly made me much more thankful this morning when the temp here was 9 degrees. Today I go out for lunch with my friend but I already know I am getting the grilled chicken salad that brings lunch in at around 350 calories. I will exercise with her this afternoon. Life is good today. I hope it is good for you all as well.
