Trying to get back on track.

So I have been a bit of a slacker the last couple weeks with logging in and keeping track on the site. I have, however, still been tracking my weight and trying to be good. I guess I got discouraged about two weeks ago when my medication for my knee changed. I was put on a steroid to help control the pain and up went my weight. I know it was mostly retaining water, but still frustrating. Today I had another appointment and since the medication really wasn't working he decided to go with a cortisone shot. I am hopeful that it will help so I can get back to normal.
So I am up from where I was, but it is only a couple pounds. Maybe I will be able to move more now. After another appointment in 2 weeks my physical therapist wants me to ask about "work hardening". Which will get me ready to go back to work.

So I am making it a priority to get back in logging in everyday and logging my food and the little bit of exercise that I can do.

On a positive note, I can now go up and down the stairs correctly about half of the day now (I live in a 2 story house). That is a major improvement from 2 weeks ago.

    Hang in there, Chica.

One thing that helps me sometimes feel better about water retention is to look at the % fat estimate on my scale. It's hydration-dependent, so fluctuations are really due to water, not magic fat loss.

PT day 5

Today was physical therapy day 5 and I am so glad that it is the weekend. That means 2 days off from pt. Started with 2 new exercises today and they really show me how much muscle tone I have lost in my leg. That is extremely frustrating. I just keep thinking that soon I will be able to go up my stairs again and then get out on the trail for at least a walk. Running seems so far off right now. And I really miss my boat, the poor thing has been dry for a couple months now.

One benefit of this whole knee thing and not being able to walk for any real distance is the fact that I really can't get past the vegetable section of my grocery store. Not that I really buy anything anywhere else in the store, except for cheese. So today I grabbed a butternut squash and an acorn squash. Thinking of making butternut squash soup, warm and filling on a chilly day like today.

PT day 1

Today was my first day of physical therapy. I am 3 weeks and 6 days post op from my knee surgery and I am ready to get back walking again. My physical therapist was surprised that it is almost 4 weeks since my surgery and I am just starting my therapy. But that is ok, at least I am starting now.
I am lucky I was in good shape before the surgery so there is not as much muscle loss, even though there is loss of movement and flexibility at this point. I know that I am going to have to work to regain this loss, but I am willing to do the work. I can't wait to get out and run and boat again. I still have that new boat as my goal!
So today wasn't too bad even though I am crazy sore. I know my next appointment will just be the start of the work to get my knee back into shape.

    I'm surprised they didn't have you start PT sooner, too.

Surgeons. I swear my recent shoulder one would have preferred to just stick me in suspended animation for 6 weeks, rather than risk damaging his pretty stitches!

My reason for joining... I want a new boat :)

So I started this get healthy / weight loss journey about a year ago and I have found these last 10-15 lbs so hard to loose. So a friend of mine suggested I join when I told her of my plan to set a goal of a new kayak for myself.
I have been boating for about 3 years now and I have had the same kayak for almost all that time. I love my little red boat, but as I have dropped the weight the boat has become a bit big. And although I want to run bigger water, this isn't the boat for that. My goal is to get myself into a Jackson kids creeker. For my height, and my (future) weight that should be the boat that will take me on the bigger badder water.


Option 1 Jackson Sidekick... looking at a 2009 version.


Option 2 Jackson Little Hero...

There is still the pyranha Varun that I am looking at too... so many more choices now than there were in the past few years.

So I am starting with a fresh goal in mind. Starting with a little disadvantage as I am just 3 weeks post op from knee surgery. I know that setting this goal will give me the motivation I need to continue. So excited for when I can demo these boats. Oh and I really hope I can find a pink boat :)

I already HAVE my new little boat ("earned" it this summer) but I need to get back down to fighting trim to really USE it well.

(Aiming for less than 20% body fat and a weight around 155)
