One Step at a Time

The "Aha" moment of the day came after what I originally thought was a meager 1st week weight loss. Harsh words echoed in my head, "it's only 1.5 pounds, I can lose that in an hour! Get moving, you used to put in over 200 miles in a week on a bike AND work out at the gym!"

BUT THEN...after reading the fitness motivation piece for this week, I remembered, our journey, our race, starts with "one small step at a time."

I'm not training for competitions anymore and the "miracle of menopause" is starting so the fact is...the body chemistry is changing. YAHOO! But you know...anyone who has every achieved even the smallest success, whether it's a good grade on a paper, winning an award or a competition will tell you, they didn't just roll out of bed and "Poof, it happened." It took HARD WORK, DEDICATION AND BELIEVING YOU CAN DO IT!

I'm going to challenge myself just a little this next week. Work out one extra day, park a little further away and throw in stairs, change an eating habit. It may take time, there may be weeks when I want to hurl the scale into the river, but I know that success is on the horizon!

Who knows, I may start competing again!

    Absolutely, one step at a time! I think we all get frustrated when getting back on the wagon, with I used to do this, and time was I could do that, and it's frustrating to think that we have to start small again. But starting small is the best way to succeed, after all studies show the slower you lose weight the easier it is to keep it off.

If you catch yourself being negative about your little achievements (and 1.5 pounds IS an achievement) ask yourself what you would say to a friend if they hadn't reached their weekly goal. Would you tell them that they could "lose that in an hour" or would you tell them what they have done is great and to keep it up?

I like even more, how you set out some plans to help you
effect a change on your scale reading. I sure hope your
plans work!

Endorphin Junkies

Tried Pilates for the 1st time today...wow, it's great! Thought I had a decent core, but boy was I in for a surprise. Have to confess, have a hip that is making my range of motion challenging (osteo-arthritis).

For those of us Endorphin junkies, the most important advice have to give is "STRETCH, STRETCH, STRETCH."

It is probably the most critical thing you can do. Have to counter the bunching up of muscles with cardio and weight lifting with trying to increase your flexibility. That's probably why they say it's important to keep moving as you get older...if you sit still too long rigamortis sets in! LOL...

Elyptical at 5:30am tomorrow per the norm...nice to get it in early. Hang in there everyone, even if you move 10 minutes a day, taking a walk around your office building or down your street, at least you did it!

    "If you sit still too logn rigamortis sets in" That is hilarious! But too true emoticon Right? I loved the pilates class offereed at P.C.C. it was tough but I owe the only triceps I have to that class.

Get Ready, Set...GO!

Well..today is my official starting day for the program. I've been tracking and exercising, but bought a nice scale this weekend...uggh..it's a great wake up. Finding Spark People was a wonderful. Lost 75 pounds with that other big organization (WW) over 20 years ago, but upon moving to Oregon 4 years ago, gained 35 pounds! YIKES! It seems the organization and I recently had a difference of opinion. I felt that current members should not be charged an initiation fee for changing to online only, they disagreed. SO....here I am.

We are all in this together, if anyone needs a good word or a listening ear...drop me a line.
