Anyone have problems with Candida?

Friday, February 22, 2013

I've been struggling with yeast problems for a year. Even though I've started eating healthier, stopped drinking pop and sweet tea and losing fifteen pounds, I'm still having problems. Now I've decided to take strong action. I've been doing some research on the problem, and I'm getting ready to change my diet some more and take some supplements to help. But the diet part looks like it's going to be hard. I'm wondering if anyone in spark world has been through something similar and has any good ideas on what to eat or any particular supplement that helped. I need to stay away from grains, sugar and fruits. At least until I can get rid of this.

You are doing the right thing with cutting out the grains and sugars that feed yeast.
A good probiotic from the health store in the refridgerated section is best. It will cost a little more but good to get the balance of proper bacteria in your gut within healthy range after all the inbalances in the body created. Do your research on greek yogurt. There are some companies that add a powder substance to give it the texture, but it's not truly processed in the same manner of original greek yogurt and the benefits are lacking. Another marketing scam used for sales! I have heard it is not always the healthiest to run to doctor for a simple yeast infection. Our body is speaking to use for healing not a prescription. Medications are overused. Balance your body and you will heal.

I promise yogurt really helps! I am so blessed to work with an RN and when I talked to her about this problem she said that the Plain Greek yogurt (you can even add some fresh fruit) helps with this problem...it works! Probiotics is good too...Your doing great! and Congrats on your weightloss!

You should definitely incorporate more probiotics in your diet and I'd recommend checking your PH balance. Vagisil sells a kit that tests for yeast infections, and comes with PH testers, it costs around $20 at Wal-Mart.

Good luck! Great job losing 15 pounds!

yougurt is good. Also you can get keifer to drink, and although it may seem like a yeast problem since it doesn't really clear up it is more than likely bacterial. If the yogurt doesn't help within a week or two GO TO THE DOCTOR. It can turn into something serious.
Best of luck

I haven't been to the Dr. since I don't have insurance. And yeast problems are something I can treat on my own, if I really get serious about it. I think I will try a few small changes especially eating more yogurt (unsweetened). I eat yogurt everyday but not three servings and not unsweetned. I hadn't thought about eating more until I get rid of this. I love Greek yogurt.

Sorry, no suggestions, what does the doctor say?

Eat three, 4 oz yogurts a day. The yogurt should be plain, no added fruit or sugar. Try Chobani plain...I love the taste and can add my own real fruit. This will clear you up in no time and help prevent future outbreaks! No need to change the diet to extremes, just adding the yogurt and continuing to lose the excessive weight will help!

15 pounds down!

Go you!

Drum roll please!

Monday, February 18, 2013

I measured myself today and my monthly results are in! . I have lost a total of 4.25 inches. Two of those are off my waist. And I have lost a total of 14 pounds in the last five weeks. I'm also feeling a lot more energetic. Saturday night the kids 4h club had a skating party, and I actually got out and skated . When I got done I had skated for about an hour of the two hour skate. Then yesterday my whole family went to the park for a bike ride. We have a nice trail to ride on at our park. My husband doesn't have a bike so he walked. And when my daughter got tired of riding he let her play on the toys. He was excited and said he's going to get him a bike and bike rack for our SUV. I think he is really trying to be supportive.

Pizza for dinner

Thursday, February 14, 2013

Yeah my husband went out and got pizza at Papa Murphy's this evening. And no it wasn't the delight pizza. But I knew we would be having pizza this evening so I kept my calorie intake low today. And had salad with my pizza. I was proud of myself, I had only one slice of pizza. Then I looked up the nutrition info and discovered my one slice, though I thought it was small, was still almost two servings. But I still stayed within my calorie and fat range. Even though I lacked some fiber and my sodium intake was a tad high today. I'm still proud of myself. And tomorrow I will be right back on track. emoticon

Knowing the pizza slice was considered double serving is a bummer! have to say you did fantastic. I love pizza and garlic. I don't know if I would have stopped at one. You are making great steps toward the right direction! Don't give up when feeling discouraged by our loved ones. Remember we are comfortable with the familiar and old habits emoticon . He will adjust in his own time. Keep him in your Prayers!!!!
Happy Valentines Day

It takes a LOT of self-discipline to stop at only one piece, but you succeeded and stayed within your calorie and fat range..AND it's Valentine's Day! You did much better than I did. Congratulations to you!

