It won't just be a break for me this time. I will be leaving the group. I have gained so much from the CAMO Crew. But right now it's important for me to focus on my job and work/life balance.

I'm going to continue my daily 45 minute dog walks with my husband and 35 minute runs 3 times per week.

I'm going to add strength training twice a week starting this week. I really notice the difference if I don't strength train.

I've started eating Paleo and I will commit to doing that all the time going forward. I think I have identified my food intolerances and feel that Paleo eating will make me feel better and help me lose weight.

I will miss BLC and CAMO, but I am feeling good about where I am right now.

BLC Challenge 1/2 Way Mark

I haven't accomplished a lot, but I haven't backslid either.

1. Staying in Calorie Range - this continues to be the ideal. I think the basis has to be focusing on healthy food choices.

2. Water - I've been much, much better with this.

3. Running - Fascitis has me off track, but I should be slowly easing back this week.

4. Strength Training - Oops. Definitely need to get back on track here.

I'm getting okay with a goal of 1/2 pound a week instead of 2 pounds. I think it's the lifestyle changes/habits that I need to focus on.

I'm a Runner

The BLC 20 challenge for the weekend included blogging about a success on my Spark journey. I think the biggest change for me is becoming a runner.

Almost 3 years ago I did a couch to 5K program and completed a 5K race and then a Half Marathon, doing a run/walk. Somehow I still didn't feel like a runner.

Then I took a break from running and broke my arm by trippiing when I was out walking. I realized that if I could break my arm just walking, then I might as well run. I couldn't do much more damage running. So, back I went to the running group and completed the same Half I had done before, but running the whole way--however slowly. But I still didn't feel like a true runner.

I continued with the running group. I only joined them on the long runs on Saturdays, because I live a distance away from most of the runs. The group re-grouped and there was a lot more focus on longer runs. But I decided that my goal is really to be able to go out and run 3 miles on any given day and not feel like it is an overwhelming effort, that I would still aim for just 3 miles on my Saturday runs.

Then, I joined a gym with a treadmill, loaded Jeff Galloway's Easy 5K app to my iPhone, downloaded music to the app, and began running twice a week on my own on the treadmill. I decided that run/walk intervals work just fine for my longterm goals.

All of the pieces came together. I really enjoyed listening to music when I ran. I ran longer and faster. And, when others went on for longer distances on Saturday mornings, I was able to put my earbuds in and happily run on my own. My form has improved. I'm staying upright and not leaning too far forward or hunching my shoulders. And, my speed is picking up.

I've got a persistent case of fascitis, but that's okay. I'm taking it easy and letting it heal. And, I can't wait to get back to running! I kept waiting for that runner's high. It just happened to take me three years.

I'm a runner!

    That question of who is a real runner is really a big one. I'm sure there are people who would define me as not a real runner. I don't really care. I run/walk and am healthier and more fit than ever before, even if I'm not a real runner.

Music! I love running to music. I had never done it until a few months ago when I discovered Galloway's 5K training app that I could download music to. I've really enjoyed finding great music to listen to and get me energized.

    I love moving to music and it makes my runs fantastic too. I even listen to some great podcasts when out on my long runs!

One of my biggest motivations has been my dog. He really needs to be walked every morning. So, I may not make it to the gym, but I always walk the dog.

    Want to loan your dog out for a month or so?? My exercise of choice is walking and I can usually manage to put two little grandbabies in the double stroller at least a couple of times a week and get in a decent walk. Now I'm thinking of just pushing the stroller without the babies and making it more often - would that look too stupid? Or would it be a smart move? Nobody would see me because I live in a farming area with lots of backroads. Oh here's an 'after-thought' - I can always take a garbage bag along with the stroller and clean up the roadside as I exercise!!

Still, if you'd want to loan out Memphis - let me know!