Good for you! Pizza use to be one of my trigger foods, I could eat half of one without a problem, but since I have gone gluten free I can only dream about really good pizza. emoticon

Keeping my eye on the prize

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

This week has been rather discouraging. I did lose about half a pound. I've been so busy this last week that I couldn't really track my nutrition for three days. I didn't do anything horrible. But it wasn't as good as I would have liked either. I don't get a whole lot of support from my husband while he doesn't discourage me from changing. he isn't exactly encouraging. To understand how my husband is you know how they say he's a meat and potatoes kind of guy. My husband doesn't like potatoes. I've told him that we are making changes for everyone across the board not just me. That's the only way I can truly be successful. He says he's all for that. But when I cook new things he's not very optimistic. When he sees something new for dinner he makes weird and sometimes negative comments. So far he's liking most everything I fix. But it those times when he acts so put out that it really gets me discouraged. The other day I really felt like just throwing in the towel. Then I got to thinking what it would feel like to finally reach my weight loss goals and I decided I just couldn't give up. I may have a few bumps in the road. But I can't give up. I've got to do this for myself.

Sounds like you're on target. Hopefully, your husband will begin to see what you are trying to accomplish and join you on your journey.

Yes, you are doing this for you, not for anyone else. But do keep your focus, look at all the support you have been giving others here on Spark. Now they will give you the boost you need to keep moving forward.

Maybe you can go over the meal planning with your husband and offer choices like would you like chicken or fish tonight or if you can have him help you in the preparation of meals. And if he doesn't like it tell him to make his own.

You will have other days when you feel like throwing in the towel, but just remember it is just s bump in the road. Think of those days when you felt super happy about what you are doing for you,,,healthier, more energetic...You can do it! emoticon

Is it a sign from God?

Thursday, January 31, 2013

I've had YMCA membership for about eight years. But it's been about three or four years since I actually even worked out there. I know shame on me for paying and not going. But every time I think about canceling my membership, I just can't do. I just have to hold onto hope that I'll start going. I love going to the Y but I've found it hard to make the time. I have young children whom I homeschool. We tried going in the morning. But my oldest son ended up being the oldest kid in the child watch. And the worker constantly got onto him. He wasn't doing anything wrong. She was just overly concerned. Like he would be riding the riding toy and she would say don't go to fast you might hurt someone. Of course he never ever did. Also it was hard because we have to be careful to get the school work done. In the evening time I found myself to exhausted and busy with the evening responsibilities to be able to go consistently. Since starting all over, I've decided I don't want to be bound to gym and have been working out at home. But for the last two weeks, I've been thinking about going back to the Y. Not so that I could make it part of my exercise routine, but sort of as an extension. My kids are a little older now and I think it would be fun to take them. We could actually do some things together especially with my oldest child. But I've kind of been stalling. Well for one thing I thought, I don't even know where my membership card is. I didn't even try to look for it. Well my husband and I have been trying to go through some boxes that have been in the garage since we moved into our house three years ago. Low and behold while going through the box, guess what he finds. Ya, my membership card. So then I was wondering if it was a sign from God. Well I wasn't ready to jump at go to the Y just yet. But then I got to talking to a friend of mine from the homeschool co-op and come to find out her family just recently started going to the Y. She was like we need to go together sometimes. Her kids and my kids get along good too. So now I'm all excited. In the past when I went I was on my own alone. And now I have a friend to work out with. Even if we can only go once a week this makes me very happy.

That would be awesome. I say definitely give it a go. You might find something you really enjoy and it might become a "more than once a week" thing.

Have fun with it!

Awesome! It is a precious gift to get to go to the Y with your kid's. It is really not a affordable option for me now. No matter if I used it or not. Take advantage of being able to go. Your kids will love it emoticon
